Duo's questions and answers

So are many people going to watch Rommy then post a few questions to coley and Jimmy at the crown tomorrow night??

Thinking of going straight from work...and happy to pose any questions for anyone who can't make it!! Well if they are sensible questions that is

And if by chance I ask a question on behalf of someone on here and it is judged as the winning question...I will assure you now that I will thoroughly enjoy the two free pints :D

Can't make this one but if you can ask the following for me if you don't mind?

1) What do you think is the reason for our poor home form so far this season?

2) How significant to your future plans and the Clubs is the continued development of the Centre of Excellence?

Thanks HR

Can't help thinking that the question they judge to be the best will also be the least awkward for them :)

Questions printed off and will take them with me Neil!

I doubt I will get back on here before tonight now, so can't ask any other questions, sorry!

Will try to remember questions asked and the answers, but not sure how well I will do :o

Re: Duo's questions and answers

can you ask 3 questions for me

1. do you think John Miles failure to hold down a regular first team place at accrington stanley was down to ability or application?

2. Football clubs hit ceilings where they can no longer progress further on the pitch without financial investment. Where do you see Stanleys ceiling?

3. With the growth of the European Union, work permits for non UK nationals are no longer required for players from Eastern bloc countrys. Will you consider taking more european free agents on trial in the summer?

Re: Duo's questions and answers

To jc
1. Is Robbie Williams untouchable?
2. Is he your biological son?
3. Do you think you have carried him far enough?
4. What benefits do our new strikers recieve when we bring them in and play them in midfield?

And at that coleman lunges at supporter questioning his genius IQ and asks him if he could do a better job with bollocks resources.

Seems that some explanations would be desirable over the Roberts and Roscoe news.

Is any one able to report on these and other issues from last night's Forum?

maccawozzagod 26-01-2008 09:15

Re: Duo's questions and answers

Accrington Stanley made all players 'available' some time ago as reported on the fishy site. Offers were invited so to speak and Roberts was somebody who an offer was made on. After a good start Roberts has not fulfilled the hopes and aspirations that Coley had for him. His lack of pace being one. Although Coley would rather have Roberts apply himself better the decision is down to him as to whether he goes or not.

Coley did also say that Roberts would benefit from having a leader along side him.

As for Roscoe, Torquay made an offer for him a fortnight ago. He was made aware of the offer and as a club we will never stand in the way of a player moving on if they wish. The move was a good one for Roscoe as it involved him moving back to the South where he comes from - therefore the deal was done. We made a bit on the deal so everyvbody wins.

Re: Duo's questions and answers

Did anybody ask anything about Rocky?

harwood red 26-01-2008 09:28

Re: Duo's questions and answers

Right, I was there last night and did pose the questions on here..

Pendle Red

1) What do you think is the reason for our poor home form so far this season? Coley said he wished he knew and has been perplexed by it as much as anyone, he gave a couple of options - teams fearing the new league players last year and not so much this year, they've tried the getting together overnight before a home match to see if that helped! to emulate the feel of away matches.

2) How significant to your future plans and the Clubs is the continued development of the Centre of Excellence? Both felt this is where the future of stanley can only get better, With Bobby Grant and Martin Fearon now come through the youth set up already..and the centre of excellence slowly working up to the younger talented local lads also... feels it may be a few years before it is truely established in all age ranges but definately a big thumbs up from the management team

DAV007

1. do you think John Miles failure to hold down a regular first team place at accrington stanley was down to ability or application? Obviously now knowing that he has gone out on loan wasn't sure whether to ask this one, but did anyway...Coley said his style of play makes him look naturally lazy, but he felt this was far from true but admitted he hadn't shown what he was capable of at Stanley and that both management and miles himself had been disappointed on his performances.

2. Football clubs hit ceilings where they can no longer progress further on the pitch without financial investment. Where do you see Stanleys ceiling?
Jimmy wanted to answer this one and believes in our current set up we can go one step further... Coley at this point wanted to state that this is why some players have been let go, and that it was circulated that players were available and if any offers came in, he talked to that player and asked if they wanted to go, he wanted to state that Lee McEvilly and the mgmt duo were aware he had not performed for stanley and Lee wanted to play football and not just sit in the stands and collect his wages, so that is why he has gone out both times. Because of the finances of the club to be able to free up wages would allow them to get other players in as the squad was too large to financially allow anymore signings. He also admitted to this being his worst season for signings and that he had got it wrong a few times and holds his hands up to that ... he also stated Rocky has played some awful football this season off the back of last season when he believed he was one of our best players.

As for the final question DAV007 I didn't have time but it was touched on that we don't have a massive scouting system in place, so we do rely on information that comes through from non paid people who have gone and watched matches at many levels! Did manage to ask jimmy after this question and he said if a player was available and Eric wanted to pay him to go out there  he would be more than happy to go and bring anyone back he felt was up to the stanley job :D

The Q & A's session went on for over an hour and half and as you can imagine I can't remember everything, but if someone wants to ask then I will see if it jogs any memories :o

Just to note that UK cowboy got the 2 free pints and it was quite a tough question, so will let him update you on that one

Something else I have just remembered!!

I asked with their playing days in the distant past:D (sorry couldn't resist and they took in good humour) and both from a striking playing background, are our defence missing out on good defensive coaching and are we looking to bring anyone in to specialise in coaching the defense.

Coley replied that with them both being prolific strikers in the past :D who better to work with the defense and train them to understand the mind set of how a forward will work to get through a defense!! They admitted the defense has been a nightmare this season and they have been working hard on it in training, but when it comes down to matches, the lads are on the pitch not him and jimmy! This led to the question of goalies and there is a goal keeping coach on the way but they couldn't release the name as yet but it would be a known name!

I'm just hoping officer dibble is coming back!!!!!

Re: Duo's questions and answers

He did talk about rocky and said his form this season has been bad, but was concerned about who else could fill that central defensive place, and that part of rocky's downfall is he needs a leader working alongside him and that leader hasn't been there! He also touched on him becoming a father this season and wasn't sure if this had an impact on his playing!!

Re: Duo's questions and answers

somebody did ask who Coleys all time Stanley XI would be so I'll try to remember who they were

1. Jamo
2. Cav
3. Reg Hollis
4. Rocky
5. Smith
6. Marsh
7. Payne
8. Craney
9. Lutel
10. Mullin
11. Shirley

... then admitted that they probably couldn't play together

Both Eric and John look forward to the days when we have the worst ground in the Premiership.

Coley and Jimmy both said that they have read the messageboards in the past (and it was Coley who posted on here earlier this year when some doubted the ID of the poster) but mainly to get a feel for how the fans feel about the club in general. I asked Jimmy what he thought the most unfair criticism of John had been and they both replied that accusations of John being bully was the worst. Nobody is shipped out of the club for standing up to him and the main reason Mike Flynn had gone was that his legs had gone and he didn't have a competitive 90 mins left in him at that level. Accusations that Rommy had been bullied by Evil were also unfounded and that they as a duo would not allow any form of bullying. But Rommy had been called Sybil (I think) when he returned from International duty because the squad felt that they had sent his brother back rather than Boco himself as he wasn't performing the same.

When asked whether the club should catch up with the team off the field before we aim for League One Coley said that he wouldn't be there if we weren't actively improving the team year on year. He'd rather be struggling in a higher league than 'doing a Rochdale' and settling down for the long haul.

Eric asked when we would be getting a leader type of Captain on the field, I can't really remember the answer as somebody else chipped in with half a dozen questions without pausing for breath.

Rob Heys interrupted the questions as Eric was mindful that whilst we were all talking and listening we weren't drinking!

... and then lager kicked in and the rest goes blank

Hmmm wasn't it Cyril they called boco??

Also that bloke who kept chipping in was doing my nut in (understatement!!), he was asking questions then answering them himself without giving coley and jimmy a chance to answer, in fact at one point jimmy told him to shut up :D

As for the lager kicking in...I know what you mean :o

Thanks to those who have posted reports - and thanks to JC and JB for answering the questions.

Just one minor puzzle. Harwood Red notes that "part of Rocky's downfall is he needs a leader working alongside him". Macca comments that JC said that "Roberts would benefit from having a leader alongside him". So we have two central defenders lacking a leader. I wonder how Sean Webb fits into this picture. And sorry to keep saying this but the natural leader is there - yet cannot get a regular game. Who he? Leam Richardson IMHO.

I agree 100% with this Leam Richardson is a natural leader and is one of our most experienced players especially in the league which is what we need. always 100% in which ever position he plays however i think his best position is on the right. our main concern over the past few years is central defence, anyone worth the salt can see this??? and as for him been ill? he was only ill for the peterborough game as he was on the bench the game before and i spoke to him before the game and he was unsure why he was left out and seemed fine then????????????????
2 centre halves with experience please..........................................:e gged:

both John and Jimmy reckon that we have the best attacking right back in the league (Cav), the best midfielder (Craney) and the best target man (Mullin). They both reckoned that with the addition of two quality centre backs and a 20 goal a season striker to play alongside Mullers we will challenge the top three

HR asked this question and John for some strange reason said it's up to the goalkeeper whether he has one on the front post or one on the back I kept thinking why not both but he said it would be suicide to do that as it would leave a free man in the box, once again I was puzzled by his thinking.

Re: Duo's questions and answers

two men on the posts leaves more gaps in the box and we have conceded fewer goals from corners this season than previously, apparently.

He leaves it up to the goalie as that is his specific job to set the defence how they want it - John won't overrule a goalkeepers decision.

I asked whether the duo felt let down by the clubs inability to inform the fans that (eg) players are unfit to play etc and whether that put extra pressure on them, unnecessarily. They replied that we don't put on the website that a player is ill as it gives the opposition a bit of a heads up as to who is playing or not playing

harwood red 27-01-2008 13:40

Re: Duo's questions and answers

Right I have asked UK Cowboy what his winning question was as I was a bit vague to what it was....

Tactical question...after you (coley) publicly slated in the press (which he admitted he did) 2 defenders and stating there would be changes made, many fans were interested and excited of the prospect of a changed defensive line up..only for the defenders in question were in the starting line up afor the next game and one of them was wearing the captains armband, why say you are going to make changes and then change nothing?????

The reply was lack of options in the central midfield and jimmy then stated he believed pete was talking about the morecambe game that we won 1-0, however pete/sarah are sure it was mk dons which we lost 5-0 and after some checking through the press articles I have found they are quite correct match_analysis_accrington_stanley_1_rochdale_2

Stanleymad 27-01-2008 14:01

Re: Duo's questions and answers

Yes it was MK dons & that dreaded 5-0 defeat, yes Rocky was made captain [unbelievable] which many of us on the thread was in heavy discussion about why he got the captaincy never mind why he was actually playing after previous poor play by him:(

Good Q Pete & brave, tho surprisingly didnt have the answers seemingly then, at that time captaincy should of gone to Bav's least for his effort if nowt else with a poor defence line:rolleyes:

maccawozzagod 27-01-2008 14:28

Re: Duo's questions and answers

.. just remembered another one. John admitted that if Mullin had left then McEvilly would have stayed and would have become his number 1 number 10 (so to speak). He reckoned that we couldn't really accomodate them both as they are both similar players but Mullin takes precedence due to his long service, 20 0dd goals a season and the fact that we will get another 2 1/2 years out of him.

AccyMad 27-01-2008 14:30

Ok we have given info on what we have all can remember being asked and what the answers were, but out of those on here that attended, did you feel more positive after listening to what they had to say and how they answered questions...also few of us continued to chat with them after the session had ended...

For those of you that didn't attend, what are your thoughts on a whole to the info we have given you?

I felt it was a definite positive move by them both and felt more positive afterwards and don't feel they ducked any questions at all

Pendle Red 27-01-2008 14:45

From the info on the questions that were asked they have both been honest and not ducked out of anything which is what I would expect from them. It's always easy to knock from the outside without knowing the inside track of what goes on day to day and hopefully now people may now have a better understanding of where we are and where we would like to be.:)

I agree with that. But some of the answers are still rather odd. Just as one example, the question of defending the goal line at corners. Messrs Ferguson, Wenger, Grant & Hughes (or should it be van der Saar, Almunia/Lehmann, Cech & Friedel) - and that's just for starters - would not agree with JC and JB on this issue.

maccawozzagod 27-01-2008 17:03

Re: Duo's questions and answers

I felt that it reinforced my opinion that without these two at the helm we would indeed be lost without without a prayer.

A newcomer would not share the same passion with which they go about their daily job and when asked whether morale was at the all time low that has been reported they denied it and said that it had never been better, although it was quiet after the Posh mauling. It was one of the reasons they were so keen for Craney to come back as he is the no 1 joker in the pack.

A newcomer would not have the same relationship with Eric as they have and they are in a position where they can argue with the Chairman whereas a newbie certainly wouldn't.

Yes, they have their failings. yes, they can frustrate the heck out of us sometimes but much of this is down to sheer ability to get the right men in and a newcomer would also have the same poor budget to work with. Coley admitted that this season his signings had failed to acheive their usual high standards, but much of us would think that when signed they were amongst the highest calibre set of players since the Unibond signings (pound for pound). Miles, Carden and Branch all came with glowing references from fans of their previous club, they were all players whose signatures were wanted by other clubs higher up the Pyramid than us. Roscoe was the doubt with all his injuries but he overcame them and impressed the fans. Not a lot, due to his inconsistency and inability to finish the one on ones - but he did impress. Roberts also impressed many of the fans due to his swashbuckling style of defending. We put some of his errors down to covering for others, but Coley thinks otherwise and we have to go with his decision.

We have struggled along with a poor budget and poor facilities since forever it seems., yet they have still managed to put together a team that is not too far away from being a good team. What work could they do if we could double our home crowd and give em more money?

..... just remembered another question.

when asked whether we have good working relationships with other local clubs John said that he had never had any troubles dealing with Preston, Burnley, Liverpool but Blackburn had never been particularly co-operative.

The FA Cup this weekend was full of clearances from men on the post, including a Wayne Rooney header, so I'm with Revived Red, and others, on this.

But thanks to everyone for posting, and JC and JB deserve credit for the evening , only sorry I couldn't get there.

That is exactly the point:)

Things are slowly improving and I suppose as a fan you always want things faster & quicker, you can see from the Stands or so you think where we need to strengthen, so and so should be playing there, he should have come on as sub etc. etc. but the biggest compliment you can have is that we support a Football League Club. What I am slowly learning following Stanley is the struggles of yester year are still there but things are now being built on more solid foundations and what is mapped out now will help us stay the course and hopefully move on year on year.:)

:) i asked JC if L Mcgivern would be the new front man with Mullers , yes was the answer unless someone else could be brought in. also asked why we defended to deep,JC said they work on defending as high up the field as poss, also asked why there seemed to be alack of shoot on sight in stead of trying to pass the in to the back of the net.JC said may be one pass to meany, but they do work on shooting in training.......

Sorry but they haven't convinced me. If Mark Roberts hasn't got pace then why sign him, didn't they watch him first? If both Robbo and Rocky would benefit from a leader why play them together and throw a tantrum when things go wrong? The thing that convinces me they've lost the plot, however, is the statement that Cav and Craney are the best two players in their positions in League 2.

Just remembered something, John said we will shortly be getting a new goalkeeping coach but couldn't tell us who it would be, but we would be happy.

I have pondered for a few days on whether to reply on this thread and after thinking about what was said I'm with yerself on this. I was not convinced about some of the answers given ie Rocky and Roberts. I didn't like the way Eric sat directly in front of Coley as if waiting to pull a face if Coley spoke out of line, why was Rob Heys there, maybe as he did to jump up and stop the questioning just as it was getting interesting.
To me Coley came across as a flustrated person who knows things aren't right but seems unable to do much about it either with tactics or players being allowed to leave.
The people who went just think about what was said and forget the nice chap you had a beer with or OSC members just put aside this falseness about showing a united front, Eric doesn't give a sh*t about you only your cash.
My view is Coley no matter how hard he tries is not the right man to move us forward neither is Eric Whalley, stuff the keep the faith I'm sick of this falseness speak your mind for once.

Re: Duo's questions and answers

Don't think anyone can say I don't speak my mind and I also spoke my mind on the night and questioned coley on some of his tactics... but I will not descend into a slagging off anyone at the club, that has nothing to do with being part of the osc, or for any other reason, other than that I am a stanley fan and stand behind the club..... it also doesn't mean I won't have a moan from time to time either but being negative all the time doesn't help anyone!!!!!!!

There is a difference between being negative and being realistic, and I think Bagpus is being realistic.
