smaller squad next year .....
see todays Telegraph
Coley says that they will be carrying a smaller squad next season and will be including the 5 new Youth players in order to free up some extra wages to buy better quality players. So you can bet that 5 players will be moving on to accomodate the young lads, plus extra to enforce the smaller squad, plus extra to make way for new players to come in. We're gonna lose about a dozen of the present squad by the second week of May! |

Smaller squad? Are we getting rid of the big players then?

Read an interview with Steve Coppell a few weeks ago about having a small squad, he stressed the importance of discipline, suspensions can really bite. Certainly need to cut out any silly stuff. The close season may prove more interesting than the last few months. |

Re: smaller squad next year .....
In short this is a cost cutting excercise made to sound good.
What is should really say is I have 1st team players here who are not really good enough unless I sell I can't buy (or uness I get some off the wage bill, I can't even bring in free transfers), I get the 1st team players who I don't want off the bill replace them with what I do want for the same money and fill the squad with cheap youth players as we allready have too small a squad. In short Coley will be given no money to invest in the squad. |
Re: smaller squad next year .....
Trouble with loans is:
1/ Recalls. 2/ Numerical limits on loans, numbers of permitted loans on team sheet - 5 and on pitch - 4. 3/ If things don't quite work out they know their commitment to the club is finite ie they know won't suffer the Conference. 4/ Premiership clubs reluctant to let loans out - ask Chesterfield. 5/ Decent loan strikers like hens' teeth. |
