Re: vs Aldershot

Absolutely dire today. Where is the spark, the touch of magic to get the crowd going? The Shots fans summed it up cruelly with their chant "Football League?. You're having a laugh". Mullin couldn't score in a brothel, Craney had a stinker again, and to cap it all Jimmy brings on Rocky when we are chasing the game. In a game we had to win today to encourage any sort of increasing support we start with Richardson in right midfield! He didn't do too badly but surely we should have had a more out and out attacking line-up, including Fola on from the start? Kenny worries me at free-kicks as he doesn't seem to have the athleticism to deal with the well-aimed strikes, even if, like todays, they are not particularly of the cannonball variety.
Too many of the old guard on show for my likeing.

caretaker 09-08-2008 16:49

Re: vs Aldershot

A disapointing result, I thought the defence played better, Craneys foul for the free kick was idiotic. Mullin was not up to his usual good self. having said that ,there are signs that we did not give the ball away as much as last season and I am opptimistic we can improve. We paid for missed chances in the first half.

Mullin missed sitters.
Craney was awful - no surprise there.
I thought Jamie Clarke had a good game.
Bobby Grant shouldn't be too hard on himself. It's the first game of the season and he's still learning. He's got bags of talent.
There's potential in that team, it seems truncated though due to little confidence and/or bottle.

That free kick went in because of the incompetence of the wall to listen to Kenny. It was definitely not due to a lack of athleticism.

Re: vs Aldershot

I said at the time we made a huge mistake not biting off the hand of someone offering money to take Craney and he proved it today. Stupid tackle cost us the game. Clarke put in some effort but didn't really impress. Grant was non-existant. Mullin showed his age. We started off with one player out of position and that number grew with each substitution. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd have seen Miles start before liam. He's shown a bit of effort in pre-season and he is actually a winger at least. Proccy plodded along as usual but didn't do much. Finally a positive - the defence didn't conceed a goal - Craney stupid tackle on the edge of the box and an inch perfect free kick from it lost us the game, Murdock and Edwards looked solid. Cav played well as did King - especially in the first half. Ridiculous substitutions - last season I was still in support of Coley and Bell but they havn't changed a bloody thing over the summer - same old ****e. Think it's time to look elsewhere.

mullin should of score keeper were already on the floor he could of just chipped it over him or gone round the keeper! ok he was under pressure but thats what he gets paided to do! if he would of scored we would of won the game! i agree grant should not be to hard on himself he showed some good touches, but we didnt give him runs or pass the ball were he can run onto and cross it in! we should stop kicking ball up to mullin and letting clarke play off that! its not clarkes style we need to give him space and run-ons! grant and clarke need to work togther more as they were argueing first half! the defence did very good! cav played top today aswell as edwards and leam! king did ok! ryan did ok when he came on aswell! craney didnt have the best of games but i think he will get better!hope wolves is a better game!

I was so looking forward to the game today but unfortunately came away disappointed, didn't even feel like having more than one half a lager afterwards - just felt really flat, there was no spark in the game. Chris King got MOTM and probably deserved it to be honest but I wouldn't like to have chosen today. Hopefully we can improve from the performance today but if we play like that on Tuesday Wolves are going to totally annihalate us.

If that was a foul, well what can I say, I was level with it and I tell you what, the guy who went down would have won gold at the Beijing olympics.
Otherwise, why on earth did we put out a weakened team. Why leave John Miles on the bench when he played with the league 2 champions last season and was obviously well thought off. Lets stop messing around and playing Liam Richardson out of position. Aldershot were nowt special, but we were worse, which is worrying nay even alarming. Personally, I would not have played Grant today even though he had a decent game. I thought Jamie Clarke was easily beaten at times and as others have said, the strikers could not hit a barn door even when Oli came on. Why on earth was Rockie brought on???? I felt at the end of the game to say one thing only, thanks for 10 years John and Jimmy but it is time to go! I am afraid that is still my feeling. And before any says who would replace them, I do not know the answer to that, but I am sure there is some out of work manager who could come in and do a decent job. Clueless thats all I am saying.

I was going to wish you lot best of luck in your first Home game but it seems the forms still going to be a problem or are they just keeping it back till they play us :hehetable
p.s Don't worry about Paul Mullin (those writing him off) he'll still be in double figures come the end of the season and i'd put money on that ;)

Pendle Red 09-08-2008 19:06

Re: vs Aldershot

I thought first 15-20 minutes we looked good, passed the ball well, after that again we have let a team come to the FES and Boss the game. As others have said a couple of strange substitutions not quite sure the validity in taking off a Striker and replacing with a defender then moving a midfielder up front it didn't work last Season so no reason to believe it would today? I think we may have got away with a point if chances had been put away but they wern't so I suppose we maybe got what our endevour deserved which was "Nowt"

It is still relatively early days and we did look stronger at the back, but we must be more adventurous going forward and try to create chances and hope we can start to convert them, or it is going to be a Long Hard Season:(

I was once again impressed with Chris King looks like a good signing and Cav looked ot be back to his Best
I think Jamie Clarke is still finding his feet and I am sure will prove to be a useful loan signing
Maybe it is time to give John Miles a run out, he should be chomping at the bit and have a point to prove

Yes we would but it didn't happen, no need to fire any bullets Coleman is shooting himself as it appears he has learned nowt from last season.
The football genius sat in the stands watching Stanley losing 1-0 and not much hope of anything happening so what does he think to himself? I need to do something to change the game in our favour, I have a big new guy on the bench who would be looking to impress I could stick him on with Mullin and Clarke and see how it goes. But what does the fallen genius do, takes off Clarke ignores new striker Folawiyo Onbuje and goes back to last seasons failed tactic of Craney (who was crap again today) upfront. Then to top it all he brings on Rocky Williams, a dodgy centre back, in midfield.
Don't put us through much more of this Mr Coleman, last season was enough, you are managing Stanley on a shoestring we know but you haven't got a clue how to use what you have, go now before it's too late.:(

TM !!!...Did you notice that for most of the Game the entire team were absolutely 'FLAT'...and totally lacking in enthuiasm for the all-important task of getting a result..ANY result, from their first Match ?
This absence of Motivation and Application worries me much more than the Footballing skills on show!.
More worrying is the question..'Who can provide those players making up this afternoon's Team with this missing 'Zest' ?'...
'Is it' as Alfred.E. asked me after the Game 'Going to be a long, long Winter ?.

This is the Accrington Stanley forum, banter is fine but it costs nothing to respect who's forum you are on. By all means if Stanley fans go on a Burnley forum and start gobbing off then by all means let fire with both barrels but as this is their forum they are entitled to take the pee out of any other team. If you can't take the flak stay out of the firing line.;)

The legendary David Hargreaves may be a Rovers fan. My other team is Sheffield Wednesday hence the "Home Result". Blackburn always lose if I go there - even against Man City in their 1995 Championship Season.

Re: vs Aldershot

Yes it was flat and the team seemed quite disjointed, but was anyone really surprised? To be fair, we created 3 really good chances and took none of them. How many real saves did Arthur make? Aldershot were cruising it's true, but that's largely because we didn't take our clear chances. You can't blame the manager for a player's inability to be able to cross a ball or to pass to a team mate. The players probably do it all the time in training, but on the pitch on matchday it's up to the players to perform.

I knew we'd struggle to score goals and the writing was on the wall, but calling for the sacking of the management and the return of Miles are just ridiculous. There isn't much to laugh about tonight, but I still managed a chuckle or two.

After a nice bottle of red I'm still not feeling much better about today since my last post. What really gets my goat is having to watch the same sterile brand of football which has got us nowhere in this division - ball pumped up to Mullin who wins a good percentage of headers, but so what? The ball mostly goes nowhere useful. Or, it comes low to him and he does a great job of shielding it with back to goal, but their defence has time to deploy while this goes on and there is no flow to the move. It's like watching Groundhog Day.
We need a big STRIKER up front who has pace, who can run the channels and get around the defence or pull defenders out of position to make openings. I don't know if the new guy can do this although he looked the part against Everton youths, but he can't do it sitting on the bench for 80% of the game.

we played the same game as last year like redraine said just hoof ball up to mullin who is usually getting his shirt tugged and pulled to the ground but the ref just plays on!and see what mullin can do with it! we need to start playing the ball on the ground and build it up pass it around abit push up abit give grant a run down the wing, give clarke a flick on from midfield for him to run round the defence and have a go at the keeper! get the away team running around after the ball! is going to be so hard for away managers to know what are tatics are for this seasonn:rolleyes: i dont agree with the get coleman and jimmy out now i am a big fan of them too and is only the first game the team is still getting toghter on the pitch! we will get better this season!:)

Unfortunately i didn't see anything different today from last season,1st 20 mins not too bad but from then on downhill. The team seemed to have no cohesion, the substitutions left me baffled,i know it's the 1st match of the season but i think it's going to be a uphill struggle.teams used to hate coming to stanley but their managements instructions must be soak up pressure till 5 mins before halftime, then hit them with the sucker punch.Thats when we seem to lose the plot,i hope we can sort out these problems or the teams with points deductions will soon be knocking on our back door.

ACCY TILL DIE AND THEN SOME.....;););););)

So sorry that the hopes which you were so obviously building up were so soundly dashed Wyn...
BUT...The plus side was... the Midget and Hippopotamus episode !!...for which 'the gate estimate Bob' was well and truly deserved!!...and proves what Alfred.E. is alsways saying..'Them as has it (Cashy!)..gets it!!'

But we'e not 'goin down slow'...YET !.

So.. ON STANLEY ON !!

Only two words to describe today, VERY DISAPOINTED, looks like another long weary season ahead.

I see Bury have now signed Andy Morrell from Blackpool. He'd have put away our chances yesterday. ;)

It's a great signing for Bury and if they can keep Bishop as well, that's one hell of a strike partnership. :(

Hmmm,
reading through the comments I seen it a bit different from alot of you.

The pluses -
the defence was alot better organised despite little or no protection from proctor.

Kenny Authur gave the back 4 confidence.

Booby Grant seems to be improving every game and had the confidence to try and take players on - great to see.

Ian Craney when on the ball can find a pass like nobody else in the team.

Jimmy Ryan while being fresh when he came on, showed some good touches on the ball.

Liam Richardson was very useful going forward.

King looked better than expected considering he is stepping up from the Welsh league.

The negatives -
Paul Mullin, despite his usual effort and winning most of the headers, should have put the one on one away.
I would take it as a one off or a lack of match practise.

Andy Proctor was lost for most of the game, his positional sense was poor and often got dragged out wide leaving a gap in front of the back 2.

Jamie Clarke - ok he is young and is still learning, but 2 things are drastically needed for him to make it at league 2 level.
1. his work rate was poor IMO and over shadowed by paul mullin.
2. he donest play to his strengths. He tried to use his strength which he hasnt got instead of using his pace and work rate to voer come the defence. Only once did he make a decent run across the back 4.
This guy reminds me of Chris McGrail - i think he may be going back to blackburn if those type of performances continue.
I also think he lacks confidence, his body language when he had the ball showed him to be nervous, scared of making a mistake and taking a chance.
The best strikers in the world are all about taking risks.

Tactics - and this is the most dissapointing of all. We had no plan B. The williams up front thing was bizarre. Taking richardson off removed a player wo was getting wide and putting crosses in. In fact, the man who richardson went off for Onibuje ended up going wide!
We dont seem to be able to change our play. It makes it very difficult for us to chase a game.

Williams was out of position so its harsh to judge him, and Onibuje didnt have enough time to make a impact, plus it seemed he was carrying an injury.

Overall im not to dissapointed. Certainly some positives at the back and the potential of Bobby Grant and Onibuje. We really need to pick up some new tactics and initiatives. We never really punished Aldershot.
