Ten years - Testimonial ?
John Coleman and Jimmy Bell will celebrate 10 yrs in charge at Accrington Stanley in "I think" June of this year. It doesn't matter a jot what you think of the management team or anything that is happening now. No stanley fan alive can deny what the pair have done for this club.
For the critics this is not about support.. this is about recognition. Left to the club it will be a poxy presentation at the end of season do. Well i think they deserve more.. A lot more.. Do you? Something on the scale that only the club could organise. So its up to us the fans to make them aware of how we feel. 1) Testimonial match .. 2) Sportmans dinner to celebrate there achievements with invitations to other league managers to speak. 3) Both the above? 4) ????? |
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
Both the options sound ok to me. end of the day these 2 have worked miracles with sod all, i never thought i would live to see Stanley in the league again.:)
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
Agree 100%. I would like to see a fitting tribute to the "miracle workers"!
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
A testimonial match would be good as it would be open to everyone to go, whereas a Sportsmans' Dinner would probably only be available to our male supporters as the last proposed one was.
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
I may have used the wrong word with "sportsmans" dinner.. Male only is certainly not what I meant :) But your right on the other point..,. Testimonial gives more people the opportunity.... so dinner? would either be as well or not at all...
After all a testimonial is the right way of doing this isnt it. I have fired off an email to all the big guns at stanley for a response :) |

Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
OK August .. PERFECT to combine pre season + testmonial and as its 5 mths away then no excuses re time... and I imagine these things need organising in advance so all the better
TESTIMONIAL - AUGUST .. Yes? |

Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
KP and all!!
Unfortunately to "protect" the taxation status of any sports testimonial the official club cannot be involved. The only thing a club can do is allow the ground to be used FOC, with the testimonial committee paying the bills. Normally people waive their fee/wages to help towards the cause. I was on Wilf McGuiness's Bury testimonial committee and the club officials were given this advice then, they can help in the background, but cannot organise. During last summer brief discussions were held by Coley and Jimmy to set things in motion. If you want to help, speak to the directly, I'm sure they'd welcome any help!!:) |
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
I am soon approaching my second 10 yrs with my employers,as the first ten went unnoticed, I presume the second ten will do also.Football obviously works differently,if I am still there after 25 yrs,I think I might get a celebratory meal at Head Office!!
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
Paul Mullin mentioned to me that it is testimonial this coming season as well (good that he mentioned it cos he obviously doesn't plan on going anywhere). He said that he will be having a 'committee' so there has obviously been some kind of planning going on by the three of them.
I reckon they should all pitch in together (one big testimonial season) and have a series of events lined up. Merchandise as well!!! |

Again KP it's up to Coley and Jimmy and their "helpers" to pass info on NOT the club!! What's in motion I'm not 100% sure, I was asked to sit in on a meeting last summer, I've heard nothing since. Perhaps somthing Macca, the OSC and the Ultras could get involved in?? |

Now your starting to get paranoid mark.. i never mentioned the club at all.. I said pity no one told the fans... Anyway for me I wanted to highlight and find out if anything is being done. according to your good self something is being done and we can help if we want.. For me thats a result... happy to know things are in hand :) |

Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
Don't forget that the pair didn't operate 'on a shoestring' for the earlier parts of their time at Stanley. It's only been in more recent times that things have got much, much harder.
The problem with testimonial matches is that they are historically badly attended affairs and do little for the people concerned. I fully agree that something needs to be done to celebrate the landmark and would attend anything that was arranged. |

Be great to do something for them!!
THEY DESERVE IT!! |
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
Have a big disco :theband: on the pitch! "pre-season" Get a little stage built like when they have bands playing at football grounds, get a karaoke as we all know Coley likes a song or two! All Players, Ex Players that Coley and Jimmy have brought in Craney, Roberts etc and Fans invited! This way everyone can come! Sure they can get a bar built with beer barrells available from The Crown Pub and Buy The House Lounge! What could be better nice hot sunny say  on the Crown ground with Coley and Jimmy and every other stanley fan celebrating the long rein of the management team and long may it continue!

Maybe some kind of reading matter could be done,
charting the Season's under the "Dynamic Duo" with photos & contributions from past & present players, fellow managers & fans alike?:) |

Ironically one of the first t-shirts we made was a Dynamic Duo sample t-shirt to show the club shop what we could do. Better go dig it out :D |

The problem with testimonial matches is that they are historically badly attended affairs and do little for the people concerned. Have only been at Stanley for last 7 yrs, but I remember going to Jamie's & was as disappointed as he must have been, to see so few 'supporters' there. saying that, I would still attend JC & JB's, & thank them for all they have done for ASFC |
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
A proper team v a proper team will get more fans than a mish mash of players.. all star eleven types...
Jonothan smiths against barrow produced my best ever jimmy bell picture... IMG_9859.JPG :: Accy v Barrow |
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
looks like kp touting for more work in the off season:D:D
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
Would love to see Accy Stanley first team vs Stanley Ultras and a big wee up after in the bar:D
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
think if they use there good offices n get some Premiership stars to take part in a game, along with ex-stanley players, that would be the best chance to get a reasonable gate, which fer em is whats needed.:) just my thoughts.
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
you wouldnt get many to see stanley ultras v first team... hardly anyone showed up the last time they played each other... Ultras v Accrington Stanley
cashy thats ahwt we did lastt ime. mish mash of players and the response was poor play a decent team who will bring fans.. not a mixture of players .. thats the way to get people through the gate |
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
fair enough i can go with that. i'm only returning you been around awhile. may be n idea to talk to big sam then?
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
:) John and Jimmys first love after Stanley of cause are LIVERPOOL FC both are avid surporters of the reds and with the conection with the said team is plan to see is there any chance that they would partisapate in some way ie send a strong team with Bav's Englands captain buddy SG in the line up.just athought:)
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
that would be great mab, they could blackmail em into coming, or gerrards going down.:D;)
|
Re: Ten years - Testimonial ?
first I heard on the testimonial was about 12 months ago, they wanted two games (1 each) and they wanted Liverpool and Man Utd.
