Luton town FC
Just seen on bcc sport website Luton to start next season with 30 point deduction could only be one relegation spot to fight over!!!!!!!
|
Re: Luton town FC
Could still go to us if we don't meet the ground requirements. ;)
|
Re: Luton town FC
There's more about Luton's points deduction and about Rotherham and Bournemouth's position on the Football League website: http://www.football-league.co.uk/pag...341988,00.html.

The other ten points was given weeks ago for the issues they had regarding illegal dealings with agents.
|
Re: Luton town FC
I would expect that they will probably run concurrently. A 30 point deduction would pretty much relegate them immediately so would they not tak ethe view that we are down regardless so lets just let 15 kids play? etc etc and for example only. They may as well save on wages and put it towards next seasons Conference campaign

Re: Luton town FC
Well the league table makes interesting reading for you lot. Long way between top and bottom :)

Re: Luton town FC
Got to say, I think Jimmy Bell has put both feet in it in tonights Evening Telegraph. Very crass comments that the club could well do without, especially when you consider what happened to Stanley in 1962. Sorry JB but you made a mistake with those.http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/sp...nts__cushion_/
|
Re: Luton town FC
Couldn't agree more with you OUTBACK..we can think that (having a 'cushion') but to say so publicly?-very immature me thinks. I think Jimmy probably regrets saying it now.
|
Re: Luton town FC
For anyone thinking of buying a season ticket the thought we might need such a cushion might not be the greatest encouragement to pay up hard earned cash.
In any event we need a new stand to stay up ourselves and there is another relegation place. We do not know what if any points deduction Rotherham or Bournemouth may get. Got to say that the obstacles Rotherham look to face before any start to the season look extremely daunting. |
Re: Luton town FC
Whilst Bell is out of order making public his views, I find it hard to have much sympathy for Luton. They've been over-spending for years, trying to achieve successes on the pitch and now they are facing the consequences of doing that. Three administrations in 10 years says it all. Other clubs have had to struggle year in and year out for any success they may or may not have had. What makes Luton so special?

This could be any number of clubs in the FL, including Accrington. Lower league football needs each other to survive the big guns and cronies that make up the top 4 club pact currently driving the game out of recognisable exisitence. I wonder if Jimmy Bell reads this and if he, or the club, would care to re-comment on his comments? I have to echo the previous comment. Re: Luton town FC
Why sack him just becuase of the things he said we all make mistakes its about learning from the mistakes if he does read the forum than he knows he will have to win some the fans support back (not mine becuase i respect him and stuff already) but who else is going to work that well with coley, only signed 2 new players, with one maybe leaving hopefull not as i like him alot, just forget what he said look foward to a good season in league two, getting a higher position than last year scoring more goals, letting in less having a top defence, more singing on the clayton end

Re: Luton town FC
Just a word of caution - what we don't know was how the reporter framed the question and how much of Jimmy's answer got printed. I stopped buying papers nearly 20 years back when I saw concrete evidence of a journalist manipulating an interview with someone to produce a story when there wasn't one there for real.May be Jimmy did respond with the obvious that any clubs with a deduction give the rest a comfort zone.Doesn't mean he likes the League's decision anymore than any true football fan.I hope Luton appeal and it would be nice to see Stanley and others support such appeal.
|
Re: Luton town FC
Accrington Stanley owed money in 1962 and ended up...well we all know how they ended up...but these days clubs like Luton can merely cheat their way into staying alive via administration. It's good to see the FL finally clamping down on this practice.
Although that said, I do also feel for the true Luton fans - after all its not their fault the board cant manage to at least break even, even with a trip to the Kop last season. |
Re: Luton town FC
to be fair to jimmy - liberal journalism could have been used.

Re: Luton town FC
Confirmed today Luton WILL start with a 30 point deduction. 10 wins to get to 0pts.

Re: Luton town FC
as fro the points deduction I thought the 10 point from the FA was very harsh in lieu of the circumstances. I also thought the 20 was ridiculous but hadn't realised that it was their third administration in 10 years. Clubs are going to have to learn to keep their house in order because its unfair on the rest - especially clubs like us that have nothing to even borrow against.

Re: Luton town FC
Is this the same Luton Town that banned away supporters a few years back ?, Is this the
same Luton Town that introduced ID cards for Home fans,?is this the same Luton Town Margaret thatcher held up as the future for all football clubs.?Save your tears you bunch of cissies, they have got of lightley. |

And to be fair 'the Reds' should'nt, and I reckon, will not have to rely on the default of Luton Town, and possibly Rotherham and Bournemouth, to retain their Football League status !. Having acquired the necessary nous and experience from the battles of the last two seasons, the Management and Players should, and I believe will give a better account of themselves in 2008/9. We shouldn't really be too concerned with the problems surrounding other clubs...just with getting behind OUR team, and remembering what they and we stand for!!. 'ON STANLEY ON !!' 'What me worry '...not about Luton Town I dont!! |

Re: Luton town FC
Luton only fills one of the relegation places - lets hope exeter have a stinker and fill the other, as our squad is not the biggest for next season.
4 or 5 injurys and suspensions and we are in trouble. |

I'm starting to get a bit confused now - it must be my age. Am I not correct in thinking that Luton's predicament is irrelevant to us if we fail to make the necessary ground improvements?

No need to be confused Red..It's my biggest worry as well !!...but I don't like keep bringing it up in case the quandary begins to depress everyone!!. Anyway, from his postings, Depechemode appears to have the matter well in hand....so not to worry too much!!. 'What me worry ??'...only because any news about the squad for 2008/9..and those other factors surrounding 'the Reds' which cause us such concern...ISN'T VERY FORTHCOMING !!. |
