Are you sure Ventre played? I heard he was suspended.

Actually, it's not unusual for Ventre to be suspended. Apparently it's for a sending off last season and carried forward to this one. :D

Sligo play there first home game tomorrow against Drogheda United, Danny Ventre to return from suspension- and prolly walk in to a new one:D:D kick off 8pm. Why do they kick off so late in this league?

I dunno why tbh.

Most games take place on Friday evenings.

Sligo's first home match kicks off at 8pm tonight. Presumably, that's to leave the afternoon free for drinking - no wonder he's a brewer! If you've nothing better to do, there's a good chance of a commentary on http://www.oceanfm.ie/onair/listen.php but don't blame me if it doesn't work. Danny Ventre and two others return from suspension.

There's a match report and team line up from the away defeat at Sligo Rovers F.C. - Bit O'Red first game ends in defeat.

That's where we went wrong with Danny Ventre, always played in defence - things might've been different if we'd tried him in midfield

Just keep Ventre away from the cruet set ;)

Sligo Rovers are mentioned on the Wikipedia site which gives details of the current squad. If you want a laugh click on the Chris Butler link: Chris Butler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Versatile lad is psycho.

Tonight's Sligo v Drogheda United match finished 0-0. Rommy was substituted after picking up an injury in the second half. Psycho got booked.

For any Sligo fans, don't worry he'll be back in a few months. ;)

How's he finding the commuting from Warrington, btw. :)

As for Psycho. ......... I googled him once, it wasn't pleasant.

Danny 'Two Feet' Ventre.

The name Brewer comes from the fact that my second team are Burton Albion.

I know there's stuff on their official site at Sligo Rovers F.C. but does anyone from Sligo have a link to a local newspaper that has Sligo news and match reports?

An England team once beat Australia 17-0. The Aussie goalie was called Norman Conquest!

Re: Sligo Rovers (Sligo Stanley)

Thanks, both. The Weekender has up to date sports pages at Sligo Weekender: Sport. The Champion itself is out of date but from its search facility I was directed to the Irish Independent which has a dedicated Eircom League page at Eircom League of Ireland Football News | Clubs Soccer Championship 2008 - Independent.ie.

Re: Sligo Rovers (Sligo Stanley)

i'd say for anybody thinking of making this trip that they register their interest ASAP.

Sligo are a club of similar stature to ourselves with crowds of around 2000 (?) The fans we have met in previous years have commented on the similarites between the clubs and now that we have a good few ex-reds playing there this should be amplified. The trip is likely to family oriented but make no mistake there will be ample opportunity to sample the local nightlife. And if there isn't one we'll make one!

This will also be a good opportunity to show the Irish what it is really like to support your team. When was the last time you were in a large group of like minded football fans, abroad, singing Stanley songs? and Rommy songs?
