Re: Another prodigal son to return?
Can you imagine the fear we would put into opposition defences should we have both Toddy and Rory running the wings?!
Unfortunatley tho, I dont see Him returning to The FES :(.............tho I would be happy to be proved wrong :D |
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
Ohh wouldn't that be interesting ! I will try to winkle out the truth for all us die hard Rory fans on here ! ( All 3 of us !)

I loved Rory when he was with us, was just a bit put off by some of his antics at Halifax, but I would have him back in the blink of an eye if I thought he could do a job for us, but not sure if he could?? But I am prepared to admit I am wrong!! |
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
Wouldn't mind betting that Rory asked to be released the minute big thug McEvilly turned up at Rochdale - those two have got quite a history! He must've wondered what he'd done to get landed with him again :)
I for one would love to see him back but am resigned to the fact that unfortunately it's not gonna happen (then again Eric is giving free beer away this weekend - who'd have thought that would ever happen :) ) |
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
He did well for us off the bench this season and would be a decent signing, we are carrying a large squad though and needed to cut down.
Although Hill has revealed in the Rochdale Observer that we are in discussions over a permanent deal for Evil which is good news for both parties. |
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
Anyone got a link to the Rochdale forum? I can't find it. Ta

Re: Another prodigal son to return?
It's just been on Sky Sports News that Prendergast has been released by Dale. Has the prospect of getting Roberts back on loan gone "dead in the water" so to speak?? Would Coleman see the return of Prendergast as a viable alternative ?? To think that IF either Prendergast or Roberts returned, even on short term deals, that Coleman would have the chance to play two out and out wide men on either flank (Ala Prendergast or Roberts to play on the left with Toddy on the right) With Roscoe's pace and Mullin's aerial ability complemented with wide men who are proven to provide quality service wouldn't that just whet the appetite !!:D

Re: Another prodigal son to return?
Rory appears to be a free agent at the end of his Dale contract. Dale will not be using him in any McEvilly deal - he'll no longer be their player.
Does any one know if he's related to Mick Prendergast the legendary Sheffield Wednesday player from the same area of South Yorkshire? |
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
no thanks.
He had one excellent followed by two bads ones more often than not. He tried and failed at Blackpool and followed that up with not being good enough for Halifax to retain on loan, followed by not being good enough for the Rochdale team. In his favour though is that Coley does seem to get the best out of mediocre players and he does have a sweet left foot and it is a problem position. For me (and Eric) it would depend how greedy he has become - but I'd rather see Bobby Grant get a go on the left, or even, horror of horrors, let Whalley have a few games to see if he get his confidence back. |
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
i like whalley i think hes a good player, ok some of the time he loses the ball, but he runs none stop at the defenders and can put in some good crosses, he should be played more often than he is!
|
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
it bugs me that people slag Whalley off. Last season he did well as an impact player but struggled a little in full games. This year you maybe think its time for him to get a run but NO. He gets odd cameos here and there but is expected to perform like a seasoned and experienced pro. The lad would be better of goin on loan and getting some experience than playing for ten minutes and getting heckled for eight!

He was a raw talent when we got him, be great to see the club help develop him. On the other hand, grafting Rory's left peg on him would give us some winger. :) (That's probably the only bit of Rory I'd like to see back, but like HR said,"If he could do a job".) |

Rory was signed for Blackpool by Colin hendry who was then replaced within a couple of months by Simon Grayson who never gave Rory a chance. Halifax wanted to keep him on loan but couldn't afford to, due to blackpool wanting them to pay a higher percentage of his wages than in the original loan spell. And as for Rochdale he is believed to be the best left winger at the club by quite a number of the rochdale staff and fans but Rundle is preferred as he likes to run inside, rather than get to the by line, and lets face it Rochdale aren't exactly blessed with height or in Evils case willingness to head the ball!!! Rory has only ever been happy here and I honestly think he could be a good aquisition once again, especially as he is a free agent. |

It will always be one of them where one person agrees and another doesn't - but for me I wouldn't touch the guy. We have already been bitten once this season by bringing back an ex-player with an attitude so I'd hate to see it happen again. I think we have options for the left wing which haven't been explored fully (Whalley, Dennehy, Harris, Boco) so why waste another chunk of money on wages when we don't have to? Quote:

Re: Another prodigal son to return?
Funny, but I've never been at ease with having diving cheats playing for the club I support, despite any other qualities they might have.
|
Re: Another prodigal son to return?
one or two are sorry to see him go but all accept that he is a bit part player. No disrespect to Rochdale but if ain't good enough for thier first team then he's not good enough for ours. As a team Rochdale and Stanley are very similar in terms of the strength in depth we can carry and the aspirations we have. If they can't afford to have him as a luxury then neither can we - he must play in the 1st XI, but isn't good enough or consistent enough.

Thanks for that. I thought there was a connection. I think I read somewhere that Rory had done some scouting for Sheffield Wednesday. Mick's goals saved Sheffield Wednesday from Division 4 in season 1975-6 and I saw him play in their 4-2 defeat at Preston. |
