Hope Jamie Clark bags today. His recent performances deserve it. This is the type of game we'd lose last year...so come on Stanley and prove its gonna be a good season!!!!

good win today methinks - well done Reds!

good to see Mullin still hitting the scoresheet and well done to young Jimmy for his first goal.

We played bloody well. Once Clarke hits one in he's going to be scoring every game. Ian who ?

Re: v Macclesfield game thread

Can I also say thanks to all those who upheld the minutes silence - Tom McCloughlin was my great uncle and is sorely missed. Was a brilliant sight all those people keeping the silence well.

tomharding 23-08-2008 17:05

Accrington played darn well. Me and some mates decided we were sick of high ticket prices in the upper leagues so we decided to go see some lower league games - firstly Accrington.

Good job we picked them, they played a solid game, especially during the second half. Was especially impressed with Jamie Clarke.. me and the lads agreed we won't be seeing the last of him.

Overall a good afternoon. Thanks!

Oh and also, we were right behind Mac's keeper to see that dreadful fumble! Oh dear!

We need a good start in the league this season so it will boost are chance of getting in the play-offs.
If we get some more players we could have a chance

Re: v Macclesfield game thread

The defence has looked better in the last couple of games than it has for years. Murdock adds experience to the backline, while Edwards continues to impress me with his reading of the game. King has also made a difference on the left side, and Kenny Arthur gives confidence to the players in front of him.

I'd also like to add earned praise for John Miles today. OK, so he's a luxury player, but he really looked up for it today against his old team. I knew that there had to be something about him and the last two games he's shown that he can play football. Please keep it up!

Special praise should also go to John Mullin and Jimmy Ryan. You'd never know that we'd just lost our star player and although Macclesfield were pretty poor overall, the midfield contributed to stifling their play.

Re: v Macclesfield game thread

It was simply a very good Team Performance!:)

I was very impressed with Jamie Clarke he seems to be growing in confidence and is willing to work the channels and links up well with Mullers. As I have said on previous threads we don't have the biggest of squads, but what we do seem to have is a good blend of experience and youth, it all seems to be gelling very well!

Long May It Continue

Tonight we sit in a Play Off Berth (now who on this forum would have put their head on the block predicticting that two weeks ago?)

Still Early Days but the early signs are looking Good:)

What a funny, familiar, forgotten feeling...to be walking off the Clayton End feeling happy!

Superb second half performance from the chaps...they ran rings round hapless Macc. Really hope that Clarke can score soon, as I'm sure that would boost his confidence and lead to more goals from him.

Very disappointing gate, but if we carry on playing like this, hopefully we can attract more waverers back to the FES.

Re: v Macclesfield game thread

It was lovely today seeing an accrington side play football on the deck (in the second half at least!!!)

Jaime Clarke is looking better and better, when he started to run the channels today Macc didn't have a clue what to do with him.
I also thought John Mullin ran the show today, nice and quietly, even unassuming at times, but the amount of tidying up and neat passing to get us going forward, enabled everyone else to relax and play their football.
Jimmy Ryan grew into the game after a nervous start, and by the time he scored was really enjoying himself on the right side of midfield.
The defense as a whole looked sharp, calm and in control for the majority, something that we haven't seen for a long time.
And then their was a little revalation, John Miles the footballer!!! Previously I have not been a fan of John, but today I found myself shouting encouragement and congratulatory comments in his direction, telling him how well he was playing. I finally saw a bit of what I think we all know he is capable of, and how effective he can be if he's switched on and in the game. Well done Milesy, good game lad!!!!
Well done to Kenny too, for being still awake and ready for action when we needed him towards the end of the game.

All in all a very satisfying performance at home in front of a smallish but very contented (for once!!!) audience. Keep 'em coming lads and we'll soon have more bums on seats (so to speak!!!).

Re: v Macclesfield game thread

anyone know who got mom? Got to agree not seen such good footy from stanley since bradford away last year. the speed of some of the passing was breathtaking at times and that seemed to come from keeping the ball on the deck. we even saw moves starting from a kenny throw to a defender.

Macc may have been poor....who knows??? but they could have been exceptional because they still would not have seen much of the ball in the second half. All round solid performance, Clarke scared the pants off the macc defenders once he found some space, mullin + mullin linked very well, ryan looked to be enjoying it and the defence did not get me worried once (except when rocky came on but he thankfully went into midfield). King has a wonderful first touch, but as said elsewhere my mom was Miles - (!) He showed up all over the pitch, delivered some great set pieces and PUT THE EFFORT IN for the full ninety - take a bow, sir! Maybe the loss of Craney has brought out the best in him (finally)

Wasn't in the least bit bothered about getting my prediction wrong - in fact i only just remembered about that

Jamie Clarke.

Would've given it to John Mullin or Peter Cavanagh myself but Jamie played well.

being marooned down south, this Accrington exile can only follow the bbc text commentary - was beginning to wonder if Eric is paying a 'shots on target' bonus.
Thank you all for giving your personal experience of the game - am I right to be getting enthused about my first 'live' game at Gillingham ?

:)Brill performance can anyone remember the last time we won so meany corners in one game, very good team performance alround,Don't know what JC said to the lads at half time but it worked atreat,i know its early stages yet but if we can maintain this form then you never no what might happen, must say clayton end load and proud :):):):)

Re: v Macclesfield game thread

The next step, surely, is to phase out the long ball out to Mullin. It hasn't worked since Lutel was here and if it wasn't for our second half form we wouldn't have got the points. Let's get that second half form spread over 90 minutes and finally move on tactically.

Re: v Macclesfield game thread

WELL DONE COLEY AND BELL( AND OF COURSE ALL THE BOYS)!!!
If yesterdays performance doesn't get bums on seats then I don't know what will Ok the first half was a bit tentative but the half time team talk was trully inspirational the second half for me was one of the best halves of football I have seen anywhere you can't beat attacking football and of course it also helps when the back four are as solid as they were yesterday!!
Clarke and Mullin superb!! John miles he had three shredded wheat for breakfast a superb performance all of us should be proud of.
Some excellent signings and some promising younger players like Bell, Turner and Grant the futures looking bright and I may have retired from Moaning!!;)

Coleman out! ... to bring a striker on when we are 2-0 up and cruising is unbelivable ... what was he thinking? ;)

Hopefully this will be the start of something good ... onwards and upwards!

I forecast a further improvement for this season.

After the performances at Wolves, Port Vale and in the second half yesterday I am starting to think something even more exciting may be in the offing.
