mannix

How is the boy mannix playing i not had chance to see him, i believe if not for his injuries he would be world class

Re: mannix

He did not have a particularly good game on Saturday, but I have not seen him often enough to form an opinion

SamF 10-03-2008 18:17

Re: mannix

I actually thought he played well on saturday, fair enough a couple of mistakes but his touch was class and made some very intelligent passes.

Re: mannix

people must see that he has improved the team no end.
Mannix is holding in midfield and stopping teams running at us.
trust me he will play at a much higher level!!

Totally agree. I think I gave Branchy about 8 games to show something. ;)

Have a feeling that central midfield would be better if it was Mannix or Craney, plus Proccy or Jay, but let's see.

He has got class as you can see when he plays but hopefully he will start sticking some in the net, he does have the ability to. I think as soon as he gets a goal i think he will play much much better!

In a division where keeping hold of the ball is looked upon as a crime the lad sticks out like a sore thumb.
Already you can see the other players look up to him............

But he is a holding midfielder, sure a goal or two wouldn't go a miss, but he is more of a supplier than receiver.

Yeah I agree.

I think Mannix has been a very good signing. Some of his control and passing skills are reminiscent of Marshy in the Unibond days and definitely shows off his pedigree. However, he had a stinker against Hereford. I think he will know that.

Wynonie Harris 10-03-2008 22:15

Re: mannix

Don't think he's shown his full potential yet (as he's certainly not played as well as he did in the match at Cleethorpes last season), but I reckon he will turn out to be a vital member of our squad in the fullness of time.

Redraine 10-03-2008 22:28

Re: mannix

I'm sorry that I have to be the dissenting voice on here, but for me he contributes very little. Granted, he plays a holding midfield role, but what's the point when he constantly gives the ball away anyway? Anyone can do that. I was never a great fan of Marsh, either, so obviously I know nowt.:D

I too thought he had a nightmare against Hereford. When I questioned the MOM award to the people who awarded it him, it explained a lot. I only saw what he was doing from the Clayton End, the MOM awarders were watching from the main stand/clubhouse. They saw a different Mannix to what I did, one who on more than several occasions, stopped a very good Hereford side playing through us and thats why he got MOM. Asset to the team.... :mosher:

I agree with D.M!
I think we should play King at left back and Aswad on the left of midfield - both great on the ball and Aswad looks more of an attacker than defender to me. Humping the ball up to an isolated Mully is OK to a degree, but I would like to see us attacking in numbers like Hereford did with swift running off the ball. The heavy pitch didn't seem to stop them avoiding the hopeful long ball approach.

Re: mannix

Mannix has disappointed me a touch because I had a very opinion of him, but that position is done best by somebody you don't notice in a game like Makelele. Viera and Keane did a similar job but were noticed more because they did it in a bone crunching manner. I think he will have more influence on the game when he learns the way the players a bit more. Until then he seems to be playing a little more cautiously than perhaps he needs to. But then again it may be no coincidence that since he came into the side we have conceded a lot fewer goals?

To the misinformed ****** who thinks I know nothing about this because I allegedly don't remember Marshy - I was supporting Stanley quite some time before Marshy came anywhere near the Crown Ground. Now hows about you go and lie down on the car park while it's being resurfaced, that I'd give money to charity for - ****** stocks & sponges. :D

And was I the only one to think that, in spite of his errors, which were in keeping with Robbo's,and most of the others in the Team, he made a more telling contribution to the side than did his more Illustrious and EXPENSIVE midfield colleague !

David has the 'Class' that SamF has spotted, and with another couple of
'familiarisation' games under his belt, will I feel be the one to hold our
'engine-room ' players together !

Get behind him !...NO SLAGGING OFF!!...it can only be good news for the Reds!

You were not the only one. Give him a couple more games and I think he'll begin to show his class.
Which do you think is better value for money, Mannix on a free transfer or 85000 more Illustrious and EXPENSIVE midfield colleagues?

Craney is under contract, Mannix will probably be away at the end of the season.

That actually makes sense ya know, most people on these boards are clayton enders - and I was to up until this season, however since my grandad picking up a few years we decided for the main stand this season - from the main stand you can see Mannix's area of the pitch a lot better with a side on view

DM you really are thick as pig sxxt........

Mannix has started 6 games, we have won 4 with two clean sheets.
He was immense tonite and as soon as the other players get on his wavelength ( ie keeping hold of the ball when there's no pass on) the better!!
Well done Manno!!

Re: mannix

Sad to see Ian Craney go off last night, I felt that he was about to give us the game that he 'owes' us !. Glad to see that my prophecy regarding the potential which David Mannix so obviously has in his locker...and between his ears!...was again fulfilled. His on-the-ground link- ups with Paul Mullin made a refreshing change from the incessant flow of hopeful high balls slammed in that direction, and Manno also cut down the supply line to Michael Twiss, who after his goal became more and more impotent as the second-half wore on!.

'POTTED SHRIMPS....LOVELY !!'.....'ON STANLEY...ON!'

Reamer 13-03-2008 10:28

Re: mannix

Mannix is a good player. He gives us something different and has the ability and confidence to hold the ball and look for players in space or on a run. Sometimes the passes don't always work but then neither does simply humping the ball up to Mullin. On the evidence of last night, it looks like he can shoot too.

Redraine 13-03-2008 11:50

Re: mannix

After questioning his ability in an earlier post I have to say that he looked the business last night. He was fired up and more aggressive right from the first whistle and was a big factor in our win. With Jay Harris also firing it looks like our "engine room" could be sorted. One of the best moments was when Jay executed some brilliant footwork to slalom past 3 of their players in the second half. Just like watching Brazil, that bit!
Mangan coming on seemed to galvanise Shaun Whalley too, and they both looked dynamite, with Shaun looking good when he attacked from a more central position than usual, not sliding away across the face of their defence. I thought Morecambe looked good throughout, and just wonder if we would have come back if Blinkhorn hadn't missed his golden chance in the first half. With our newly rediscovered spirit, though, anything is possible.

Telegraph said he was dissapointingly quiet last night but I thought he looked tidy. In the position he plays in, if you dont notice him it probably means hes done an effective job.

And that's exactly what he did Alvin !......t'Telegraph's Player Rating System
(as they call it!) really does leave much to be desired, and should not be taken too seriously !.

Whilst I don't like to see any player injured I'm afraid I don't share your sorrow to see him leave the pitch. Apart from his lucky 25 yd. strike the other week what has he contributed to the team since his return? They certainly played better without him yesterday. Get rid of Craney and Shaun Whalley and there's the makings of a half decent team.

Tin Monkey 13-03-2008 20:17

Re: mannix

As I said on the other thread, we improved after Craney left the field because he isn't a striker and he was played out of position. We are much better when we play Craney in midfield and have another striker up front with Mullin.

There is a lot more to the Desane story than meets the eye, but we have missed him because he supported Mullin and played off him. Mangan did a similar sort of job last night, which is why we looked better all over the field in the second half.

Funny, yes, but don't really think there is a correlation, statistically unviable, as some might say. We were actually losing when he came off against Chester, plus we have lost games when he has started.

I'd like him to be the player some think he is, (including himself it seems ;)), but as yet he's not done a lot to impress me, I gave up counting the number of times he lost it in one match. Maybe someone can tell me when he has contributed to a goal scoring move?
He seems far from fit, bit slow and rarely lasts 90 mins, room for improvement, to say the least.
