I know a few booked into B&Bs for the game... I don't know why they coudn't do a 4 hour round trip in one evening, but still I'll bet they're miffed.

Pathetic!
Today's rain could hardly have registered on the gauges - what's going on FFS??

Bagpuss 03-03-2009 18:50

Re: Tonight vs the Vale

Russell had a bet on the game being postponed.

says n area of standing water in one penalty area on the site,so ref had no option. thats the site that is usually very late with info.

Re: Tonight vs the Vale

I was going to have to miss it, as I didn't finish work until 7.00, so I reckon I'm the only one happy with the situation, as now at least, I'll get a chance to see it. Reckon there'll be even less Vale fans there for the rearranged match, though.

drove 4 hours up to the FES, got as far as warrington when a friend watching SSN to inform me it was off.

How many games is that postponed this season, have lost count.

Re: Tonight vs the Vale

Having seen who the ref was then think yourselves lucky. There are two real clowns reffing in the football league, ironically tonight you had one and we have the other

Which clown were we going to be saddles with tonight then Dave?

150 mile round trip for a sandwich from the Shell garage, night well spent! Saw a coach load of Vale fans leaving as I arrived, they didn't look best pleased. Any idea when the re arrangement is likely to be? Hoping I can make the return trip if work permits... Surely they could've managed an earlier inspection, or at least put a warning on the website that it was a possibility?

got the T-Shirt fer such things, says on website, heavy rainfall late afternoon caused it. which is not wrong it was late before rain of any substance hit accy. just put it down to- "Lifes A Bitch":)

Re: Tonight vs the Vale

Mixed bag of results down at the bottom tonight. Luton look doomed now, good to see Grimsby and Chester losing, Barnet's draw not so good, but the big news is Bournemouth moving out of the bottom two. Reckon it'll be Luton and either Grimsby or Chester for the drop.

Sorry fella, but there really is no need!

His family has done more for ASFC than anyone. Had it not been for Mr & Mrs Whalley & his family many on this forum would still be supporting Liverpool, Preston, Blackburn or even Eastwood Town.

IMHO

Graham Laws was the ref. At least we managed to overcome the clown at ours :)

Russell is a dick, don't put him in the same bracket as Eric for helping Stanley, Russells behaviour actually stops some fans from drinking in the clubhouse.:(

Damn! That's what comes of switching off before the final whistle. Still think Grimsby or Chester will take the other relegation spot.

Reamer 04-03-2009 12:07

Re: Tonight vs the Vale

John Coleman reckons the ref should have waited longer before calling off last night's game. I can't see how he sees it like that if you have standing water in a main area of the pitch and the ball doesn't roll or bounce. From a safety, and even, entertainment point of view I think the ref got it right with less thsn an hour to go before kick off.

You missed out the next bit where coley said he thought groundsman could have worked on it as the rain stopped..

would agree with reamer on that score.

Good to see the club speak as one voice on the matter. Rob Heys said the referee waited as long as possible and made the correct decision

Re: Tonight vs the Vale

Got to say, having been there - the rain was relentless and it wasn't just the penalty area that was affected, it was from the centre circle to the coppice end. Like a river flowing down the ground. 3 people were working on the pitch whilst the ref was inspecting it and to no avail. NO one can moan that they weren't trying or that they were amateurs, they worked their butts off trying to get the match on. Port Vale players actually wanted to play, but the ref said no. Trouble was, after everyone left the area, it stopped raining - typical.

Re: Tonight vs the Vale

It was still raining when I left at 7.15 and the pic in todays telegraph I took of mick locking the gates at 10 past 7
