FA Cup Opponents
Tranmere Rovers!! Not too bad a home tie I would have thought
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
Maybe we can get our own back for them knocking us out of the Johnstones Paints trophy :)
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
Yer kiddin? Its one of the poorest draws we could have had :(
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
****** - no Gornell I would assume.
Might be without a few of the loan players as well - clubs not wanting them cup tied etc. |
Re: FA Cup Opponents
That's another nightmare tie. Odds massively against us getting further than the 1st round once again and a high possibility of achieving no cup run money for another year. Add to that, it's not going to be an enormous crowd either, and I agree totally with K-P. :(
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
Poor tie - no adventure to a non-league club weve never been before and no big club. The only thing worse would've been Team Bath away.
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
bit of a let down after playing them once already this season, lets hope we can win and call it even then.
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
Oh yea of little faith, whether or not some or none of our loan players play in the tie and whether or not we win lose or draw, it is an extra home tie that both EW and the dynamic duo wanted for kudos and extra revenue. By the time of the match, all being well, the team should name itself - King Kenny, Rocky, Howling Mad Murdoch, John Mullin, Chris King, John Miles, Phil Edwards, Proccy and Jimmy Ryan with a forward line of Paul Mullin and Robert Grant. If Rovers for instance gave us permission to play Royston Griffiths and Jamie Clarke well that would not be bad - thats 2 out of the 4 subs - so we will have to use 2 of the youngsters in the line up and either Bav's or Jamie Speare. We may also have Leam back so what worries have we got. Lets not moan and groan about not having a cup run, that's negative, lets get behind the team and support them come what may. You never know, we may cause a shock!

Re: FA Cup Opponents
Home or away doesn't affect the amount of money we'd make, as gate money is split equally in the FA Cup (plus a cut to the FA). What does affect the income is that the 'home' gate will be substantially lower than an 'away' gate, so I can't see anything to feel positive about with this draw.

of course its possible to win... the thread is about wether its a good draw or not... its not..

Re: FA Cup Opponents
Less a case of Team Bath more a case of Early Bath I fear.
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
Quite looking forward to visiting your gaf. Never been, due to the lack of competitive football we've played against each other.
We'll probarbly bring a 1000+, giving it's the FA Cup and reasonably close. Proper FA Cup tie this, with the chance to stand on a proper terrace again. Roll on 2 weeks... |
Re: FA Cup Opponents
Would have prefered a Home tie against Alferton Town or AFC Wimbledon myself! I just think it would be good to get a few rounds in for a change and pick up some much needed cash. On the subject of 'Home' and 'Away' ties the gate monies may be split but we would be getting (hopefully) more programme sales/food & drink sales etc. But as mentioned earlier lets be positive about this one and knock out a team from a higher division.
:Banane03::Banane03::Banane03::) :) :) |
Re: FA Cup Opponents
If you want the biggest crowd, and therefore the most cash, you'd be looking at Leeds or Leicester away (22,000); anyone fancy going there? Thought not ........
Not a 'romantic' draw, but certainly one we could win, the way we're playing at the moment. I doubt they'll let us play Gornell, which is a real shame, because I really like the lad, but we won't win or lose based just on that. Good draw? Good enough; we're in with a real shout. I agree with mersey-paradise (welcome!); proper F A Cup tie |
Re: FA Cup Opponents
Sorry for the confusion, I want to play teams like Alfreton Town to (hopefully) progress through to the next round and as I stated get some much needed cash (£20'000) !! Sorry again for any confusion.

Re: FA Cup Opponents
we need to win a couple of games and have some sort of run in the cup Kipax. At this moment in time a cup run is the only thing that could possibly generate us some extra fans in the longer term. A trip to Elland Road might attract a few hundred extra Burnley fans onto our coaches but it wouldn't do an awful lot for our longer term prospects. Unless we went there and won.
Tranmere in round 1 Fleetwood in round 2 Huddersfield in round 3 MU round 4 |
Re: FA Cup Opponents
My point exactly. If we just want one decent payday, then fine - Leeds away. For my part, I'd sooner play Leeds in Round 3 or 4, having won £20k for the 1st Round, more for Round 2, and tucked away some decent gate money for a couple of rounds into the bargain.
Who ain't gonna win the FA Cup? Must be our turn any season now .......... |

I don't think this is a crap draw. We're at home in the cup. Every manager wants to be at home in the cup. Opponents are reasonably local so will bring a few fans and they're a team that, given a good effort on the day, we can beat and reach the next round. |

I sat with anticipation... accy came out first..... then tranmere... I didnt even raise a smile.. i didnt jump up and down and certainly wasnt excited.... Did you go to tranmere a couple of weeks ago to watch us play them ??? Tranmere will be faveroutes to win.. i would rather play a team where we are faveroutes... tranmere wont bring a big following... its not a glamour tie and its a hard one to get through... Therefore when the draw was made on sunday it was a crap draw.... hence my sattement its a crap draw is true when you disect it later on and try to make it sound like a good draw... OR if we beat them 1-0 or 10-0 and it then becomes a good draw.... that doesnt change the fact that on sunday when the draw was made....it was far from a good draw hands up everyone who thought it was a good draw the moment tranmeres name came out the bag... go on truthfully.. or hands up everyone who had home to tranmere on there wish list for the draw?? yes we could win.. yes it could turn out good... but it was still a crap draw for us... hopefully it will turn out good.... macca gets it... others get it... just think about it for a bit fingers crossed we win and get through.. not saying we cant win it.. just saying it was a crap draw.. if you thought it was a good draw and you where delighted when there name came out the bag then good for you... i thoguht it was crap.... thats all :) |
Re: FA Cup Opponents
:) A lower league team would have been better for us,Tranmere will be a mountain to climb lets hope we're on top of our game for this one and their on a off day.. anyone know what the cost will be to get in or will it be at normal league match prices ????
|
Re: FA Cup Opponents
I totally agree with Kipax - it was a crap draw. Last season we drew Huddersfield at home in the first round, the gate was 2202 and we had to share this with Huddersfield so we made next to nothing out of the game. The Tranmere game will probably end up the same. How many season ticket holders will miss this game because they have to pay at the gate? There were a few missing last season against Huddersfield. Bradford City are a prime example of missing season ticket holders in the FA Cup. Last season they averaged over 12000 in the league. The tuesday before the FA Cup first round they played Chester at home with an attendance of 13211, on the Saturday they played Chester at home in the FA Cup (all pay), the attendance was 4069. Barrow away would have been a better draw, a bigger gate, more chance of winning and the possibility of being on TV (worth about £75000). The only chance we have of making anything out of the game is to win it. So make sure that everybody turns up, pay their money and get behind the team.

There are worse draws we could hve got when you look at the list of teams in it. More intriguing is if Godwin Antiwi will play in the game. He's on loan to Tranmere until January but its Liverpool's call on whether he can play |
Re: FA Cup Opponents
there are definitely a lot worse draws we could ahve got... i can think of loads of far worse draws..... that doesnt make this a good draw though does it :)
