Work started on Seats - PICS

Work has now started with concrete being moved from one end of the ground to the other by our ever hard working groundsman Buzzer! Concrete being set in the cow shed ..

I will be going to the ground on a regular basis as I did wiht the new roof and uploading photographs same day.

To see the pics go through the gallery on the fishy website :)

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

We're only having 3 rows of seats in front of the standing area.

since when did any stanley fan care how our ground looks?
do what we have to do to keep the FA happy and we can move onwards and upwards.

Depressing seeing the Love Street Stands being stripped of their seats.

Reminds me of the picture of Peel Park on the front cover of Phil Whalley's book. All it needs is a St Mirren fan sat there with his head in his hands.

I'd stop work on the seats now. 7 points clear on the relegation zone and some tough games coming up, maybe we should hang on a couple of weeks before splashing out any more money?

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

Theres less than 8 week to the non flexi deadline.. work hasnt started on clayton end... anyone know how long the job will actually take... someone told me the concrete takes 4-6 weeks to set to the requirements to be able to use for this purpose... BUT and I emphasis BUT that could be a load of tosh.

cashman 04-03-2009 09:06

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

don't really know K-P but my money would be on "Load Of Tosh" on the basis, when they do concreting on building sites, no way they have ever waited anywhere near that long to continue.:)

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

your right.. i drive past a plot one week and litrally a month later theres a house on it... seriously.

If you put some row-bolts into the concrete too soon, when you tighten the bolt it will fracture the concrete. (Similar to putting a nail too close to the edge on a piece of wood. ) The bolts to hold the seats are only small so they will not have as long to wait for curing.
4 weeks is the maximum, about a week in decent weather will probably be enough.
By the time they have finished the concreting, the first lot should have cured enough to drill.
Building a wall on concrete is a different matter as the load is spread across the top in a downward force. Bolting exherts the stresses from inside to the outside forcing the concrete to split.

I was down there this aft and nothing to photograph as not much happened since friday.

Redash i presume you know your stuff..You sound like you do... If deadline day is May 1st and we havent even started on clayton end then arn't we pushing it a bit tight?

Sorry just me getting worried :(

will the Clayton End be closed for any length of time? or will they just tape off the entire first row leaving only the walkways?

On the season ticket form it shows two prices for the Clayton end, seating and standing.
How they going to seperate them?

On the application form it mentions about people having seat numbers for the season..

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

Yeah, if you buy a "seated ticket"
What I'm getting at is, if you buy a ticket for the Clayton end you can't get into the main stand to sit down, next season though you will be able to get to the seated area in the Clayton end, don't think many will want too :) but if you did how they gonna separate the seated from the standing?
They will have to leave the steps there for us to use, one entance/exit at the end won't be enough I'm sure

Not worried at all :)
Eric will though, be £24 lost :)
Just filling the form out and wondered how they were going to go about it

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

My theory is this - all the turnstiles at the back of the Clayton End will be for standing supporters only. Once you go through them, you'll have to turn left and go round onto the terraces via the Clayton End/Whinney Hill corner. The way round onto the terraces to the right will be gated off. The few seated patrons on the Clayton End will have their own turnstile - the one at the corner of the John Smiths/Clayton End that's never used (last time I remember it being used was for the Bournemouth cup match). They'll be able to go through there and straight onto the lower Clayton End (which will be gated off from the upper Clayton End). Seated Clayton End patrons will have access to the toilets and refreshment bar on the seated stand side. At the end of the match, all the gates will be opened, so people can leave in the normal way. A heck of a lot of faffing around to meet a stupid FL requirement!

K.S.H 04-03-2009 21:25

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

Surely the'll have to gate the steps as well (either side of goal) entrance/exit on each end isn't enough, especially for emergency exit

Wynonie Harris 04-03-2009 21:30

Re: Work started on Seats - PICS

Yeah, would think so. It's probably nothing like what they're really going to do...just a theory of mine! ;)

I'd like to see this turnstile used every week for season ticket holders now.

I cant see it all being done between matches and theres no way tape would be used to keep fans in one position..

Cant see a problem myself, be it a barrier or a piece of 8X4 plywood, either way you stand behind it. Leave the steps open, have a steward there to stop you using them except in an emergency, entrance and exit from both ends of the stand which we do anyway, just that some walk along the front to get there

Two new pics added.. there hasnt been a lot done since last time hence lack of pics.. When works starts proper i will photograph it daily to record..

Six and a half weeks to go and I am told that first of may is a rock solid written in stone deadline... But it looks like I am the only one worried about the timescale so....

Perhaps they've taken my advice and they're waiting to see what happens over the next couple of games? If we're BSP bound, then we wouldn't need the seats. ;)
