Pitch Inspection
:( from fishy sight..Pitch
Saturday 10th Jan 2009 http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/ball.gifhttp://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/line.gif Inspection at 10.30am http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/g...darlington.gifUnfortunately lower than expected overnight temperatures have left some frost on the pitch this morning ahead of our game against Darlington at 3pm. The key areas of the pitch have been covered and it is hoped that the game will go ahead as planned. There will be a pitch inspection by the match referee at 10.30am, full details of which will appear here on the website as soon as they are available. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
Lower than expected?? Have you heard of weather forecasts in Accrington? :D
|
Re: Pitch Inspection
Must be very doubtful if the club have asked for an inspection :)
Having seen who the ref is might be better for you if he calls it off and can't do the re-arranged match :D |
Re: Pitch Inspection
This is a disgrace. We all knew it was forecast for -5 last night. Your club has not made every effort to ensure the pitch was fully covered to protect it from ONE hard overnight frost, which we KNEW was coming.
Bunch of amateurs, and with your injuries it probably suits to have it called off. They'll be saying "oh it was warmer the last couple of days and we didn't anticipate the frost last night"....they were planting the seeds for this yesterday because they knew deep down that it would freeze and they could play the "caught out" card....."well how were we supposed to know? we had no frost the previous couple of days...." Shocking behaviour from Stanley. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
:( Not looking good really still freezing over here in clitheroe, must be the same over in accy....
|
Re: Pitch Inspection
i can see this being called of! it was stupid for the club to leave most of the coovers off they knew it were going to be -C yesterday night! if its off than its a joke
|
Re: Pitch Inspection
There is no way your club couldn't have known how cold it was forecast to be and therefore there is no excuse to not take precautions.
This is a stitch up, my opinion is they did not want the game to go ahead. |

Pitch inspection
Saturday 10th Jan 2009 http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/ball.gifhttp://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/line.gif Stanley v Darlington - MATCH OFF http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/g...darlington.gifSanley's match against Darlington this afternoon has been called off due to a frozen pitch. Unfortunately lower than expected overnight temperatures have resulted in a heavy ground frost, and although the temperatures are set to rise through the day there can be no guarantee that the surface would be playable by 3pm. A date and time for the rearranged fixture will be announced shortly. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
Its OFF.
Due to "lower than expected temperatures." Cheaters. The temperature was expected to be -5, it reached -5. What is the e-mail address for your club? |

You do realise this is a game of football and not some life or death situation don't you  |
Re: Pitch Inspection
That is not the point.
The point is you could and should have taken more precautions. The whole "we did not expect this much frost" argument does not wash with me. Its the principle of the matter. You've got a lot of injuries, and replaying at a later date gives you a better chance. Any idiot with half a brain can see through the excuses like glass. Bearing this in mind, I hope we absolutely murder you when the match is played, I'd have taken a draw today. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
another tuesday night match than! if you look at the fixtures we have alot of tuesday night games coming up! will you be comin up quakerz to see your team "absolutely murder us":hidewall:

Re: Pitch Inspection
"What is the e-mail address for your club?"
Not difficult to find. You now have all day to look for it .:tongueout |
Re: Pitch Inspection

We have a few injuries but we have more than enough players thats for sure but MOST importantly we need to be playing home games, in short we need the cash for turn over like every club at our/your level, today i'm sure you would have brought between 500-800 fans thats our lifeline the extra income from away following for the rearranged night game you may bring 300 who knows in these challenging times ?? so we the fans and our Directors are seriously brassed offf the game is postponed. Good luck for the remainder of the season (except when you play us) Gree |
Re: Pitch Inspection
We all knew it was going to be -5 or so last night, so the chances of the game being called off were very high. We even said so last night on here. The club can't claim that it was unexpected. They need to get their story straight.

Perhaps this should have been said to your parents.!!!! |

Re: Pitch Inspection
When I got up at 0740 said the match would be off.
At minus 5 the ground was bound to be frozen for much or all of the day. Covers could only have reduced the incidence of surface frost. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
Sounds like the squad would have been pretty thin though clearly the postponement will do nothing for the coffers:
Accrington Stanley fail to sign in time (From Lancashire Telegraph) |
Re: Pitch Inspection
Portsmouth off for frozen pitch, wonder if the Man City fans will be e-mailing them and accusing them off being incompetant or cheating

We're all disappointed it's off but slagging us off isn't going to change the referee's decision, to be honest I was expecting us to be tubbed today but if thats your attitude then yes I hope the rearranging of this game does work in our favour! |

And yes there are games off all over the country. But then Accrington isn't all over the country is it, Accrington is Accrington. Different places have had different weather and you'll find a lot of these other matches are off because the pitches were already frozen rock solid. HOWEVER, yours had thawed, was not rock solid, and was perfectly playable yesterday. All you had to do was negiotate through one freezing night. I found it incredible that your club were saying "not expecting any problems and the pitch is fine" in view of the forecast for last night. It should have been an absolute no brainer to cover the entire pitch, and the fact that you didn't do this makes me suspicious. Bury's match is on - they covered their pitch. If you had covered your pitch and it had still frozen, we wouldn't be having this conversation. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
troll
nowt better to do than trawl various messageboards fishing |
Re: Pitch Inspection
It really comes down to bad communications from the club... yet again!
Why say "There's no problem with the pitch" yesterday, when it was obvious that it would freeze last night? I'm no weather reader, but even I knew that it would be rock hard today. To add insult to injury, the club then states that is was 'surprised' by the freezing conditions!! |

Re: Pitch Inspection
Well have to say that late last night eric said the whole pitch had been covered and as of yesterday it was soft in all areas and he had been talking to the match ref who was happy as long as it was covered...the early pitch inspection was due to it being colder than expected last night

Although valleys are generally warmer due to lower elevation, hence rain in the valley bottom and snow on the tops in a marginal situation, under still cold air, valley bottoms are 99% of the time colder than higher up, overnight. Valley bottoms record colder minimums. Why? Because of katabatic cooling. Cold air sinks to valley bottoms. Darwen in a valley bottom will have been colder than much of the surrounding area last night. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
For God's sake, how come there is only you from your entire fanbase taking so much umbrage from the fact this game is off? Ok, Bury's game is on but it's one of only 3 league 2 fixtures which has survived the weather - doesn't that tell you something?
Blackpool is about the same distance away from us as Bury - their game is also off and the coast is usually about 5 degrees warmer at any given time, the fact that one club relatively near to us have their game on is irrelevant - ours is OFF - live with it! Or do you really have nothing better to do with your afternoon than come on here arguing the toss? Grow up! |
Re: Pitch Inspection
Is that you Micheal Fish?:?
There isn't any air around the Anchor Ground, due to the fact its hemmed in by the motorway and crown paints. Its contantly 19degrees centagrade because of the pollution don't thee know?????:D |

Pub Anyone?

Re: Pitch Inspection

Anyway, rant over. even if you had covered the whole pitch, it might not have survived -5 anyway. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
Thanks for the common sense answer Quakerz! We are all annoyed its off but it is, just watch Soccer Saturday, its a great laugh and will help us through the day!!!
See you(hopefully) when its re-arranged,and I will buy you a pint in The Crown to make up for today. |
Re: Pitch Inspection
OFF OFF OFF
Only Bury & Halifax survived!! :-( |
Re: Pitch Inspection
Usual scenario will apply though, as the pitch will be perfectly playable by 3.00 pm with the thawing wind!

Alan Knill was quoted in the News of the World today saying that the Bury game should never have kicked off, the quote finished with something along the lines of "all the other games around us being off should have told us something"

Fixture now rearranged for Tues 20th Jan (fishy site). This now means we have three league 2 home games in a week

I see Darlo's match was off yesterday (frozen pitch). How could they NOT have known the pitch would freeze? Have they no covers? What is the email for their club? |
