We were simply outclassed by a good physical but not dirty side...
Like Eric Whalley said ..shame we couldn't keep Terry Gornell...coz 1 goal in 71/2 hours play just isn't good enough to survive in this league....esp when rivals Barnet and Grimsby score 3 and 5 respectively...those missed penalties by Proctor could well come back to haunt them...I hope for their sake they DON'T!!!

To me Stanley were terrible.

We were tactically inept, and were always playing as eleven individuals rather than a unit. The very basics of football were completely lost.

In attack we were awful. Surely the scouse lot have heard the song "Pass & Move". We couldn't pass water. John Mullin (who was nowhere near fit enough) never had any passing options as all our players stood like statues when he had the ball. We are so easy to defend against it's unreal.

The biggest problem I saw was how Stanley players never closed down the opposition. You cannot stand off an opposition side so successful when they are on the attack. Whenever we got the ball, two Gills players closed our man down and retrieved the ball. We must've kept posession for a combined total of thirty seconds. We made it so easy for Gillingham and in truth they should've done better.

Another thing terribly wrong with our side - Chris Turner's boots! Get him down to JJB...

The positives? Kenny Arthur! He was back to his old self, rising like a salmon on red bull to pluck crosses out of the air. The King is back!
Also, fair play to Rocky. He was played drastically out of position and with that in mind he played pretty well. Welcome back Jodie.

All in all, I thought we were lucky not to get a hiding today.

The bottom line is we've won just 7 games all season. The only time when we've looked anywhere near effective was when we had the likes of Gornall, Griffiths, etc.

It was said at the beginning of the season that any 'non-points-deducted' team that was relegated this season, deserved it. My view on this hasn't changed.

It has been like this for far too long. Our players seem unaware of how to create space and move into that space - or allow others to move into the space created. The more I think about it (not pleasant thoughts!), the more I reflect that our flowing moves and incisive attacks ended when Rommy Boco was injured and eventually departed. Our ability to cross the ball effectively ended with the departure of Andy Todd.

The whole process of building an attack is slow and laboured. As Shakermaker says, and as others have said in the past, we are so easy to defend against. Can anyone imagine Stanley scoring a goal similar to that scored by Alex for Chelsea yesterday?

The problem we have is nobody wants the ball, I noticed yesterday our players were quite happy to find an opposition player to be "marked by" and stay with him, absolutely no effort to sneak away, it's more evident during throw-ins.
There is no movement during free-kicks and corners, and in open play there was very little effort to find space.

Two player who were in recent games "After the ball" Were JP Kissock (gone back to Everton) and McConville(out with wrist injury) and I agree with you that there are very few occasions when people put their hands up and/or scream for the ball, I would say that is down to one thing only - lack of confidence, which goes hand in hand with our poor run of results. Something has got to change and it has to be the starting line up, this has got to include attacking kids from the start, Turner and Higginbotham to name but 2 ...........

If we do 'get away with it ' T-M ..what next ??...
But if, as someone said..'Fear is the spur'...I noted it etched on ( or is it 'in'?) the faces of practically every one of 'the Reds' as they left the pitch yesterday...could this be the motivating influence which will keep their heads above the gathering waves of relegation??...
We were however, beaten by a very good footballing side in 'the Gills', and even the best eleven we could have mustered from all the players used this season would have really struggled to get a result !!.
Perhaps the Chester and Grimsby six-pointers will prove to be more likely propositions for some success....who can say...???.

Coleman: Lack of goals letting us down Accrington boss John Coleman was gutted to see his side extend their winless run to eight games following a 2-0 home defeat by Gillingham.

Goals from Simeon Jackson and Dennis Oli secured three points for the Gills, who remain among the play-off places as they look for a swift return to League One.
"We have just got to keep battling. We are in a precarious position now and we have to get out of it," Coleman said.
"It is our lack of goals which is killing us. They scored two deflected goals and things drop for you when you are at the top but not when you are near the bottom. We gifted them the goals and I think the scoreline was harsh on us.
"The lads are dejected in there but we have to pick them up now. We are working hard, the effort and work-rate is there but we are just lacking quality at the moment. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal.
"But I am no quitter and the players aren't and we will keep going to get ourselves out of this and hope we can."
