Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

Very sorry to hear of the departure of some good men who've almost become like friends. When Dean is fit again I'm sure he'll be a great player for some lucky Yorkshire club; John Durnin has made a lasting impression on many of us; Goucky is probably the most photographed and interviewed player in the history of the club , thanks to his amazing televised FA Cup goal.

A big "Thank you",then, to every one of the players who is leaving for whatever reason (and please let's not hear too many cries of anguish directed at the management - difficult decisions have to be made) and you may rest assured that we'll follow your careers with interest.

Any surprises in the list of leavers? Not for me.

I wonder if there'll be any others? There are still a few more that I thought wouldn't stay next season.

Like you say Henry, good servants for the club and good luck to them in the future. Although I doubt Gouck was the most interviewed and photographed player in our history. I'd have thought Paul Beck would still hold that title. ;)

No real supises.. I think a couple of those players where brought in with 1 seasn in mind and where probably told that.

I think there will be more..In fact i would put money on it... I wonder if the released players will be at the presentation evening on the 15th May.. It would be nice to be able to say goodbye to these players.

It's the list of who is coming in that will be of most interest :)

No, please no. Gouck can't leave, he's my hero!! What will we do without him?!?

There will be more pies to go round now Goucky's going.

All the very best to all that are leaving and hope they find success where ever they go.

was suprised by jerome fitzjerald going, only one, still thought deano was useful. good lyuck to all of them could be useful to unibond clubs. :)

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

Jerome Fitzjerald hasn't been with us very long and I thought he was a good player. Still, we have the Division One and Division Two players to sign yet.

I'll be sad to see most of them leave, but most of all opssibly Dean, I always thought he had a lot of skill, and when fully fit will be a great player.

Good luck to all of the lads, in whichever direction they go.

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

What positions do your released players play?

Barrow were linked with Gouck a while back and I seem to remember he was.......a bit on the large side shall we say! He did score a beauty against Bournemouth? though

The two players we want off you would be Mullin and James-who wouldn't want them?

Have you got any centre halves, ball winning midfielders, wingers going free?

Cheers and good luck going FT-spend carefully!

AccyStanFan 28-04-2004 16:33

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

gouky scored againgst huddersfield and his link with barra was rumour.

Calcutts a good winger, too good for barra :)

and jerome fiztgerald would be an excellent signing for anyone other than barra :)

Tin Monkey 28-04-2004 17:17

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

I think that both Calcutt and Fitzgerald (right winger and leftback/winger) would be good signings for Barrow or any other team in the 'Unibond', although Calcutt does have a hernia problem. For me, Fitzgerald was only brought in to fill a hole and was never destined to stay as he was no better than what we already have.
Gouck, on the other hand, is still an excellent footballer, but he lacks the fitness to play week-in/week-out.

I think the problem Barrow face in attracting new players is their location, but that's always been the case of course. ;)

Tin Monkey 28-04-2004 17:30

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

Oh yes, and if you want new defenders Bluebird, long-serving defenders Dave McKearney and Jamie Murphy are both leaving Christie Park and that's just over the Bay from you lot. :)

KIPAX 28-04-2004 18:18

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

Mullin as far as I know has always been a definite for staying and going full time... Lutel James on the other hand isn't as written in stone... But I doubt he would consider a move to Barrow...Not after what Barrow fans did to him when you played here...

what did the barrow fans do to lutel

What's this about Goucky going to Tamworth?!? I'm appauled

Bluebird 01-05-2004 09:39

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

Yeah what did we do to Lutel?

We apparently tried to sign Morecambes' Murphy a while back so it's quite possible that he'll sign now.

As for our location, it is a slight problem but then the majority of our squad do travel from Middlesbrough and S****horpe.

Gouck is a midfield 'spoiler' isn't he? Gets stuck in and tackles well? Certainly what we need although if fitness is a problem..........................
I'm sure you remember the Barrow fans' complaints about their players fitness not that long ago!

I know what you mean Jimbo, but I can't help feeling that I'd be disappointed if they're our first choice pairing for next season. :unsure8:

Re: Farewell, thou good and faithful servants. . .

I understand (I think). Due to the possible new doors going 'full-time' can open, some would expect to see changes but in the same vein I think these guys can still play a big part for us as full time players - benefit to all concerned. Im just pleased that they have both signed up for next season - 10k from Raccy Boro ??? You KNOW it makes sense - I think they deserve a crack at full time footy - they all do and we all do ;):)
