Stanley attacking the Clayton End second half. Isn't that where they scored 3 last match ?

Not sure there will be an armistice when she gets home, so far I've predicted the correct score

Sorry - had to leave - had visitors (the b******s). The answers are probably Clayton end, No and No. Glad to be so helpful.

Re: vs Notts County

Just got back from the game. We we really poor today and didn't create much untill the last 20 minutes. Whalley should have been brought off much sooner - he had a shocker today. I wasn't impressed with Branch either. Good to see Craney back. Hopefully we will be MUCH better for the Morecambe game.

SamF 03-11-2007 16:34

Re: vs Notts County

Whalley shouldn't be allowed to wear a stanley shirt again, would have been better with 10 men.

Branch was terrible- Richardson wasn't even on the bench, can't get my head around Coley sometimes.

Cav unusually poor, getting caught on the ball way too often losing possession several times.

Roberts gifted their first goal.

You know its a bad day when Rocky is the best defender wearing a red shirt.

Harris played average, lot of work put in, not *much* to show for it but compared to the rest he had a good game.

Proctor and Craney struggled to make an impact, D'sane and Mullin effectively counteracted by the County defence all the way through the game.

ALL this being said, a draw would have been the correct result, they handled the ball in the area twice, referee waved it away both times, idiot.

Good summary SAM F, totally agree with all your points. Branch and Whalley must be dropped for the Morecambe game. I'm afraid we have to follow Stanley away to get our thrills these days. How we are ever going to build up home support at this rate I don't know. Hundreds just turned round and walked out when the second goal went in, and they are our core support!!

You are not alone on that. It annoys me the way changes are only made in the last 10 minutes or so when in all fairness it is too late.
A draw would have been the correct result.

This is one point of the summary I take issue with. Williams was most certainly not the best defender (nor was he the worst), Mark Roberts was and has been our best defender all season.

We where shocking its as simple as that.

Whalley very poor.

How the hell robbie can keep webb out of the team is beyond me.

poor all around very disappointed.

we will get buried at Morcambe and off hudds next weekend if that carries on

I will never call for Coleys head as nobody else could the fantastic job that he does with what he has at his disposal (money, players etc).

But his substitutions or lack of them are dire.

1-0 down at home against a team no better than us and no more fired up. 5 minutes left he makes the first sub, they then go two nil. We should have had all three on in the 75th min at the latest.

I aint been Evils biggest fan lately but thhe game today cried out for an up and at em type. He would have made a difference

It was actually impossible for us to get a result today.
You cannot play 4-4-2 with 3 central midfield players on the pitch!!
Very disappointed with Mr Coleman & Mr Bell I am.

Poor team selection.
An inability to overcome Notts County's high tempo game in the first half.
Branch was poor all game.
Whalley has alot going for him except an ability to cross - surely in training he works on it? It has not improved and looked as bad as ever today.
I thought Proctor was shocking today, 1st half the team carried him, second half his positional play was abysmal.
Notts County would have had alot more of a game with McEvilly today - the forward line was crying out for a 'bruiser' up front, as the ref didnt want to give many fouls for physical play.

The subs where poor, I really dont understand why coleman would bring Miles on over Brown or Evil
Miles IS NOT alot of things, on that long list is work horse and impact player.

1-0 down at home against a team no better than us and no more fired up. 5 minutes left he makes the first sub, they then go two nil. We should have had all three on in the 75th min at the latest.

It was excruciating waiting for the subs to be made today. Blindingly obvious that we needed a lift earlier on, but what we got was too little , too late. What is the point of having subs straining on the leash when we're not getting anywhere 0-1 down? Surely that's what a squad if for, or have I missed something?

Thats something that really pees me off, that must make the team feel awful (even though they were today ) they want their heads tattooing then people know who they are, and at the next game let them in 10 mins late if they don't like watching the full 90 mins  :D

your wrong.
that performance was poor and the subsititutions and lack of activity on the bench made it clear 2-0 was how it would stay - to leave with 3 mins to go is the correct way.

The most dissapointing thing about today, and its the same with the Wrexham and Bury game - the opposition where rubbish.

Suppose oit may be a personal thing, 2 - 0 down or 10 - 0 down I won't go till the final whistle blows, and about showing the team what I think if thats why some go early I have the choice to applaud them or just walk out.

Anyway, fishy site league table updated, just dropped down a place but Morecambe could go above us on Tuesday if we play like we did today

Well that and I've seen too many goals scored in the last few mins, especially at Stanley :D

Re: vs Notts County

I'd go along with much of what has been said in this thread. Simply not good enough.

Branch - Past it. He may have the experience but the legs have gone.

Whalley - Seems to make a habit of running down a blind alley and his crossing is woeful.

Cavanagh - Caught in possesion far too many times. Got forward late on but that lead to him being dragged out of position. Their second goal typical example.

Williams & Roberts - Left it to each other to clear the ball for their first. Of the two, the one to give way for Webb would be Williams- He seems to be making at least a couple of mistakes a game, his passing totally lacks any thought or vision. One dimensional lump forward seems to be his favoured pass.

I'd agree with what was posted earlier-why have three central midfielders in the side if you're supposedly playing 4-4-2 ?? Or was Craney sitting in behind the front 2 and we were playing a 4-3-3??

Effort in the second half was much better. However as others have stated before-Why did Coleman not make the changes when the game was crying out for him to do so. And when the change came, it didn't really change anything.Surely the more positive move would have been to take Branch off and put Evil on, swap Whalley for McGivern (not Miles) and go 3 at the back and push an extra man forward ?? And this should have been done after 65-70 mins so that the change had time to make an impact.

All in all, it's going to have to be a big improvement on today's display IF we're to take anything away from Christie Park on Tuesday. And I,like many others will be extremely disappointed if Coleman doesn't make changes. The underachievers(and we all know who they are,or have an opinion on them) need to get the message. We can't afford to carry passengers. The only answer is to drop those concerned and provide the challenge to those replacing them to stake their claim for a regular starting berth.

Simply put - MUST DO BETTER

today wasnt as bad as we think we still made chances in the second half but what is it with certain players who dont put the effort in like 10 mins from time they couldnt be bothered with chasing the ball.they should put 100% in for 90 minutes we as supporters ask for that and we do count as we pay their wages they are living a dream .i would love to play profesional football and would play like every game as it was my last but too many times they just go through the motions ..i think its to do with todays society full of apathy.the i cant be bothered symptom:mad:

I think it is just a case that we have been found out
Route one dosn't work, going back to front dosn't work
Get it down and play it!!
Absolutely woeful yesterday, hardly any endevour, no spark
Notts County were no World Beaters but fair play to them, they didn't shut up shop they just played neat football and got on with it and held on to possesion which is what Stanley have got to learn to do
far to many loose passes goes forward comes straight back
Substitutions have to agree came far to late 15-20 minutes to go was the ideal time to change it around
But Hey-Ho nice trip to the seaside to look forward too!:)

carpon 04-11-2007 03:23

Re: vs Notts County

It's not a case of being found out. Our tactics and formations have long been common knowledge. Every opposition manager knows that as things stand Mullin is the target man, D'Sane has the pace. They also know where the weaknesses lie,who the culprits are,how to play them.Away from home(up to press),we're a different kettle of fish.

What makes me worry- an ordinary team took another 3 points. We were 2-0 up against another ordinary team, let it slip, went back in front and hung on to win the game (bottom of league hammered them 5-0 today). I like many others, was at Gigg Lane. 1-0 up,should have been 3, end up losing a game we should have won comfortably.

Wrexham...... Total lack of effort.

We may have the cushion now. How long can this side carry passengers???

Forget the non-sensical talk of Play offs !!! REALITY BITES. !!

For my mind, success is avoiding relegation back to the Conference.

I, like many others am P****d off with what transpired against Notts County, but what worries me more is the lack of switches, change of tactics, change of personell.

If,after the Notts Co. result, no changes are made (injuries apart) we turn up at Morecambe with nigh on the same line up, then I'm going to start worrying, worrying about another long, hard season of struggle.

For my mind...... Whalley out- McGivern in, Williams out-Webb in,Branch out-Edwards in.

He and Jimmy Bell have done a fantastic job for the club, but I have felt for some time that League 2 is possibly one step too far for their skills. I have said this in previous threads.

At one time I doubted the words of others about Coley having favourites, but the evidence of the last year suggests that he does. His approach to substitutions is very odd indeed - they are too little, too late, and too often lacking tactical sense. Contrast his approach with that of, for example, Mourinho who was never afraid to make a tactical switch even during the first half, or Allardyce who yesterday substituted Cacapa early in the match because he was clearly being outplayed. As has been said in another thread, we now have a good squad, but it is not being used to its potential.

I'm coming north for the Morecambe game and again for the cup tie. I hope for better things.

Have to agree with you on this one KSH, I know they have paid their money and it's their choice if they want to desert early but I was disgusted with the number of people who did that yesterday - who are we turning into - Blackburn Rovers!

2 or 3 Stanley players had stinkers yesterday, but on the whole we were undone by the usual lack of discipline in defence. In my opinion that was the difference between the 2 sides.

True, but how many times has Coley moaned that the defence has let us down and said that changes would be made and yet nothing is done about it, it's his job to instill discipline & if the players aren't doing as they're told to do something about it He has to take his share of the blame for yesterday's performance.

Tin Monkey 04-11-2007 11:56

Re: vs Notts County

I've lost count of the number of times I've said this, but yesterday was the same old story.

We always struggle against teams that sit deep and close us down quickly. It was the same against Wrexham and numerous other games in the past (going back a number of seasons).

When we play with 3 central midfield players and one ineffective wide man, the writing was already on the wall.

All credit for the way Notts County closed us down, packed the midfield and hit us on the break. The tactics worked and we did nothing to change the way we played to counter their style.

as far as walking out early is concerned - I did.

it was either stay and start really telling one or two people what I thought of em or walk. The net was still rippling when I set off.

I stand behind the goals and sing my heart out for 90 minutes trying to get one percent extra effort out of the lads, but that was too much to hope for yesterday. Why should I stay and watch more of that crap?

And as I was leaving some prick said to his mate "look at all these c"£$s leaving early" well done that man - you nearly became the first man to get thrown over the back wall in about six years. If I hear it again you will be.

i do think coleman has his favourites.

Only Branch beat Proctor to the title of the worst performance.
Branch will be dropped due to his fitness, Proctor will never be dropped by Coley -its a shame as it would do proctor the world of good after that performance.

I seem to recall somebody on complaining that a local championship manager should stop being allowed in to the FES because he was after Proctor. Thanks for confirming my response to that when I read it :D

I stayed till the end [much to no improvement] & the chants that was hurled at those leaving early in their droves was a bit pathetic to say the least - really good attitude to have at supporters that turned up expecting a match of 2 teams 2 halves, YET obviously stanley hadnt woke up properly or was only there in appearance only - getting heckled for leaving - mmmm really good advert them coming back isn't it - yet wonder why gates become a contentious subject neither helped by the hecklers nor the teams performance:rolleyes:

Re: vs Notts County

I didn't hear any chanting at the leavers cos I was already going, I only heard the odd comment and as I said I nearly bit ..... but if there was any chanting then some people need to have a long hard look at themselves.

We'll never attract fairweather fans when we slag them off, if they are not fairweather fans then they deserve better. People leave early for many different reasons and it happens at every ground in the country.

90 minute fans are no better than 85 minute fans
singing fans are no better than non-singing fans
derogatory comment fans are no better than gutter filth.

We all salute the team when they are doing well and we should all be able to criticise when things aint so good. So what if Tom Dick and Harry were all shouting about how good we were when we destroyed Bradford, they should also be allowed to criticise individuals or the team when they need to buck up. Somewhere on this thread if said about how does it make the team feel when they see all the fans leaving early? who cares? Maybe they should think about how we feel turning up and watching dross!

Fans have feelings too and seems as though we even take ourselves for granted some times. If its wrong we should say so, when its right we definitely do!

Totally agree...Coley has asked for maximum support and backing for the team. He got it on Saturday with more people and more noise on the Clayton End. The trouble is that certain players seem like they couldn't care less. Time for the big shake-up that he's always threatening!
