Re: Tonight V Peterborough
The old Stanley only played Peterborough twice in the league winning 3-2 at Peel Park and only losing 3-0 at their place.

Re: Tonight V Peterborough
The view from Posh:-
On a rain sodden pitch Peterborough United and Accrington Stanley somehow contrived to play a very entertaining football match. POSH managed at times to play some slick passing football at pace and also made some telling counter attacks. Hat-tricks for Boyd and Mclean, with CMS ending his dry spell (pun intended) with a brace. The scoreline does not do justice to Stanley. They also played some attractive football at times, and even though 4 - 0 down at half time, they scored twice in quick succession just after the restart, and you could sense the home fans getting a little nervous. Despite there only being about 20 Stanley fans they could be heard singing as the home crowd were so quiet. Once POSH scored their fifth goal though you could feel the relief, and POSH got going again scoring a further 3 times (it could have been more, but for some good defending). Well played the POSH, but especially well done to Stanley for not giving up and making a good game of it, and the Stanley fans, a long journey, a heavy defeat, but you still applauded your players at the end of the match, true Football supporters! |
Re: Tonight V Peterborough
WELL....nice post REDRAINE...that is a very interesting view...love to know who the writer considered was doing 'the good defending'...
Have to say well done to the hearty bunch of Stanley supporters who he/she refers to.. |
Re: Tonight V Peterborough
According the Coleman's interview on Radio Lancashire, he is accepting full blame for the defeat. Nice to see him not blaming the officials for a change.

Re: Tonight V Peterborough
Does indeed make a change and it's about time he grew some backbone & took the blame.
Personally I think we took the backlash from them being beaten by Macc on Saturday - that said there are some positives from last night, Sean Whalley who as far as I can remember hasn't scored a senior goal for us before netted past a keeper who cost £400,000 & we did score 2 at a ground where many have gone & not scored at all. I just hope our lads can pick theirselves up from it & come out fighting on Saturday. |
Re: Tonight V Peterborough
Hi posh fan here, just wanted to say well done to your fans who made the trip, as beens said before, stayed to the end and clapped the players off.
Have to say its your scouts who should take some of the blame for last nite, teams in the lower half who have done well against us play very defensivly, mark tightly and hit us on the break. Stanley last nite played far to openly, your back line far to high up the pitch with our pace up front. As usual with us we seemed to think we'd won at half time so let you back in, quality cross for your first by the way from yr guy on the left, not sure his name. Hope you pick it up next match, i think you will, we did after sat. You were by no means the worst team seen at London road this season, just got your tactics wrong and we were always going to tonk the next team we played after saturdays performance against Macc. Good luck for the rest of the season |

It was our bad luck that we played you just after you'd been beaten at home & we were always gonna get the backlash from that I think although we didn't realise it would be such a hammering (you could've had a heart & stopped at 6  ) |

You big guy up front, Mulin? impressed me, won most headers he went for but noone seemed to be on the end of them. I like stanley, except at your place last season, no idea how you suvive on the gates you get, good luck |
Re: Tonight V Peterborough
Just heard that Darren Ferguson was going bananas on Sky Sports News - really angry that Posh let 2 goals in - some folk are never satisfied :)

Re: Tonight V Peterborough
Before we all start to blame "the scouts".
ASFC have no specific scouts. The duties are under taken by Ashley Hoskin, Coley and Jimmy, ocassionally injured players and other club officials. The scouting duties are undertaken as well as the other jobs that these people do as their main role within the club. eg: Ash will take the youth team on a Saturday morning and then take in a game within the North West in the afternoon. Watching Peterboro play Macclesfield last Saturday ( to my knowledge) would be impractical for a northern based official. At present we do not have the resourses or the contacts to set up this network. There are numerous way's to get the information but it all comes at a cost. I'm sure Coley will use his many contacts when possible, but he could hardly ring up Dibs for a little bit of Posh inside information:rolleyes: |
Re: Tonight V Peterborough
More Posh comments - I'm just trying to cheer us all up a bit!:-
When they upped their game they clawed back two goals and but for a fantastic save from Lewis and the Ref choosing not to award them a penalty when Boyd had a couple of goes at giving one away it would have been 4-4 and what then! |
