anti climax

think problem with crowd size is that we have reached the holy grail or the promised land and the people that use to make the numbers up in odd games now see us as going no further . eg .. no prom just mid table at best . just my views . think people miss non league for this reason .

Stanleymad 10-03-2008 17:40

Re: anti climax

Funny enough this conversation of returning to non league seems to be doing the rounds atm, already discussed on here somewhere & quite a few in clubhouse were suggesting the idea & also on stanleymad too, so will repeat myself, not hehehe, erm no i dont think we should go back to non league [not by choice any road], whats up with some fans - have u no balls for the big pond or what?!?

We are never gonna be big bucks as terms of crowds with the radius we're in & seems to be historically repeating itself that way - but as terms of the team - yes they are good enough & have the ampititude to stay in league 2 quite comfortably - just wish there was a bit more self beleif!! Tho hard when some fans doubt the manager & the teams ability to do so especially morale wise, which this talk doesn't help.

We're 15th in the league - keep the faith!:D

I think this might be the only way to get him not to post!
Surely he hasn't got anything positive to say about Stanley!

dont think thats reason for crowd size, been well documented that 6 yrs of accy having no team is probably the main reason, cos generations of possible fans were lost through that, Stanley are in the league on MERIT, despite all this, think most who still go accept that fact n are damn glad they are in wi the big boys, as i'm sure you are. accept that n move on. increasing fan base is another argument. thats my 2 pennorth.

Re: anti climax

mybe we could start selling match tickets at discount prices at high schools and also sell match tickets in town centre also . what about lottery tickets being spread out in surround small towns like clitheroe ect . people in clitheroe dont mind stanley at all , a few go near me , one reason pointed out was it was a easy run in car to ground . no town centre route ect ..

maccawozzagod 11-03-2008 18:22

Re: anti climax

I agree that Clitheroe is a 'gettable' town. Places like Harwood and Rishton feel affiliated to Blackburn and Rossendale, Padiham etc are Burnley. The Ribble Valley is fair game and should be attacked with vigour. There are a good few of you down that neck, why not get together and put your thinking caps on? Come summer time and I'll roll out the OSC tent if there are any fetes on anywhere, and the Football In The Community (FITC) would gladly join in.

A lad I know comes to quite a lot of Stanley games from Clitheroe and sometimes brings others with him because "its the closest decent club". We should capatalise on this IMHO.

As Macca said the OSC & Football in the Community Sceme can help, but it needs a more direct & positive approach from the Club & not just in Clitheroe:confused:

I don't think Clitheroe F.C. would be happy with that, after all, we wouldn't like it if Rovers or Burnley ran a recruitment drive in Accy on a Saturday morning.

But Rovers and Burnley and Liverpool DO come into our schools!

We'll see what the club think and give it a go I reckon. Thanks Mr Miller

Some kids have the unfortunate pleasure of having to go to a trip to rovers to encourage attendances at school - now thats punishment:rolleyes:

rovers and dingles come to schools in clitheroe , why cant stanley come as well for say a 6 week footie course for say hour after school once a week then end of course give out memberships for juniours to get in for nowt (under 11s ) then children hopefully will pester dads to take um knowing they will only have to pay for parents and not kids .

which is worst? One hour talking and playing with the kids or handing a leaflet out as they pass by? Like DM said though, Rovers and Burnley go into Clitheroe schools so why shouldn't we? I don't think there would be anything wrong with it at all but I'll Eric decide, he may have a gentlemans agreement with the Chairman at Clitheroe due to his history with them.

As for Liverpool coming into our schools it was about 18 months ago I think. It came out whilst I was trying to organise the Open Day that Liverpool had been into Rhyddings (and some of their feeder schools) and had done it a couple of times.

only thing clitheroe fc have to do with schools is .............. well nothing . so let get stanley in to clitheroe schools , why not , bloody dingles do and the kids enjoy it but they dont do anything to encourage kids to go to dingle matches , they just give naff cert out after course has finished

I'd be very suprised if that was true. Several hundred free tickets are given out to schoolchildren for every home match, I beleive the same is true at Rovers.

I made some enquiries last night. The free match tickets with a course are advertised before hand if it applies to a particular course, but usually only applies to the ones held in Burnley.

The academy trial is standard practice for any club. However the bigger the scouting network the more likely the child has already been spotted if they play football for a boys team. Obviously thats a problem for Stanley because they haven't the resources for a scouting network and have to rely more on the community team spotting talent in schools. A scouting network isn't going to happen overnight.

As for free tickets in general for Clitheroe schools, there was a coach full from Ribblesdale school the week before last week for the Turf and this comng Saturday free tickets have been given to Pendle primary schools. The tickets are for the kids and helpers be they parents or staff. There is no free admission at Burnley for children like there is at Stanley but the free admission isn't a benefit if the adults aren't prepared to pay to get in and there is nobody to take the children.

It was Watford, must have been a special offer they usually do those adult/child tickets at a fiver :D

Re: anti climax

I would think the best place for any sort of recruitment drive in Clitheroe is the Market on a Saturday morning or the Car Boot on Sunday Morning, Just an info sheet saying who we are, where we are and some junior members sheets to fill in it highlights the under 12 offer of free tickets and if nothing else the information given can be used as a database for either posting or emailing out follow ups

Having thought about it, the £3 was probably for the coach.

An exciting season is in prospect ( 08/09) as Stanley will get a play-off spot. Coleman will tighten up the defence , that is all we need to do the job . I am looking to skint my bookie on this.
