Crap game.

Positives:
Phil Edwards and Darren Kempson had good games, as did Mr reliable Leam Richardson. Whalley played well when he came on.

Negatives:
Aswad was awful today- what's happened to him?
Mannix completed about 5% of his passes.
Craney/Mullin/Mangan completely absent.

Bring on the Shrimps eh.

Aswad, as an eighteen year old centre half playing at left back, then left wing and finally centre forward, thought he did OK.

5% - so many? Of course, if you count the ones going sideways or backwards it would be much higher.

Re: vs hereford

Their first goal was a shambolic effort at defending. Two people had a go at it within the six yard box before the Welshman scored beyond the despairing fingertips of Kenny Arthur.

The 2nd goal was a passback from 45 yards that Arthur had to chase. From the Clayton End it looked like he cleared it with a yard to spare, but even without the claims of the 6 or so Welshies behind the goal, the 30 yard away liner gave it. HE WAS THE ONLY ****** IN THE GROUND WHO THOUGHT IT WAS A GOAL!

Disappointments were mainly that only about 160 Welshies were allowed away from their homesteads for this one and that we lost by one goal and a hotly duputed goal to nil. Also, at 2 nowt down where was the Leighton McGivern substitution?

Re: vs hereford

So we have won two games in a row, but today we were beaten by a far superior footballing side. Remember Hereford came into the Football League when we did.
Although they get bigger gates than we do and probably have more money to splash out on players, is it due to good coaching and management techniques that they outplayed us? Their coaching methods are obviously poles apart from our "lump it up to Mullin" approach which never changes and gets us nowhere.

Re: vs hereford

Oh dear, the negative vibes are on the rise again. We have only lost one game in 3 FFS, we have 2 winnable games coming up, in fact the rest of the seasons games are all winnable. So the team had an off day, we have never won 3 on the bounce since we entered the league.

ukcowboy 08-03-2008 19:37

Re: vs hereford

TBH I thought that we played some half decent footie for the first 1/2 hr or so, but then we seemed to fade away. You could see the Lads heads drop when the first goal went in and you gotta feel for KA as He got his fingers to it but just couldnt turn it round the post.

As for the second goal, I couldnt tell from where I was standing whether or not the ball had crossed the line and the question over the Liners position has to looked at, if Roberts was the last defender, then the Liner should have been in line with Him, meaning that He would have been about 25yds from the goal lone, however was Roberts the last defender or was someone deeper than Him, hence meaning that the Liner would be closer than 25yds and quite possibly had a better view than we are giving Him credit for...........I cant recall, but no doubt we shall see tomorrow when the goals are shown on TV.

Once again we seem to lack the will to shoot at goal and at times today we seemed to want to walk the ball in rather than have a pop, is this a confidence thing, or something else? Again I dont know........

Finally, to answers Maccas question on another post, IMO we still have a way to go before we 'turn the corner'............sorry :o

Shakermaker said 'Whalley played well when he came on.'

and 'Aswad was awful today- what's happened to him?'

Was he watching the same game as me ? Whalley was useless. Totally ineffective. He had one run down the wing and a shot that went way over. Other than that he did nothing. Thomas played the full game and although it was not his best game he is worth his place in team. Whalley isn't..... he's been given so many chances, I can't for the life of me see what JC sees in him. Give some of the younger players a chance.

now come on , coleman thought McEvilley was a good signing . whalley has a crap 2nd touch . Mags shouldnt have come back , hes not up to league standard . aswad must be living with his mother if he want to come up here and ply his wannabee trade . Kenny will be gone at seasons end and do we have any more strikers who can head a ball . we are back to being the whipping boys again .

Reamer 08-03-2008 21:48

Re: vs hereford

No , Mr Mode , Whalley hasn't got a crap 2nd touch.... he has NO 2nd touch. ....His first touch makes sure of that.

Re: vs hereford

The fact that a group of hereford fans were chanting can we have you every week to the lineman suggests that it wasnt a goal.

We were bad, but did not deserve to lose, we bossed possession and they did nothing real to deserve a win. Draw would have been justified.

Re: vs hereford

Shocked when the lino "gave" the second goal.....didn't look to be over the line to me. However, I thought we deserved the points on the balance of play. Interesting to read that Mullin and Craney were "absent"....I thought they were the only two threats. Mullin won plenty of flicks and lay-offs but lacked support apart from Craney's onrushes. Defence looked beaten once the second "went in". Enjoyed The Crown and thanks for letting us park our minibus there.

You certainly deserved the points, even without the second "goal". The main difference between the sides for me was your attack, which showed great interplay to get behind our defence on numerous occasions. We just ran up blind alleys, and not having any idea about shooting didn't help either. Turner has done a fantastic job but I just wonder how the reliance on so many loan signings will work when you win the play-offs and have to compete in the 1st div. next season. How many have you on loan at the mo, including Macdonald?

Re: vs hereford

I to thought Hereford were the better team yesterday, they could have been a few up by half time, they were far better going forward than we were and played with more imagination.
Mannix left the pitch at half time with the cleanest pair of shorts, which for a midfield player tells you how much battling he did, useless.
Whalley would not get in a team of mine, all he`s got is pace nothing else.
I thought the majority of players did try and at times we did look ok,but the continued hoof it up the pitch tactic is wearing very thin now, i know the surface wasn`t the best for getting it down and playing fancy football, but i thought Hereford coped a lot better with the condition of the pitch than we did.
I thought before the game that we would be lucky to get anything out of it,as Hereford are up where they are for a reason, so i wasn`t to upset with the result, just a few of the players lack of comitment.

On second thoughts, it wasn't just their attack. They always seemed to have a man available all over the pitch for the simple ball to advance without the need for the big hoof. To get a team as well drilled as that must take some very clued up coaching.

I spoke to a Hereford fan who's a qualified referee. He had a better view of the second goal than most and didn't think it had crossed the line - but couldn't be absolutely certain. I'm amazed that the liner thought it had.

The answer is seven. However, the rules are the same for everyone. Also, a lot of the better, young players around in League 2 and 1 are only prepared to sign contracts for a maximum of a year in case an opportunity comes along from a higher club. Little difference between 1 year contracts and season long loans IMO.

The better young players will prefer to sign a longer deal with a bigger club at a higher wage and come out on a year's loan to a League 1 or 2 club - possibly with that club only defraying a percentage of that wage and the big club paying the rest to signing a one year contract with a smaller club at a percentage of that wage and no bigger club to top it up.

I can clearly say as did several Hereford fans the ball was a good foot away from the line when Kenny hoofed it. My vantage point- with the stewards to the right of Herefords goal. Quote of the day from a Hereford fan on way out " We didn't pay the liner a penny, honest! 1-0 down a chance, vs 11 players + an official no chance!
