Lancashire Rivals

Hi fellas,

I've been asked to help out with a new website called LancashireRivals which is a forum dedicated to banter between Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley, Blackpool, Preston, Morecambe & Accrington fans.

The site is literally a couple of days old so we are looking to encourage new members to join. We are also of course looking for a variety of admin and moderators from all clubs.

If the editor of this site wants their own link on our website just let me know.

Hope this message is ok, any questions just ask. Cheers.

wigan 20 miles from m/c approx, bolton 17 miles approx, rochdale 14 miles.bury 12 miles. How could anyone some years ago annexe these cities to make them greater manchester,i'm South African and even a numbnuts like me knows they will always be lancashire to the people from these cities.I have a mate who goes balistic when someone says they are from manchester and when asked where they were born say Wigan or Bolton, rochdale, bury etc. He's from ancoats and a true manc who supports man city, sad i know but the saying is that a true mancunian is a city fan.How would we in accy and burnley feel if we were classed as greater Blackburn, perish the thought lol.

As a after thought i asked Grimps where wigan was,he consulted his sat nav and set off and duely ended up in salford. The moral of this story is that you should never trust Grimps to get you to a match on time.lo

Being that I live in the afore mentioned Wigan, I take great delight in telling them that they are Mancs or worse still closet scousers (they hate that even more). But when all is said and done, there are 6 Lancashire league teams - Blackburn, Burnley, Preston, Blackpool, Morecambe and the best of all Accrington Stanley. Nuff said

:hehetable :tongueout

It will NEVER happen - Accrington will take in the Rossendale valley and possibly the Ribble Valley, Burnley will take in Pendle and Nelson/Colne and all points east

:alright:

I think that you will find there are 15 Lancashire clubs in the League/Premiership:

Bury/Rochdale/Oldham/Wigan/Burnley/Blackburn/t'Stanley/Morecambe/Blackpool/t'North End/Man Utd/Liverpool/Everton/Man City/Bolton

I hope i'm wrong and have missed some out. No other county has as many. No other county has as many in the Premiership. Lancashire Leads.

Times are hard, poaching is not paying very well these days. :D

QPR must be sick, knocked out by a goal 30 seconds from the end of injury time and a share of the gate after expenses, which probably amounts to about £2.30p per club. At least we get £75k for winning it. :)

The quote at the bottom of the website says it all, it is correct when it states we live in Lancashire, but Greater Manchester, Merseyside et al are not part of Lancashire and haven't been for a long time (1972 if memory serves me correctly). Ask the residents of Southport, They want to come back, they hate being classed as scousers, they are too dignified for that hee hee.

I am from Lancashire and was born in Radcliffe and support Bury and yes in my mind we are Lancashire!

Re: Lancashire Rivals

Let's get this reyt.
Lancashire is the same size as it has always been. For some administrative purposes, the 'counties' of Greater manchester, Merseyside and Cumbria were created in 1974 and parts of the Red Rose county were then administered by those bodies. In 1989, Maggie dissolved Greater Manchester & Merseyside when she dissolved Greater London.Certain metropolian boroughs, called unitary authorities, were created ( and later Blackburn & Blackpool joined them ) The fact that they administer themselves or , as in the case of
the Lonsdale area of Lancashire are administered by Cumbria CC, does not take away the fact that these towns such as Wigan, Southport) are still, and always will be, in Lancashire.

Google 'Friends of Real Lancashire'

Red Rose - I applaud you.

I quote you the opening verse of a dialect poem , 'A Lancashire Mon' written by a
Blackburn chap, Henry Yates a hundred years ago:

Ah wer born among th'ills, but Ah'm Lanky
There's no hafe an'hafe abeawt me
It's deawn in mi Granny's owd Bible
-Both sides of a long pedigree.
Ah've no need to simper and' sidle,
Nor finnicky airs to put on-
Ah belong to th'owd palatine ceawnty
Ah'm a streytforrad Lancashire mon.

It goes on to tell the world how bloody good it is to be a Lancastrian
