Conference or the Football League
Overheard in the Gents Toilet at last weeks game.
I enjoy playing in the Conference rather than the Football League. Nicer Crowds More interesting grounds Win more games Anybody agree |

Re: Conference or the Football League
Absolute and utter no-brainer. The football league is the holy grail. Dozens of clubs all over the country would give anything to swap places with us.

No Brainer:rolleyes: Agree with Wynonie

Re: Conference or the Football League
I must admit I have yet to enjoy a football match as much as the non-league ones.
However, the excitement surrounding those games was married to the possibility of Accrington Stanley getting back in to the league - that impossible dream. The Unibond/Conference matches would've been nothing without our will to get to the league propelling us forward. Being in the football league now is a culmination of forty years' worth of hard work and effort by some of the most brilliant people in football. Saying as a Stanley fan you wish to be back in non-league is practically taking a dump on all those achievments - whatever the state of gates, performances or crowd attitudes is. We are they. |
Re: Conference or the Football League
Some of the best times I've had watching the Clarets were in the old 4th Division, but I wouldn't want us to be back down there. I dare say if you hadn't got in to the league and floundering in the Conference then some people would say the Unibond days were better because they were succesful. It's easier to be happy when you're winning :D

Re: Conference or the Football League
The last two seasons may have been disappointing in terms of results and gates, but, as far as I'm concerned, there is absolutely nothing to compare to it. It's the thing I've been dreaming about (literally) for the last 35 years. I don't go to football to exchange pleasantries with "nice" crowd members or examine "interesting" grounds and if we want more wins, why not just move down to the Northwest Counties League?...we could have lots of victories there. No, to be a member of the oldest and best-known national league in the world is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And, yes, I know this makes me a very sad man, but sometimes, when I'm sitting in the pub, watching Skysports News and that second division table comes up with the name "Accrington Stanley" in it, I can't help having a little smile to myself, as I think, "What, me worry?...I'm a football league fan!" :D

Re: Conference or the Football League
is the question "where would you rather be?" or is it "which did you prefer for matchday enjoyment?"
I would rather be in the Football League but I enjoyed the Unibond best. Back home for 7:30 even at the furthest away grounds and back out on the lash by 8pm! smaller crowds but we were as loud then as we are now. Win lose or draw it never mattered and we didn't whinge about our lot in life. Good days out at small quaint towns and sharing pints and stories with the locals. Matches in large towns or cities don't carry any of the appeal as a day out at Whitby or Colwyn Bay. |
Re: Conference or the Football League
If anyone thinks that the Blue Square is preferable to the Football League, then I suggest that they go to Wrexham on Saturday to ask their fans if they're overcome with joy about the prospect of nice crowds, interesting stadiums and more wins next season. I can guarantee that the answers would be unrepeatable on here!

And if the Red's ever ( God forbid!) fall from the grace of Football League Soccer to being a non-entity in The Blue, Blue fields of Blue Square anonymity.....then they'd probably be league Champions.....gain promotion to League 2....and guess what?,, these same old ambivalent threads making comparson between the relative charms of League versus Conference would start all over again. So to save a lot of time and effort, those of us who really do have a true affection for our great club, are proud of what it has achieved in the past, for what it stands for! and just can't wait to see what ups and downs we have to endure in the future, should be grateful that whatever the present situation holds, WE ARE A FOOTBALL LEAGUE CLUB !. will continue to be so, and deserve this honour!. 'ON STANLEY...ON!!!' To greater things!! |
