New Striker Signs ;)
Extracted From Fishy Site.
Blackburn Rovers centre forward Jamie Clarke has joined Accrington Stanley on loan until the end of 2008. The 19 year old was the top scorer at the club in his first season in the Academy, and although he struggled with injuries in the following seasons he still managed to score six goals in 16 appearances for the Reserves last year. He signed a new one year deal at Ewood last April and made his debut for Stanley against Burnley on Saturday afternoon. Looks Like A Good Addition. |
Re: New Striker Signs ;)
Suffered regularly from injuries. Sounds ominous.
I thought he looked OK on Saturday, but I'd still like to see us sign a striker with more experience. |

A 19 year old playing regularly against experienced League defenders is going to have a very steep learning curve to contend with. |

Re: New Striker Signs ;)
We'll see. There's always an exception to the rule. I'd still like to see another striker, especially if Clark is prone to injury.
That's two signings anyway. According to Radio Lancashire (and Jimmy Bell), John Mullin will miss the start of the season due to a recurrence of his ankle injury. They referred to Mullin as 'a recent signing', but my understanding is that he hasn't actually signed because of his fitness. |
Re: New Striker Signs ;)
Nobody upfront posed a threat against Burnley. Clarke has pace and a few tricks but its too early to say if he's the answer. He needs to play in competitive games in L2. I'd be happier if we had different options so I'm with those who think we need another striker with experience and preferably a bit of presence. We always seam to end up with the midgets

Re: New Striker Signs ;)
I've never thought that we lack a 'presence' up front but the problem has been that the midfielders are not providing the link, Mullin has nobody to give the ball back to and the midfield aren't bringing it forward for number 2 striker

Number of 'Goals for' would confirm this Macca !..but last season's midfield were too busy 'defending' (or being booked!)...and our 'Superstar' didn't appear to want to offer the right kind of backup to Paul and whoever happened to be partnering him on the day !. Maybe a better defence this season will liberate an attack- minded mid-fielder to get into positions where any second and loose balls in the box can be dispatched (I love that word!!) . But what do I know about tactics ? I was going to mention my plea of last season for a good Sports Psychologist to be added to the Coaching staff....but I'd better not or we'll never get that damned Stand!! 'What me worry ?'...I never hear anything much from the extremely Fishy site to cause me any concern.. over to you TM !! |

Re: New Striker Signs ;)
I noticed several occasions on Saturday where he skinned a couple of our experienced full backs, he then either a) Couldn't deliver the final ball or b) Had no support.
I said on Saturday he looked useful, raw talent maybe but given a few league games and a quick goal or 2 the loan arrangment could turn out quite useful for both parties. |

Mullin has had nobody to give the ball back to since D'sane moved on and Craney (who should have a bit of 'presence' or nous) didn't work as an out and out striker. That's why I think we need better options upfront. Remarkably, for the role that he plays and the pounding he gets, Mullers has avoided injury in the last couple of years apart from the odd knock. We do rely on him heavily and if he ever gets a long term injury we could be up wotsit creek. I'm not discounting Clarke. He could turn out to be a revelation, who knows?. 12 goals by January would do nicely. As for midfield, well that's where Craney made his name but lately he's been a shadow of his former self. A big season from him would make all the difference. |
