I've been reading this forum for 5+ yrs now and noticed quite a few people who have some type of connection with North of the border.

Just wondering how many Stanley fans live in Glasgow.

I'll start off, i can count as 1.

Not sure if I can technically count as a true fan as yet having never even been to their ground, but weather permitting that will be rectified in a few weeks. Or the fact that I also happen to check the score of their rivals every Saturday too!

I've actually recently moved out Lanarkshire way, but I still consider myself a Kirkintilloch boy, which obviously comes with a G postcode. Will move back out there one day. Either way, put me down as the second one on this list. Will be interesting to see if there are more.

I moved up to Glasgow from London, and lived there for three years, starting in 2001, before moving back to Ossy.

Love the whole city, although I was a West Ender.

Lived in Kirkintilloch for twelve months many moons ago. My daughter was born up there as well.

I worked in Glasgow quite a lot in the 70s, stayed in Bellshill, Cambuslang(don't think that's spelt right) Wishaw and Benning Road down the bottom of Socky Hall Street ( help me with the spelling here you Scots) some great nights out even in those days when he pubs closed at 10pm and only hotels opened on Sundays

Bernadette: truly bizarre - didn't think I'd ever come across anyone with affiliations to Kirky on this board! My parents still live there so I'm still a regular visitor. Maybe with a promotion or two I'll head back there myself - my wife is even more keen on the idea than I am even tho she wasn't brought up there.

Mr Matthew/Spuggie J - sports cafe idea seems like a winner to me.

My sister-in-law from first marriage is still living just over the canal bridge and to the right (Hillhead Road way) memory is going now. As I say it is many moons ago, is the Red Brae still open? they were barmy in there years ago can't imagine it will have improved any over the years:eek:

Parents are 10 mins walk from there - Bridgeway (Oxgang). Head down the hill from Red Brae pub and its very near Oxgang school. I avoid that pub due to its questionable reputation. Kirky has changed a lot in last 15 years - lots of new houses and a few new roads. Building a major new road at the mo which will take a couple of years to complete but will make a huge difference.

Nickelson - come along, bizarrely I'm a season ticket holder at Clyde so I'm in Cumbernauld every other week - and used to love in a town 5 mins from there.

Should be a great night!

Okay I'm hearing from a couple of different people that the sports bar on Sauchiehall Street closed last month and that the other sports bar is closed too. Not good.

We may have to come up with a last minute plan for elsewhere - I hear The Hall on Sauchiehall St has a big screen but apparently its a very studenty place, Europa next to Queen Street has several tv's from memory, or we could just go to a regular bar that will have the game on.

Well as far as I know it was open this Saturday, and I know that Europa has shut down. I'll phone around 2nite to see where it will be on because a lot of places will be showing the Spurs game.

Is the "Sally Ann" still open on London road Colmeister? I stayed there a few times in the early 70's when we oiled up the far East boats in GK5 dock.
The place was a scream, I even saw one bloke slagging off an empty chair because it had made him forget his carrier bag.
That was in the days when 10PM was closing time.
One pub near The Cross rang a fire bell at 9.55 and that cleared the place because it was inside near the bar and very noisy. At 10PM the shutters were up over the windows and all the alkies were laid in the gutter.

If you are in concrete town just get the train into Queen Street Station. We could all meet up there.

As we will be in the colours we will be easy to spot.

I live less than 50yrds from Queen St station, so that sounds perfect. Just phoned up Walkabout and they are showing the game, so have booked a booth at 7ish and checked it's ok to were Accrington shirts so it's on!!! Can't wait, come on Stanley

Gremlin - Can honestly say I've never even heard of the Sally Ann. Tried a couple of google searches to see if it was still open but nothing doing, so I'm guessing it must be shut. As it was open in the 70's, and since I'm at my parents tomorrow (not trying to make you feel old here, honest), I'll ask them about it. Incidentally, outstanding story about the empty chair - certainly seems like a typical Glasgow pub! ;-)


Re Wed night, meeting at Queen St might not be a bad idea - though I have to confess I'll be letting the side down as I dont as yet own an Accy top - this will of course be rectified in due course as I'm planning on going to a couple of games again this season. Will bring my scarf though!

Shillelagh - I'll take good care of him. Well, that is of course until I've had my first few pints - after that I'm afraid I can't make any promises! I'm now living a half hour outside of Glasgow (out in Lanarkshire) so I'm more concerned with ensuring I don't miss my last train home. (It's been missed before!)

Great, another one going! (I met a Scottish guy at last Accy game I was at - will be interesting to see if its one of the ones going tonight).

Incidentally can I take this oppportunity to thank Rob (Macca) who, upon reading my post about not having a Stanley shirt, kindly sent one up next day delivery and it arrived at my work a few minutes ago! Top man, and can't thank him enough. Drinks are defo on me at New Year game mate.

Yeah it was a good night, fell asleep on bus home after and almost missed my stop mind you ! Cheers Mr Matthew for sorting it all out. Shame they decieded that a game involving some cockneys should have the sound playing, so we missed all the noise generated on the clayton end. Nice to put some faces to names.

BEEN A LONG DAY. Was worth it though and no ribbing either. Those at work reckoned we were very unlucky. One question I was asked was"Can they play like that for the rest of the season?" I hope they can.
