Inspection at 10.30am
http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/g...darlington.gif
Unfortunately lower than expected overnight temperatures have left some frost on the pitch this morning ahead of our game against Darlington at 3pm.

The key areas of the pitch have been covered and it is hoped that the game will go ahead as planned.

There will be a pitch inspection by the match referee at 10.30am, full details of which will appear here on the website as soon as they are available.

Lower than expected?? Have you heard of weather forecasts in Accrington? :D

Re: Pitch Inspection

Must be very doubtful if the club have asked for an inspection :)

Having seen who the ref is might be better for you if he calls it off and can't do the re-arranged match :D

Quakerz 10-01-2009 09:01

Re: Pitch Inspection

This is a disgrace. We all knew it was forecast for -5 last night. Your club has not made every effort to ensure the pitch was fully covered to protect it from ONE hard overnight frost, which we KNEW was coming.

Bunch of amateurs, and with your injuries it probably suits to have it called off.

They'll be saying "oh it was warmer the last couple of days and we didn't anticipate the frost last night"....they were planting the seeds for this yesterday because they knew deep down that it would freeze and they could play the "caught out" card....."well how were we supposed to know? we had no frost the previous couple of days...."

Shocking behaviour from Stanley.

i can see this being called of! it was stupid for the club to leave most of the coovers off they knew it were going to be -C yesterday night! if its off than its a joke

Quakerz 10-01-2009 09:12

Re: Pitch Inspection

There is no way your club couldn't have known how cold it was forecast to be and therefore there is no excuse to not take precautions.

This is a stitch up, my opinion is they did not want the game to go ahead.

Stanley v Darlington - MATCH OFF
http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/g...darlington.gif
Sanley's match against Darlington this afternoon has been called off due to a frozen pitch.

Unfortunately lower than expected overnight temperatures have resulted in a heavy ground frost, and although the temperatures are set to rise through the day there can be no guarantee that the surface would be playable by 3pm.

A date and time for the rearranged fixture will be announced shortly.

That is not the point.

The point is you could and should have taken more precautions.

The whole "we did not expect this much frost" argument does not wash with me.

Its the principle of the matter.

You've got a lot of injuries, and replaying at a later date gives you a better chance. Any idiot with half a brain can see through the excuses like glass.

Bearing this in mind, I hope we absolutely murder you when the match is played, I'd have taken a draw today.

Quakerz... Calm down please !! yes we have badly misjudged the weather no doubt about that and i can understand your dissapointment.

We have a few injuries but we have more than enough players thats for sure but MOST importantly we need to be playing home games, in short we need the cash for turn over like every club at our/your level, today i'm sure you would have brought between 500-800 fans thats our lifeline the extra income from away following for the rearranged night game you may bring 300 who knows in these challenging times ?? so we the fans and our Directors are seriously brassed offf the game is postponed.

Good luck for the remainder of the season (except when you play us)

Gree

We all knew it was going to be -5 or so last night, so the chances of the game being called off were very high. We even said so last night on here. The club can't claim that it was unexpected. They need to get their story straight.

When I got up at 0740 said the match would be off.

At minus 5 the ground was bound to be frozen for much or all of the day. Covers could only have reduced the incidence of surface frost.

Bit of an over reaction don't you think -it's not as if we called it after your lot had set off for the game and as someone else has said it would've been better for us to play today rather than on a Tuesday night as it will probably now be, as no doubt not as many away fans will be able to attend a midweek match.
We're all disappointed it's off but slagging us off isn't going to change the referee's decision, to be honest I was expecting us to be tubbed today but if thats your attitude then yes I hope the rearranging of this game does work in our favour!

No its freezing here.

And yes there are games off all over the country. But then Accrington isn't all over the country is it, Accrington is Accrington. Different places have had different weather and you'll find a lot of these other matches are off because the pitches were already frozen rock solid.

HOWEVER, yours had thawed, was not rock solid, and was perfectly playable yesterday. All you had to do was negiotate through one freezing night. I found it incredible that your club were saying "not expecting any problems and the pitch is fine" in view of the forecast for last night.

It should have been an absolute no brainer to cover the entire pitch, and the fact that you didn't do this makes me suspicious.

Bury's match is on - they covered their pitch.

If you had covered your pitch and it had still frozen, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Why say "There's no problem with the pitch" yesterday, when it was obvious that it would freeze last night? I'm no weather reader, but even I knew that it would be rock hard today. To add insult to injury, the club then states that is was 'surprised' by the freezing conditions!!

The Anchor Ground and most of Darwen is in a valley and is quite low down.

If you set off now you'll make the Kick Off ;)

Whilst the DALR is 1º for every 500ft in altitude, thus meaning its colder higher up, this does not count overnight under a stagnant pool of cold air.

Although valleys are generally warmer due to lower elevation, hence rain in the valley bottom and snow on the tops in a marginal situation, under still cold air, valley bottoms are 99% of the time colder than higher up, overnight. Valley bottoms record colder minimums. Why? Because of katabatic cooling.

Cold air sinks to valley bottoms.

Darwen in a valley bottom will have been colder than much of the surrounding area last night.

Blackpool is about the same distance away from us as Bury - their game is also off and the coast is usually about 5 degrees warmer at any given time, the fact that one club relatively near to us have their game on is irrelevant - ours is OFF - live with it!

I know what you mean having done just that and wasted a 300 mile round trip, but that is football at this level. I jokingly said to Rob Heys that they had the game postponed because we have no players but in reality we all know that we would have been better to have played today with what we have and lost but got a decent crowd than play on a weeknight with a lot less in the crowd because we won't have any world class players coming in in this transfer window. To suggest that Stanley wanted this game off is totally delusional and anyone who thinks so is totally paranoid. The only consolation, other than a day on the bevvy in accy, was the guys over from Norway in the Crown had a longer journey than me:)

To suggest that Stanley wanted this game off is totally delusional and anyone who thinks so is totally paranoid. The only consolation, other than a day on the bevvy in accy, was the guys over from Norway in the Crown had a longer journey than me:)

I think there was only one numpty form the North East who thought Stanley wanted the game of, Mind you the pools panel did give the game an away win, but what do they know:hehetable

Alan Knill was quoted in the News of the World today saying that the Bury game should never have kicked off, the quote finished with something along the lines of "all the other games around us being off should have told us something"

This is a stitch up, my opinion is they did not want the game to go ahead.

I see Darlo's match was off yesterday (frozen pitch). How could they NOT have known the pitch would freeze? Have they no covers? What is the email for their club?
