Old Stanley Pictures

Came accross these old Stanley pictures from early 70's. I've no idea who the opposition is and don't recognise any of the players, except possibly John Nuttall in one of them. Anybody got any ideas?

Re: Old Stanley Pictures
Looking as best I can (would love to see the orginals with a magnfying glass) here goes:
Picture 1 Scorer with head band, the legenary "Haggis" Stnley's record scorer David Hargreaves. Keeper possible John Walsh, later to play for Stanley after Micky Finn's injury Picture 2 Jack Brydon, with Simon Clarke in the background Picture 3 Players too far away. Number 11 in that time was Dave McDowell, and I would guess Dave Baron on the edge of the box Picture 4 Ian Warburton for sure. The game would be a late season mdweek game, Nelson possibly. Sorry IMHO, not the John Nuttall era, late 70's at a guess:) What is good for me is the brickyard; when did that close, and why did the club not have the foresight to build the infrastructure before the new houses came!! ;) Have you got more of these?? Are they available for the exhibition?? |
Re: Old Stanley Pictures
Be brilliant if you wouldn't mind loaning them for the exhibition & how did you find them, is there a story behind who took them at the time??
Really intersting Melonhigh:thumbsup: |
Re: Old Stanley Pictures
What great pics (although the first one is the wrong way round). Really brings back some memories of standing on the Whinney Hill side in wind, rain and snow. When you see shots like this, it reminds you in a very graphic way just how far we've come over the years.

Re: Old Stanley Pictures
Speaking of old pics, some theiving gits went into the Bay Horse in Baxenden on Saturday on their way to the Bury match and stole one of the Stanley pictures from the wall of the pool room. According to the landlord, the suspected reprebates were gentlemen in their 50s.
Stunts like this we could do without. |

OK, Here's the first picture the right way round. Probably right about them being late seventies. Pictures are available for exhibition if needed, either prints or original slides. Maybe someone with more knowledge, skill and patience than me could enhance them, enlarge them? They are hardly Kipax standard are they? I did take them and I should have more somewhere, just a matter of finding them.
