The Squad so far (23/06/08)

The first team as of today's date is:

Kenny Arthur
Ian Dunbavin
Peter Cavanagh
Leam Richardson
Robbie Williams
Phil Edwards
Colin Murdoch
Jay Bell
Peter Murphy
Ian Craney
Bobby Grant
Andrew Procter
Chris Turner
John Miles (wheyhey)
Paul Mullin
Andy Smith

That's 16 players. Chris King hasn't signed so hasn't been included.

This leaves our strongest line-up as follows:

GK: Arthur

RB: Cavanagh
CB: Murdoch
CB: Edwards
LB: Richardson

DM: Robbie Williams

RM: Miles
CM: Craney
CM: Procter
LM: Grant

ST: Mullin

From that, I see that we desperately need to sign Barry or another defensive midfield player, a first choice right winger and two strikers.

Doesn't look promising really, does it?

I see Paul Carden has joined Cambridge as Player/Coach and we get an undisclosed fee!!

as regards Phil Edwards, is he not on a 2 year contract?

I gather from Today's Times that Rham and Brnmouth will start with 15 pt handicaps each and Lton 25 so don't despair yet.

I think coleys already stated he is going for the 'loan half a team' season. So well just have to wait for a month or so.

I know this applies to another thread, but all the above won't matter diddly squat unless we build or factor in another 800 seats and keep the capacity above 5,000.

Krasner is now speaking ...the transcript is on the asc
Bournemouth Website....here's an interesting bit from it...
I am now speaking personally in my own capacity as to what I believe will happen. I believe that subject to the sixteen point being accepted by the Football League that Bournemouth will start next season with a fifteen point penalty. There will be a number of conditions attached to that in respect of matters the new company will have to deal with.

Take a peek...it makes interesting reading !!

He may not have signed a new deal, but to my knowledge he is still under contract with Stanley.

he is out of contract this month. He has been offered a new contract but has yet to sign it. Could possibly be the same with one or two others as only Kenny Arthur ahs so far accepted any offers - Or so I understand

Are you guys still interested in Darran Kempson? At the end of last season, he walked across to the stand and pulled his finger across his throat, as if he thought he was on the move.

:) isn't it the 1st of july when most players contracts run out,im sure we'l get a better idear in the following days who is signing and who ant,i hope with the fee recieved from cam/utd for PC we may be in a position to tempt Darran Kempson to join us if the shrews except a small fee :)

maccawozzagod 24-06-2008 23:29

Re: The Squad so far (23/06/08)

the Shrews have just bought Grant Holt for £170k so might want every penny! On the plus side they have also secured Michael Jackson from Blackpool (Scunthorpe and Oldham wanted him as well) so Kemps may be a little further down the pecking order again. They may just be willing to clear a wage of their books.

Shrews are beginning to look like they mean business this year so defender who wasn't flavour of the month in a bad team could still be available. Probably means there is a lot riding on whether Phil Edwards signs his new contract or not.

Id Love to see Kempson back.

But at this point it doesnt look to good.

3 season long loans i reckon we will get.

Re: The Squad so far (23/06/08)

A season long loan would solve the problem. I like Kempson personally, but new Managers have their own ideas.

The Shrews have also put in a bid for Rotherham United defender Graham Coughlan.

I read that yesterday and my first thought was "Chester have gone so far as to contact the player and the club, whilst John and Jimmy have had a natter in the pub about it" ..... "He said: “Myself and John have spoken about him and it hasn’t really gone any further than that at the moment."

I thought exactly the same. They'll probably go as far as thinking about contacting Godwin once he's already signed for another club! :D

CONFIRMATION !!!.....

Stanley land King

By Stanley Arms - 01/07/2008 11:36
Accrington Stanley have at last landed the TNS left back Chris King on a free transfer.
The 27 year old has agreed a six month deal, becoming Stanley's second signing of the summer.
King spent six seasons with TNS, in which time he was involved in European ties against Manchester City and Liverpool.
Speaking to Skysports, the player said: "I've had six great and successful years at TNS but I'm at an age where I wanted to test myself in the Football League.
"People have told me I'm good enough and I'm confident I can make the jump from the Welsh Premier League."
So ...Welcome Chris King !!..... hope that you can 'make the jump'....It's a long way UP !!

' ON STANLEY ON !!!!! '

Does anyone know if Stanley have an option to extend the 6 month deal?

the six month deal will be the one that Sean Webb was on (now training with Dundee) where he got a couple of games just before renewal.

BedsRed 02-07-2008 16:56

Re: The Squad so far (23/06/08)

Have to confess that six month contracts worry me. If he plays well enough, we could lose him in the New Year and be back to square one.

Or have the club resigned themselves to our league position being dictated by off the field issues by then and perhaps want to keep the wage bill down?

I don't like to appear bitter and cynical; but I am, so that's how I come accross.

mab 02-07-2008 17:19

Re: The Squad so far (23/06/08)

:) Correct me if im wronge but isn't there 2 or 3 clubs which will start on minus points when the season start :D and there will be some sort of stand built to enable us to stay in the league :)

A Decent striker should be top of any incoming Tranfers:confused:

We struggled from New Year till the End of the Season without a decent foil for Mullin

I assume King will need clearance to play in England - hence delay in official confirmation ? TNS site confirms the signing.

Re: The Squad so far (23/06/08)

Looks like the club think clarke from rovers will be a very valuable loan signing. Coleman apparently met alot of other league managers in ireland, at a meeting last week and the outcome is a few irons in the fire. If we can now forge a better relationship with rovers then we may get some quality players coming over on loan. 3 Argies are on trial next week aswell.

YEA???? Well lets just hope that Ince hasn't read this forum in the last 18months. Mind you, he released Ryan Nelsen to us (NZ U23) for the Olympics and for a day at least he was given HUGE praise on Radio Sport.
