Please excuse my stupid questions....

...but, I need to ask them!

I am a Derby County fan, but love Accrington Stanley and have always looked for your results.

However there are a couple of questions I have. I've read all about your history, and wondered whether you the fans consider your team to be completely new with a history from 1968, or your history to go back to 1891, or further? Some of the info I've found clearly states that Accrington Stanley is nothing to do with Stanley Villa or Accrington Stanley F.C..

Secondly, who is your "love to hate" opposition? I'm thinking in terms of Derby/Notts Forest and Liverpool/Everton...

And thirdly, I'mcoming up to the exhibition on Tuesday I think, so where abouts is the library?

Thank you, and please forgive my ignorance!

Take it those figures have come from the borough of Blackburn!!! Actually ask a proper stanley fan rather than the dual core, its really annoying constantly being fanbased compared to the prem [atm] & the championship side on either of our border, me thinks the blackburn supporter does take it too seriously!!:D

Our actual rivals would be ones we play football competitively, likes of the Morecambe, Bury & Barrow - maybe a few more!! Not actually bothered about our neighbours issues tbh! Maybe you could leave your teams rivalries in the general footy section as bares no relation to stanley at all!!

Hi Bakewell, welcome aboard, the library is in the centre of town on st James st, nearest pub is the Bees Knees. We're open from 10-4, i shall be about in the library on tues so will be great to see you & hope u enjoy the exhibition.

Stanley to me incorporates its history even tho technically the start back was 40 years ago, so its past leagacy is not forgot & its recent future has also stamped its own historical event of coming out of the ashes to league status once again, where we should be lol.

The exhibition is evented & ran by the official supporters club, so shows that history is part of our club however many times we've had to re-invent ourselves:D

Agree with Stanleymad, although it's quite a friendly rivalry with Bury and Morecambe, the Mighty Barrow on the other hand is a different story. ;)

(Although in strange way I'd like to see them back in the league.)

:rofl38: would make the league a bit more passionate eh lol much more preferable to beat Barrow its like winning the league of its own in the fan event heeehee:hehetable

Don't give a fig about Blackburn and Burnley but we hate Barrow and there's a few teams we love to beat, Morecambe being top of the list.

In regards to the continued club or new club question, I think of us as the same club, the clues in the word REformed, not a new club formed completely. The club seems to share this view seeing as we played Rovers in the centeneray game.

Thanks for your replies- you've been very helpful! I was going to use the word re-formed but was worried that if you did see yourselves as a new club, I would offend you!

Great win yesterday by the way!

wrong i learnt to despise Burnley from me dad in 62, when before he took me to ALL Third Division North Home/Away Games, but you young uns will not be aware of that.:tongueout

There is no rivalry between us and Burnley or Blackburn, not in football terms anyway. We've been at different levels for far too long for that. For a similar reason I don't really see the problem with Barrow nowadays. Clinging onto the Barrow rivalry is a bit like us still seeing Great Harwood or Clitheroe as our rivals.

I think the only real football rivals we have nowadays are Morecambe.

Although you still cant deny a little giggle when a player of such 'immense' stature and greatness as Lee McEvilly scores against em :D

We all have our teams we despise, i learnt to hate the barsteward rovers but yet my father & bro are devouts of theirs:rolleyes: & without a home grown team left in accy back then!! I dont go on forums to constantly bleat about it neither do i want to here as despite my despise i have a level of respect plus you'd lot would get upset after 5 mins besides im well practiced giving the sad supporting family members banter plus gets very boring after 10mins:tongueout, banter fine but constant jibing is gratingly boring!

As this is stanley we have no rivalries with any of u neighbours anyway - we're a league of us own & prefer to give the likes of morecambe, bury or any other league 2 team jip:D

Bakewell Tart, there was a brief moment when Stanley and Derby were rivals! You pipped us at the post for the Third Division North title at the end of the 1957/58 season. Sadly, only one went up in those days or it might have all been different...
