Re: balloon race result
Hate to be a spoiltsport Maccawozzagood, but is a campaign going on to stop balloon races, due to the litter factor and animals dying from swallowing the remnants of these balloons. Listened to a lady the other day on radio where her horse died painfully due to this. Sorry, but you may have to rethink soon.

Re: balloon race result
Whilst not wanting to start an argument, i would just like to point out that the club has acted responsibly to the balloon release and followed the strict guide lines set out by our supplier who is regulated by the rules and regulations of their governing body, a small section of which is:-
Latex balloons are made with 100% natural rubber enabling the balloons to biodegrade completely. The degradation process begins immediately the balloons are inflated and this is accelerated once the balloons are exposed to light. The first signs of the process is visible after one hour when the balloon takes on an opaque or milky look, known as oxidation. The length of the degradation process depends on the exposure to UV light, but according to scientific research the length of this process is approximate the same as a leaf from an oak tree under similar environmental conditions. All balloons must be filled with Helium. Helium balloons are lighter than air and rise naturally - the gas expands causing the balloon to burst into tiny fragments hastening the decomposition process. |

Not arguing Touchline .. just a discussion I heard the other day. All regulations had been followed in all their cases too. Don't think banning will get very far, but you never know. |

and this http://www.mcsuk.org/mcsaction/pollution/balloons and this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7447381.stm It would appear Sainsbury's are more eco friendly and acted more responsibly than the club by cancelling their mass release http://www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk/news/Balloon-release-at-Alnwick-Sainsbury39s.3872430.jp |
Re: balloon race result
what a load of crap!
should we ban satellites cos bits fall off every now and then? should we ban sand blasting buildings cos Doris at no 12 has asthma? and the smell of Curry makes me feel sick ... so should we ban curry houses and asians? ps please don't answer question 3 - it was a sarcastic question only. |

Hopefully now you know the problems caused by ballons you will think of something else next time. |
Re: balloon race result
I still don't see the problem TBH. Its not ignorance either, I just don't think that the occasional balloon race does that much harm.
When the sticky beak brigade manage to get Bonfire night banned then I might accept that the odd horse may accidentally manage to mistake a bit of balloon for a bit of hay and then upon realising its mistake forget to spit it out. Sorry, I think its a bit much that something as ridiculous as a balloon manages to get a rise out of people. |

Re: balloon race result
well I didn't release the first lot so I don't think it would be my decision to release a 2nd lot - ask the club about that. But I won't be pulling up any trees so catch it next time one of my kids lets go of one.

Sainsbury's did themselves a lot of good by going against the decision of their release, and possibly so could Accrington Stanley. |
