What am I missing?
I've been going up Stanley for over 20 years. Started going with my Grandad at about 8 years old and been ever since, remember being there when there was less than 100 in the crowd, the Russ bus and all! Had many many happy memories.
However, this year I have lost the bug, it's just gone. Don't know what it is, it's just gone. Only been to about 4 games this year and I think I am in that group that Coley and Eric are taking about staying away. Never thought it would happen but it has. Can you help? Need good reason to come back! |
Re: What am I missing?
for me personally, it is about a few things:
being able to afford to take my two lads and enjoy some quality together, while following the Red's meeting up with friends & family before the game and enjoying a natter about the last game & today's game etc. talking to people who I have met while going on Stanley and away fans without the slightest hint of trouble probably foremost for me it is a real family friendly Club! |
Re: What am I missing?

I'm in a similar boat to be honest. Since I had to stop going on every week it's got easier and easier to not go on. It has always been the same to be honest. It is easier to stay away than it is to go on. But then something happens, like a big cup game and BANG, you're back and loving it again. |
Re: What am I missing?
get yerself booked on to the Macc coach and see if an away game can't fix all your woes Gaz.

Re: What am I missing?
Good post, Pendle Red. Like you, it's the whole matchday experience that keeps me coming back.
The craic in the Oaklea beforehand with Cashy, Yonmon and various other chaps...the craic on the Clayton End which is always good, even when it's tinged with gallows humour, as it was yesterday...having a chat with the various people who I've got to know through following Stanley and, because it's my hometown club, with people who I went to school with, used to drink with etc...walking down Whalley Road, having a chat with away fans going to the station (with never a hint of a threat)...and yes, I know I haven't mentioned the quality of football on offer, which isn't great at the moment, but people should never forget that we are punching way, way above our weight and appreciate that miracles have been achieved to even get where we are. And I'll tell you something else...whatever the outcome of this season, I'm looking forward to next season, as well. Handed my readies over for my season ticket and, at just over six quid a match, I don't reckon I'll get better value anywhere! So come on, Gazlad, as Google Page Ranking says, we need you, so come home where you belong. |
