car convoy

Morecambe away on the 6th November

I'll be driving and will be trying to fill up my car, got at least four people interested who don't normally go away, anybody else driving and can set off from Oaklea/Crown area?

Let's see how many non-away fans we can take to this one

Jase what time you getting there as if i can make it early enough i`ll gladly lend a hand.

is this considered our biggest local derby this season?

I have been telling the 'stanleys muy second team' mates of mine about this one and am trying to get at least 2 car loads, hopefully more.

The tuesday night is the problem.

How further in time is it up the M6 from where you turn off onto the m65 for Accy?

Macca & Friends,

Will try to find out some local information at weekend.

However when the reserves went up to Morecambe recently they too found the Lancaster/ Morecambe bit a nightmare.

Will keep you informed, but suggest you leave a little more time as I believe parking is iffy at Morecambe as well:)

As this will be my first trip to Morcambe (To the ground that is) i was going to ask about parking and wheres the best place.

You park in the away fans car park fella , no probs at all.....

Re: car convoy

Macca, Willie and friends,

Did a run to Morecambe yesterday; roadworks on M6 with cameras (down to 50mph). 40 mins to the outskirts of Lancaster. Then the problems! 30 mins to do the last couple of miles, and that was Saturday lunchtime.

Once through the one way system the 3 lane road goes to 1, great planning!!

The official car park is tiny, £3 for cars, £5 for minibuses. Loads of street parking, no sign of cones or traffic wardens.

And to confirm the goods news, Mr Twiss straight red for violent conduct ( 3 match ban) and their back four will love playing against Mullers, Roscoe, Craney and Leighton. Milk turns quicker!!!:)

Lancaster can be avoided by coming off at the Carnforth junction and coming into Morecambe via Hest Bank along the Promenade. A few extra miles but not as frustrating as Lancaster City Centre.

Christies Child 03-11-2007 11:07

Re: car convoy

Suggest all you guys come off at the Carnforth junction and then travel to Morecambe from that side. Lancaster can be a nightmare at around 6-6.45 after that not too bad.

Anyhow as there will only be a few coming up if your home gates are a guide maybe Lancaster is OK after all.

Better get a few things clear before there's any hassle on tuesday. There's a car park, £3 for cars. It might appear to be designated for away fans but in fact the "Away Supporters" sign that points into it is directing supporters to the away turnstiles. It is not a free car park and hasn't been for a few years.

If you want to avoid lancaster, go to J35 Carnforth and drive back to morecambe. Lancaster clear at 7pm? Dream on.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

i know 7.45 is a good time for most of the fans, but its a nightmare for me and most of my mates.

Getting from Stoke/Crewe upto Morecambe is going to be a real battle (just getting past Junction 21 is a slog).

There was 14 of thus going up, but I think we are down to 6 now as people can not get there from work in time.

Just wanted to have a rant.

i'd seen these a little earlier, the first one I expected no less and if I could be bothered trawling other boards I'd probably quote them in the same manner!

as for the second one I had asked for a copy of the menu at the Morecambe end and if it was any different then a complaint could go in and Morecambe would be fined, but as fas as I can gather the two food outlets are run separately. Morecambe take care of the home fans as they know roughly how many they can expect week in week out. The away fans are tendered out - good decision methinks as that gets a guaranteed return no matter how many or few turn up. Maybe something we could look at?

What about the roadworks at Bolton-le-Sands, though? Terrible delays there a couple of weeks ago!

Gnasher 06-11-2007 10:44

Re: car convoy

What about the roadworks at Bolton-le-Sands, though? Terrible delays there a couple of weeks ago!

You'll need the local's bypass then. This assumes you are coming North towards Carnforth. Come off the motorway and take the 3rd exit - 1st takes you down to the A6 & Carnforth, 2nd back on the M6 and 3rd you go towards another road that drops into carnforth. Turn right at the end of that (slip)road towards carnforth. As soon as you have gone over the motorway, take the next left, probably signed Nether Kellet. Go to the end of that road, about 2 miles.

At the end, turn right, could be signed Bolton-Le-Sands. Go to the end of that road, you're in Bolton-Le-Sands beyond the road works. Take a left which takes you to the A6. A sharp right then left at the lights and you're on your way to morecambe.

It avoids both Carnforth and the temporary lights at bolton-le-sands.

Sounds like you are all going to have serious traffic problems tonight, so using my local knowledge I have found a quicker route.

On leaving the Oaklea, turn right and join the M65 at the Dunkenhalgh, take the Colne signs. Follow the M65 until J10 and on leaving the motorway follow the signs that say Football.

Easy done in 20 minutes and you can sit down when you get there :D:p

I suggest downloading google earth, you can see the roads I've described very clearly.

There's also another way turning left instead of right at J34 into lancaster. Not easy to describe and not a chance with satnav as none of them know the old railway bridge is open to cars.
