What next season WILL bring !.
Tonight,I took my crystal ball out !, and when the mists had cleared I was truly amazed at the revelation !
It was September 2008 and there was the FES with 1200 spectators, many queueing for seats in the new stand. Portakabins had gone, and DM's prayers had been answered with the provision of plush new Dressing-Rooms!. The Ultras were still doing their very best, in their own wonderful way to inject some life into 11 players who were obviously not quite up to it!. ( Yet!) Eric was still there sitting in 'the Box' with a benevolent frown on his face. JC was stood on the touchline with his 'I wish I was elsewhere' look ' on his face, still directing a tirade of expletives at the Officials rather than his players! The fickle Main-Standers were still proving to anyone listening that they know very little about this wonderful game of ours, and leaving 10 minutes early !. Potato Pies ( due to Inflation are £2:00 a throw!). and guess what ?....everyone was happy to be there watching LEAGUE Football !. The next vision to appear was our Forum, where, in spite of crticism, we were all still able, whenever we chose, to state our opinions freely ! ( DM included!)...to make very real and pertinent comments on the Stanley scene, to measure our thoughts alongside fellow-fans, and to learn some Soccer wisdom from the more erudite 'posters'!. After putting my ball away (?)....it occurred to me that in spite of the many negatives which have caused the fans no end of upset and consternation over the past Football year at the FES.....the POSITIVE which is ' I am a fan of the Club that would'nt die '.....means that whatever 'change' happens along....we will all want to be a part of it!. In fact it might be true to say that 'wild horses wouldn't keep us away'.In fact it'll be just like every other Season I've known since Peel Park days !!. I've paid for my Season-Ticket..and I just cant wait !!. 'ON STANLEY...ON' to greater things ! |
Re: What next season WILL bring !.
Good on ya, Yonmon. As an exile down south, I'll still be cheering my beloved Stanley from the stands whenever they come within feasible reach next season. Sometimes it feels a bit like steeling yerself to man the trenches rather than be listed as a deserter, but hey - - -. Sandwiched as we are 'tween the two B's, we'll always struggle to get decent gate-money and so are destined to be Football League cinderellas - but eternally we live in hope that an equivalent of the Galbraith era may come our way.
Have a good close season, folks. |
