My grandson was here yesterday and he went round, he was well impressed with the craft lessons. It also means me having to get another DVD as he blagged one off me.

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

Averaging about 500 visitors through the door each week from all around the world. People have signed the book from New Zealand, Cyprus and Australia. I suspect they're over here on holiday with family and so just lucky that they got chance to see it.

What's even better is that people are coming from all across Lancashire to visit it and making particular journeys to do so. I've seen in the book visitors from Blackburn, Oldham, Preston, Manchester and all around.

If you haven't been yet, make the effort. Don't keep saying, 'I'll go next week', you might be busier next week take the time out now because you will kick yourself if you miss it.

This is a mustsee. All credit to the staff and those who have helped in any way.

I did a little bit of filming today and put a short video together.

This is my first attempt at doing this so it's not going to be perfect but it gives a flavour of the exhibition - I hope.

Are the spare DVD's at the exhibition or will I have to order one?

Gayle 09-08-2008 21:41

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

Best to pm Maccawozzagod - he'll sort it out.

I went along to the exhibition and really enjoyed it.

One question, though, what happened to stuff that was donated for the exhibition, but wasn't used? There seemed to be room for more exhibits.

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

It was a bit of tight squeeze to get everything in as it was - we do change it over though so if you come again you see a few different things.

We only have a limited amount of lockable space too and the last thing I want is for someone's priceless piece's to go missing... we have added stuff and as Gayle said we do change things around too

Mentioned this to my brother who is visiting frm South Africa, he said it was closed this morning. That would be because he went to the Town Hall instead of the library, think he will be bobbing down Monday:)

Well worth dropping in, even if you've been before. I went in (for the third time!) on Saturday, just killing time really before I went to meet Cashy and Yonmon, for pre-match drinks in the pub, and I discovered they'd put some new items in the exhibits cases and there was other stuff I hadn't noticed previously. Obviously, when the exhibition finishes a lot of the owners will want their exhibits back, especially the rare stuff, but I really do think that the display panels are just too good to throw away and should be used in some sort of permanent Stanley museum.

Well this is it - THE FINAL DAY

If you've been planning to come down all summer but not made it - this is your last chance.

10am - 4pm
Accrington Library

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

Well thats it folks end of the final day of what has been a brilliant exhibition outcome, we have peaked well over 2000 visitors!!! Other than a few yobbos spoiling it for other children of the borough whom on the whole have enjoyed the various activities hosted. The displays & exhibits have been praised well, definately been worth the hard work:D

Would like to express my sincere thanks to all the exhibition staff, committee & all those people that have contributed in whatever way ie, stories & memorabilia, whom have all ensured that the exhibition has been successful & much appreciated by many many people to see the low & highs of ASFC, the club that wouldnt die!:D

Would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone that has visited us at the exhibition during the past 6 weeks:D

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

Easiest way is to call in to the library tomorrow morning whilst we're taking the exhibition down - after that we'll have to let you know which one of us takes them home.

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

OK, thought it might have been done already, I'm working tomorrow morning I'll collect them soon if you let me know who's taking them

Will do - and thanks for lending us stuff.

What happens now to the stuff that's left behind?...the illustrated display panels charting the club's history, for instance? Far too good to be left gathering dust in some storeroom! Couldn't the club find a place to display them somewhere at the FES?

Well they'll gather dust in my garage for a while but we do hope to use them again.

The plan is to get the community team using them when they go into schools but we haven't got it sorted out yet. There's also talk that Radio Lancs might want us to move the panels down there for a short while too.

So we don't want it to end but we're not 100% sure how it's going to continue.

The exhibition has been fully dismantled today, looking very bare is the library now lol, if anyone has any memorabilia to collect please contact macca, - with exception to KSH & Wobbly whom will have to contact me as i have your memorabilia:D

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

I'll get around you all as soon as I can but,

I broke my arm at the weekend and can't drive at the mo. This means that I have been unable to move the memorabilia to my house in order to put in boxes according to what belongs to whom and then distribute. Please allow me a few days to rectify this.

Once again, to echo what others have said,

thank you to everybody who has worked hard to make the exhibition happen
thank you to everybody who has worked hard keeping the exhibition staffed
thank you to the Heritage Lottery for funding what has been an enjoyable and rewarding project
thank you most importantly to all you guys who visited and for the feedback (99% good but the odd bad) received.

Re: "The club that wouldn't die" exhibition

Just back from my hols

and have to say a MASSIVE thanks to all the work that people put into this exhibition, pulling it together, working throughout it and then helping to take it apart again (sorry I couldn't help at the end!!)

If it wasn't for these few people who have put so much time, dedication and pure hard work into this then we would never have been able to share so many memories, good and bad!!

CHEERS TO YOU ALL
