ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has revealed the lengths he’s gone to in order to get the best players into his squad.
Coleman, whose side returned to pre-season on Monday, has made two signings so far with experienced Northern Ireland international Colin Murdock joining the club in the summer and fellow defender defender Chris King also comnig on board.
John Mullin, younger brother of striker Paul, is also set for talks, but Coleman is still in the market for new talent after letting 12 players go at the end of the last campaign.
A number of players will also come in on trial this week to give Coleman and his right hand man Jimmy Bell plenty to ponder.
But Coleman revealed that his summer break turned out to be something of a Busman’s holiday.
He said: “I’ve had a break but I’ve spent most of my time talking and thinking about football.
“Gone are the days when you can put it to bed for a couple of weeks. You’ve got to try and keep going and try to get people in.
“We’ve spread our net wide but we’ve had a lot of players coming to us as well. We’ll have quite a few on trial this week and we’ll have a look at them.
“When I was away on holiday, I took in a World Cup qualifier, Mauritius v Cameroon, just to see if there was anyone we could pick up.
“I’m hoping to bring in four or five more players, we certainly need a couple of strikers and there’s moves afoot to sort that.
“I’d also like to bring in a winger and a central midfielder and then that should be us.
“But, I’m sure, come August 9, we’ll have a squad capable of doing ourselves justice in the league.”
Meanwhile, Joe Hinnigan has replaced Ian Liversedge as the club’s physio. Hinnigan had previously been the physio at Shrewsbury Town, and has also played with Wigan, Sunderland, Gillingham and Wrexham.
