Re: Chesterfield Match Thread

Yes, the ref was unbelievably bad, seemingly booking Stanley players for every tackle, whilst ignoring blatant sending-off offences such as the one which led to the penalty. I was talking to Rocky at half-time and he agreed that, if he'd made a challenge in similar circumstances, there was no way he would have stayed on the pitch!
The bad referee does not, however, excuse the total capitulation once again in the second half. Roberts seems to have lost confidence completely, which in turn gives Kenny the jitters. Craney, whilst I admire him as a footballer, is not, and never will be an out and out striker. Aswad seems to have lost the plot. Kempson had a good game, whilst Proccy, Leam and Phil did ok, but that is as much as you can say. I certainly don't think the recall of Brown will solve any problems, as I think he peaked at conference level, so I'm afraid I can't see the answer on today's display.
Suffice it to say that, having been a Stanley supporter since the early fifties, I don't intend to make the journey across the Pennines on Monday to see another humiliation. I just can't afford all the alcohol to drown my sorrows in the evening!!
Having said all that, I still think Coley will carry on taking us forward and upward - I just feel I need a break - if only for this Monday!!

As a final point, I have been thinking for a while that Mullers was getting past it. Sorry, we didn't half miss him today!

We outpayed and outthought Chesterfield in the first 45 with the wind against us, second half we didn't have a clue, hoof the ball anywhere towards the opposition goal and hope someone in red will get the ball, which they invariably didn't. Why the hell were we playing a team today with no attackers on the field of play and 2 sat on the bench?? When given the chance to sub an attacker - what happens - Branchy comes on????? What on earth is going on, all I can see is a right good thumping at home on Monday. I also thought that if the last player takes out and attacker (as in our penalty today) they were automatically sent off. No caution or red card was shown to the goalie. 3 of the bookings were for tackles that were a lot less worse than anything Chesterfield had done on our players - yet they were not booked, hence the reason (and I have to say) the players and Coley lost the plot (I cannot really blame them). yet now we get a fine (I think) for more than 5 players booked in one game. Also mystified why Mcgivern wasn't in the team. Long journey back through snow and wind, was it worth it, lets just say the ref and his assitants have a lot to answer for.

Same views mainly. The Ref turned the match as was the same at Rochdale. When the keeper fouled Whalley,by my reckoning he should have been straight off as he denied a clear goal scoring chance and was the last man. Had we had the man advantage I think we would have held on, upped our game even and scored a few. But once again our terrible defending cost us the game and it was easy to see why we have the worst record in the league. Roberts should be dropped for Webb and Mark King should get a chance. I've said it before but Aswad Thomas is selected on the one performance at Chester and on recent performances shouldn't even be on the bench.
In all fairness I don't know how we managed to go 2-0 up as all we seemed to do was smash the ball up the pitch with no aim for players-just pure guess work. Can't understand why we didn't start with a striker on the pitch- Craney is no good upfront and should be played in is natural midfield positon.
I think the idea behind Branch was just to have a big player to aim at upfront- similar to Mullin. Brown and Mangan simply can't do that but all the same when we are chasing the game, one of them should come on as well. Mangan should have started on Sunday and today.
Already mentioned the ref-disgraceful. Branch booked for a hard fair tackle, harris booked for kicking the ball away when they escaped it a few times. These refs have no consistancy which really p****s me off.
Can't do anything about these refs but coley doesn't help by going and getting himself sent to the stand. Its only going to give us a bad reputation with other refs. One thing we can do is drop those aren't delivering on the pitch. Bring on Monday and may the management make the changes, otherwise it could be 5+.

Hey Sparkie, why would he break the habit of a lifetime and acknowledge real talent??

Never gonna happen, and while I can understand his frustration at the ref yesterday, how the hell does his petulant display inspire discipline among the players - to get sent to the stands is one thing but to then add to his childish tantrum by sitting on the steps was nothing short of pathetic:mad:

For the record, whilst not condoning's Coley's out burst at the officials, When Coley was asked to go to the stands he was directed up some steps that led towards the home part of the directors box. There were no empty seats and their people made no attempt to move out of his way to allow him to gain access to the Accy part. John then sat on the steps, ( the bit shown on TV). Then the stewards intervened and took him back down the steps, up some more steps into the stand. Two Accy directors moved to allow John to sit next to EW.

John was reacting to the issue that for 6 bookings we wiil receive an automatic FA fine. Yet can any body remember a bad tackle by our lads??

Kenny time wasting in the 40th minute at 2 goals up, what about their keeper at 80 mins?? They were 2 goals up but nothing. Prior to that, their keeper was last man and took out Shaun Whalley. Mandatory red card, very harsh but under present directives the ref has no choice!!

Their guy made a tackle from behind late on, a mandatory yellow card, yet nothing!!

I don't like critising officials; this is the guy who sent off Tony Roberts and gave us two pens in the 5-0 win at Dagenham. Yet he was also in charge at Stevenage when he again carded 6 Accy players, yet Rory Pendergasst was assaulted in front of a linseman and was admited to A&E on oxygen, but the assailant received nothing from Mr McDermaid!!!

That's part of the reason Coley gets wound up, he's passonate and wants consistantcy:)

Trust this sheds some light on yesterday's proceedings!!:)

Mail on Sunday match report: Ten minutes from time Coleman walked when his temper snapped after his Accrington team collected a sixth yellow card in a game that did not really contain a bad tackle.

Mind you, you're probably not in the best of moods when your team has just squandered a two goal lead (again). :(

as long as it isn't every week (like it used to be) then I don't mind outbursts like this from our manager. It shows his commitment to the cause
