Great performance tonight and apart from a couple of freekicks, Shrewsbury never had a look in. Miles is a revelation and Gornell's finishing is exactly what we needed.

That's better than I thought (thought it may be a cruciate ligament injury), but obviously still painful. Hopefully he won't be out long then.

tonight was a good performance when we went 2-0 up i had flash backs of the bradford game, we played really good. gornell played very well and took his goal well hope we can have him for rest of season. rocky played well at the back, all the back 4 were strong tonight just what we needed, miles and ryan both played well. and mullin played top. it goes to show how much ian craney still likes the club comeing back to watch when he can. well done ian legend. up to 14th in league now aswell. hopefully another win on saturday.. well done lads tonight keep it up. the last 4mins went on for ages!!!

As one of those who carried Phil off tonight, I do hope he makes a speedy recovery from what I believe is a very deep gash. Stitched on site and sat in the stands into second half. Was limping but not using crutches or any other walking aids. On the flip side of the coin, what a filip - a huge win tonight and special mention to one of my least favourite players, Rocky Williams. He played really well tonight and was solid in the centre and on the right of the defence when Phil went off. OK so they scored one but - Stanley never stopped trying although the Shrews were coming more into it in the 2nd half. Great result now lets do Wycombe on Saturday and make it 3 in a row.

Re: vs Shrewsbury

Fantastic, stirring performance against a team who could have gone top tonight. Every man jack played out of their skins, especially Miles who was absolute dynamite on the left - what were they all on tonight? Rocky looked much happier at right back than in the middle, and we had pace all along the back line, particularly with Charnock who can't half move himself. The Shrews are a very good side, but we matched them. Hope we can build on this good form.

Re: vs Shrewsbury

We played well against a cheating side - they stole 10 yards on every dead ball got what they deserved. Great result glad I came back to watch it :) Can't say I was as impressed with rocky as the rest - made a few mistakes and his mistake almost cost us the game in the last 10 mins - keep him as a squad player but avoid him in the starting line up when we have murdock charnock and edwards to pick from

As yet there is no mention of the fact that just maybe the joint efforts of John Coleman and Jimmy Bell might have had some influence on the much-improved team
performance tonight !.
Am I the only one who is going to direct some verbal
bouquets towards the two of them - and does this defeat of a very good, and extremely competitive (albeit cheating!) Shrewsbury Town eleven at last expunge 'the Bradford City.... OOP'S' from our collective memory ??.
Finally like our photogenic Chairman, I am not usually one for regularly critising or ill-using Match Officials .....BUT what a misguided and seemingly myopic poseur was 'on the whistle' last night. How can one possiby 'respect' inconsistency of this magnitude ?.

Hey Stanley !....let's make it four-in-a-row by continuing the great work against Wycombe Wanderers
AND Morecambe. It's well within your grasp !

Brilliant game last night, although was feeling physically sick for the last 20 minutes or so & keeping everything crossed that the lads would keep it together. John Miles - what can I say - best way to describe his performance is to nick the words of one of the Shrewbury commentators behind us - 'this John Miles is taking the p*** out of us' - magic :)

Re: vs Shrewsbury

Agree with everything that's been said - we played the full 94 minutes, without going off the boil, unlike many occasions in the past. Also, all credit to the Ultras who were excellent, outsinging the sizeable Shrews contingent and really getting behind the lads in the vital last 20 minutes. Just hope more locals can get themselves up to the FES on Saturday! :)

Have to agree with practically all the comments made. A first-class performance for the whole 98 minutes ( 4 extra in the first half ). Well done JC and JB. His fellow Merseysider and former Macclesfield team mate Kevin McIntyre was also very influential last night.

Fellow Clayton Enders may remember him in the immediate aftermath to Macclesfield's equaliser in the crucial last home game of 06/07 which was I think attributed to John Miles rather than him.

I thought we were watching Brazil for the first half last night for some reason :)
Absolute great game last night however was very nervy for the last 5 mins as the shrews piled on the pressure. Where the heck did four minutes come from for extra time!!!??!! Also i disagree with people that thought Rocky had a great and solid game , he had a good 10 minutes and then after that he was all over the place and made quite a few mistakes and one which the shrews captalised on which sent their winger on his way to cross in for their forward to have a good shot on goal and for kenny to make a great save. On crosses he didnt stay with his man, he was always wondering off out of position and the one thing that made me laugh was when it was a corner and he went with Murdock to pick up a player that Murdock already had and Murdock told him to angrily go and pick up the straying man in the box.

Great performance by all , but a special mension to Jimmy Ryan , had a great game. He just makes you get excited with what he does his fitness is top notch. I hope the Shrews are just upset with what theyve lost and the 3 points we outplayed them for last night :D

Also im not one of these rocky haters and think he has put some absolute cracking performances in for stanley through the years and no doubt he has the ability. But last nights game i just thought he was just crap. However i will be singing along with " Robbie Williams , Williams , Robbie Williams" at the next game and hopeing rocky will put a good performance in if he is playing. As long as he is in a red shirt then he should always get support through the good and the bad! :)

Any need for that comment? What have we ever done to your club?

Despite your obvious ineptitude off the pitch (900 home fans, what the hell is that about?), we can have no complaints with the result. We were out battled by an organised, physical side and looked thoroughly ordinary at times.

On a side note, I really, really hope we get promoted as I cannot cope with many more visits to your stadium. Having no roof in this day and age is unacceptable. An awful evening in all respects but best of luck for the season, apart from of course 'FcStanley', upon whom I wish a great deal of misery.

Hey, orange lets move Villa 5 miles from Shrewsbury then move Walsall 5 miles from Shrewsbury. Stick the Shrews in the Vodkat League for 44 years & decrease the size of the town. Then fire bomb the ground & reinstate them at Gay Meadow.

In fact, given the circumstances that Willie Miller has so succinctly described, I would say that our club is anything but inept off the pitch. This is our third season in the football league on average gates of around 1,600. No other club in the country can say that.

As for, the spartan conditions on the Coppice End, don't worry, when you come next year you'll be sitting in the new away fans' stand along the cowshed side. Enjoy! :)

Im glad it was cold for you lot as why would we want to give away fans the luxury of a roof. Id rather put the money for luxury towards stanley or the players then for away fans.

I thought he put their defenders under a lot of pressure when we needed it. He certainly gave a good sub's performance, and was all over the pitch with quite some aggression. Noticed he was back on the near post for their corners too!

Yeh, myself I'd rather go to a decent stadium with excellent facilities alongside 5/6,000 others. Your ground is one of the very few with terracing that has absolutely no character and it was a relief to escape. A feeling shared by all those I encountered on the way home too, I might add.

Hoping an group of opposition supporters (of whom you have no issue) were 'still upset' is just so pathetic its untrue. Really hope I run into you IF we ever visit your hole again.

Sorry we wouldn't , 100% old skool...............:p & I couldn't care 2 hoots about the rest of the clubs in this league, none of you. Fans, grounds, players etc. & isn't it the nerdy 0.1% of a clubs support who pop onto their rivals forum.... You sat in yer undies eating digestives?

Man comes on opposition forum & gets upset with what he reads? You from Barrow originally?

I do have to say though that when i visited Gay Meadow a few seasons ago to watch stanley it was one of my best days out of that season. Enjoyed the people , fans and the ground. Its a shame Shrewsbury lost gay meadow to be honest.

It would be remiss of me not to make some comment on this idiotic and totally useless posting but I, like FCS and Willie Miller, find it intolerable that some inarticulate interloper on our Forum, albeit with a strong taste of Sour Grapes in His/Her mealy mouth, should see fit, in an obviously juvenile fit of pique, to even think of offering any other words than those of total praise for The Reds and their Fans after last nights game.
It was entertaining, there was little or no inter-club aggro, the Pies were tasty (if a little exorbitantly priced !), and as far as I could see, and hear from those 'true' fans of 'he Shrews' with whom I had a conversation after the game,, everyone had a reasonably good night!!.(apart from the occasional Rain!).
It would appear that on this individual's long, and possibly demoralising return to Salop, that he/her has allowed his/her situational depression to get the better of him/her, and this state of mind has ultimately forced him/her into littering our Forum with the ill-mannered tirade we have witnessed here!.
If he reads this then I hope that he will heed a few words of advice....
If you really are a true supporter of Shrewsbury Town,
then do behave in a way that shows some respect for your great Football Club and it's Players, and not like 'one of those' foolish people that the game can well do without!!.

p.s Alfred.E. doesn't think much of your poor grammar either !!...

Re: vs Shrewsbury

However i do and have apologised as i dont wish away fans to have a misserable trip to stanley, maybe the players but for the fans we dont as we need the coppers in and want the fans to come back the following season. It shouldnt matter about the conditions and the ground etc, if you are a true fan you go to watch the football not to inspect the luxury of the place. But we dont have the luxury of a roof and i dont know what Shrewsbury fans expected on a cold tuesday night in Lancashire except from freezing you nackers off.

Great post like usual Yonmon.

What a job John Coleman does at Accy. His achievement in first of all getting them to the league and then keeping them up deserves an award.

taken from the "just got back" thread! also about how we survive on gates with just 800+ hme fans for tht tuesday night game! just goes to show that even other fans credit our manager for the top job he is doing!

Thanks for the link. There are separate threads for Jimmy, Paul and Colin. Generally, the Shrews' fans are complimentary about Accy and seem a decent lot so I'm beginning to feel sorry for them having to stand in the rain all night. :o Don't miss the picture of the green Peruvian shirt on the 'Where in Salop can I get my hands on....... ' thread!

If only some of our own fans realized what job John and Jimmy do!!

These Shrews fans don't seem to know much about footy - reading their board they seem to think we played 4-5-1 o_O

Just like to say what a difference a few young and hungry players make to a team . Great game , love night matches . Every player worked hard and never stopped harrassing . Cant make saturdays match but will be at Morecambe .. Still bit peeved that they wont let me do crossbar challange again , could do with the cash for christmas .

nope....

Re: vs Shrewsbury

I heard Paul Simpson talking about the match on local radio. Apparently, the Shrews made eight mistakes in 55 seconds - resulting in our first goal - the second goal was offside, and John Miles shouldn't have played so well when he's only got one foot....
