The Jack Brydon Trophy.

in 1977 former stanley player , Jack Brydon, missed out on his testimonial match due to a fallout with our current chairman Mr. Eric Whalley, it was then agreed that at the end of every season the leading goal scorer would be awarded the `Jack brydon` trophy, just wondering if anyone remembers it or knows what ever happened to it?

Re: The Jack Brydon Trophy.

why would a fallout with Eric lead to him missing his testimonial?

Re: The Jack Brydon Trophy.

eric fell out with jack brydon over a sending off (although i don`t think they were ever best pals) the club was struggling at the time (for a change) and when he was offered a game against Blackburn or Burnley Jack jumped at the chance and said all he money made could go back into the club, however eric dragged his heels and eventually due to scheduling problems jack was offered a game against accrington combination snd told eric to shove it..........it was finally agreed that the top goalscorer trophy would be named after him.

Re: The Jack Brydon Trophy.

but Eric had nowt to do with Stanley during th eseventies! In the mid eighties he became manager (twice) and then in the nineties (95) became chairman. Would it not have been John Prescott in the seventies?

Re: The Jack Brydon Trophy.

Eric became manager of Accrington Stanley at the beginning of the 1986/87 season as before that he was manager of Clitheroe
The late John Prescott was the Chairman during the Seventies
Jack Brydon played for Stanley from 1975/76 to 1978/79 playing 129 games so why would he have a Testimonial anyway ?

Re: The Jack Brydon Trophy.

Jack Brydon was sent off against Clitheroe in the 1970`s who were managed at the time by Eric, He called him a Fat Ba*tard!, he then got a knee injury and was forced to retire hence it was decided he would have a testimonial.

apart from picking holes in my tale, (which i admittedly got mixed up a bit) i presume nobody can answer my original question then?

Re: The Jack Brydon Trophy.

But the 'tale' makes no sense, so the question is unanswerable.

I really can't imagine my Dad denying a player a testimonial, but we'll never know now, will we?
