Winter Blues

With the onset of Autumn/Winter due just wondered if ASFC will be expanding their merchandise range to possbly include fleece jacets, bench jackets or sweat shirts to help keep us warm on the terraces?:)

Re: Winter Blues

As they didn't bother to expand their merchandise range to include t-shirts in the summer, I very much doubt it.

That's a pity given all the talk of people wearing their shirts during the Summer being the best form of advertising they can have, Would have been nice to continue the theme through the rest of the year maybe a missed oppurtunity?
Particulary when you look around the Surridge sponsored link on the Fishy site and see what other clubs are offering!

Re: Winter Blues

Mmm the clothing merchandise is a lot to be desired, yet i dont think Eric was overly impressed about he OSC's merchandise competing with the clubs - yet 'stanleys' offer a bit more variation & arm coverage hehehe, having looked in our neighbouring club shop - they cater on a broader scale on clothing - even as far as youth clothing thats more street than sports style, like fleeces in other colours & casuals with a little club logo appealing to all ages even more so with youth clothing. I think the club shop lacks varaition & room with limiting itself to just the basic norm club shop rather than making its merchandise more attractive - erm least OSc stuff branched that bit further than the club hence it did well plus was competetive in pricing too making it affordable - shame club cant take the hint that merchandising is a big business & people want more than the club tshirt & mugs with reasonable prices

Btw could do with some fleeces shame the club dont have any lol

Re: Winter Blues

It's been suggested on here that people don't go to the games because the ticket price is too much. If thats the case I can't see enough people forking out for jackets etc which will meet minimum order requirements.

Was it not done when we were in the lower leagues?
Spin round the Surridge site and look at the ranges that are offered for other clubs (not just football) !:)

Afarid I don't know the historical situation, merely playing devils advocate. :)

Re: Winter Blues

I accept that potential sales must justify the production costs for any item. But the present range of club merchandise seems ridiculously limited. Just look at the Stanley store on t'fishy site - no t-shirts, no polo shirts, basic lines that the club should surely be offering.

As for Eric's attitude to OSC merchandise, I find this puzzling. As the club don't sell t-shirts, umbrellas etc, the OSC are hardly diverting sales from the club's own lines. Perhaps more importantly, these items are raising the profile of the club in the area, so surely he should be pleased that the OSC have taken this initiative?

Re: Winter Blues

Wonder if someone put the suggestion to Lee at clubshop about looking for more warmer wear with surridge as they sponsor the kit:rolleyes:

Very true Wynonie - there is hardly owt on there, as for osc it was brought up to iron out once & for all that nobody was stepping on club toes & what u said was clarified, maybe eric could see this as test pilot for broadening out with merchandise - hopefully:D but there does need to be a bit more choice if he wants fans to put coffiers in the clubshop:D

Maybe Eric is thinking more of actual disposable income than product range.

Perhaps he could be/ have been more in liason with the OSC whereby they sold stuff in the shop with split profits. That way the club is in a win win situation given that OSC money goes back in to the club anyway.

As an aside most official football club merchandise is overpriced anyway, regardless of who you support :(

Part of my job as a Purchaser is to source workwear:
The rules are simple
no minimum order quantities
most competitive price
best quality
where possible use local suppliers:)

With xmas coming up soon would be a good opportunity to look into their merchandising for prospective present buying for stanley family or friends:D

Re: Winter Blues

no offence made to the OSC, but i have not seen anyone else but OSC members wearing their merchandise, so maybe this wasent as big a hit as wished???? Maybe why the club are not looking to put lots of cash into merchandising when its sitting on the shelfs in stock

dont know for sure but that my current view on it :)

maccawozzagod 29-09-2007 07:30

Re: Winter Blues

you are partially right John, we did sell stuff at the Carnival that OSC and public bought into and we have sold a few t shirts to others as well. But beyond that there was only OSC meetings to sell at as we couldn't sell in the Crown, and I aint selling it out of the back of my car every week.

But since then we have now been allowed to sell from the Crown, and we may be putting it into the club shop. It has been disappointing really as a lot of people expressed an interest for things (such as umbrellas) and then nobody wanted them when they were available. This year we have bigger fish to fry than putting a lot of energy into the range so it will back burner for a while, but I believe an error was made by not instantly expanding the number of products we did as soon as we made some money, it was discussed early on as the right thing to do and then we didn't.

If anybody wants me to look at fleeces etc then post it on here, ring me or PM me and I will sort some prices out. Don't what we'd put on em though (design wise)

I wouldn't have thought so really as you can order single items at bulk prices, and print/embroidery runs are cheap enough.

To get carriage paid on ordered items it would usually have to be an order over £250 (most places) put failing that delivery tends to be around £10, so ten items delivered means an extra £1 per item on the cost, and you can live with that. Sure your percentage is down, but you ain't gotta keep the large stocks on the shelf.

I think to be fair to the Club the stock only arrived late Friday and with it being Matchday yesterday and all that that entails probably not had a chance yet to get them online

So here we are six days later and they've still not be added to the store. Not even an announcement about them on the news section, either. How do they expect to sell them if they're not advertised?

I have only ever had one reply to an email I have sent to the club (or shop) and that took nearly 12 weeks to arrive from the date of me sending it.

The thing is, things never seem to get any better do they? I find it all so frustrating!

Your lucky. I've never yet had a reply to any of the emails I've sent to the club. And that's going back about 18 months. Still, the merchandise is in the shop, fleeces look good and I'm looking forward to Christmas!

The point is, those of us who don't go in the shop or are in distant parts, only know about them because StanleyMad told us. The club should be promoting their own merchandise to all and sundry. After all, they are the ones who always tell us that Stanley merchandise sells well all over the world!

Thanks to whoever went in the shop today and mentioned that replies to e-mails where needed as Lee has now found my e-mails and answered my query, a bit of a worry was the e-mails had gone straight to his junk mail folder (am I that bad), cheers Lee for the reply if you read this.:)
