Who Would You Keep?
...or at least try to, come the end of the season?
Here's the current first team squad; in bold are the players I would offer contracts to: Kenny Arthur Ian Dunbavin Peter Cavanagh Phil Edwards James Bell Peter Murphy Colin Murdock Robbie Williams Chris King Leam Richardson Chris Turner Jimmy Ryan Andy Procter John Mullin John Miles Bobby Grant Sean McConville (already under contract for next season) Paul Mullin (already under contract for next season) Andy Smith I rate Ian Dunbavin as a decent stand-in 'keeper, but having an injured back up player for most of the season is pretty pointless. Jay Bell isn't good enough for league football. Colin Murdock is ok to deputise in case of injury, but I'd rather keep a younger player of equal ability in Peter Murphy. John Mullin has held our midfield together at times this season, it will be a shame to see him go, but again it's a question of how many full games we'd get out of him in a season. John Miles has been awful for most of his time here, surely we can't offer him a new contract. I don't think Bobby Grant will become a consistent league footballer, whereas I just don't think that Andy Smith has the ability. If he does, we'll probably never see it. I'm not sure whether I'd try to sign Lindfield or Charnock. Stick yer two-penneth in 'ere. |
Re: Who Would You Keep?
Kenny Arthur
Ian Dunbavin Peter Cavanagh Phil Edwards (Sign him up on 3 year contract! Quality Defender) James Bell Peter Murphy Colin Murdock Robbie Williams Chris King Leam Richardson Chris Turner (Sign him up on 3 year contract! Quality young right/left wing player) Jimmy Ryan (keep him as long as we can! One of the best players this season! Quality young player!!!! Andy Procter John Mullin (still undisided about him) John Miles Bobby Grant (Good player but not seen enough of this year) Sean McConville (already under contract for next season) Paul Mullin (already under contract for next season) Andy Smith Kieran Charnock (If we could afford him and he wanted to, good defender) Craig Lindfield (Works hard, the goals will come, would offer a contract) |
Re: Who Would You Keep?

Re: Who Would You Keep?
Robbie Williams???
I'd rather keep Rats!!! |
Re: Who Would You Keep?
Kenny Arthur Must keep him 2 yr deal only 28 I think Ian DunbavinPeter Cavanagh Kieran Charnock If we can afford him Phil Edwards Solid at the back week in week out James Bell Will not make the grade Peter Murphy Deserves a chance to prove himself Colin Murdock Still a good defender Robbie Williams Chris King Leam Richardson Needs to regain his fitness ??? Chris Turner Massive potential must get his signature Jimmy Ryan AS ABOVE Andy Procter 1 Yr John Mullin 1 Yr John Miles can still offer us something and we do not have £££ to splash around Bobby Grant ? Sean McConville (already under contract for next season) Paul Mullin (already under contract for next season) Andy Smith ? Craig Lindfield Would like to see him remain on loan until Jan 2010.. Just depends on how much we have to spend and how much we can allow some of the kids to feature Burey, Black, Strode Etc. |

Re: Who Would You Keep?
We have to keep John Miles next season, as we'd never be able to afford a replacement player with his skill and ability.
I can't be bothered looking now, but when we signed him I posted a message stating that a Macclesfield fan had told me that we wouldn't see the best of Miles until the second season, and that's been the case. |

an i recall another saying something like 'he can appear lazy' - i think that the team need to ensure he is a big part of the game so he doesn't go missing. better clubs than us have seen his potential...............if only we could get that week in week out!!! |
Re: Who Would You Keep?
Kenny Arthur (Definatley)
Ian Dunbavin (Think he's a good keeper and would fill kennys shoes if he was injured quite well) Peter Cavanagh (No question about it) Phil Edwards (Same again) James Bell (Against luton and daggers at home, i think they were the games, i think he played really well) Peter Murphy (Think he might not have the bottle anymore after such a big injury) Colin Murdock (Don't think he's consistent enough) Robbie Williams (Become alot more consistent since he came back a few weeks ago) Chris King (Great full back, the next reg hollis) Leam Richardson (One of the best we've had) Chris Turner (Get a lengthy contract out of him, great player) Jimmy Ryan (Player of the season so far) Andy Procter (Good for cover) John Mullin (When he's fully fit he's a good player but how often he's going to get injured, i think we need players who are going to be fit for most of the season) John Miles (Plays for a contract at the end of the season, for the rest of the season he's abit diobolical) Bobby Grant (Him and Chris on the wings would be like the old Deano & Rory) Sean McConville (already under contract for next season) Paul Mullin (already under contract for next season) Andy Smith (Need all the strikers we can get, if we dont get a couple of strikers in then i'd keep him but otherwise i think he is to good to be sat on the bench and in the reserves week in week out) |
Re: Who Would You Keep?
John Miles is a keep.

Re: Who Would You Keep?
Kenny Arthur
Ian Dunbavin Peter Cavanagh Phil Edwards James Bell Peter Murphy Colin Murdock Robbie Williams Chris King Leam Richardson Chris Turner Jimmy Ryan Andy Procter John Mullin John Miles Bobby Grant Sean McConville (already under contract for next season) Paul Mullin (already under contract for next season) Andy Smith Sign Charnock and Lindfield if the money is there and a few defenders, and another striker should do it. Also get a midfielder on loan for the season. |
Re: Who Would You Keep?
Kenny Arthur
Phil Edwards Chris King Jimmy Ryan Chris Turner John Miles Kieran Charnock (If we can afford) |
Re: Who Would You Keep?
After watching the match against Lincoln - here are the players I would lose:
Cav - too slow, Rocky - not up to standard for this league, Miles - drifts in and out easily and goes missing for games on end, Bav's - too injury prone, there are others, but I will come back to them later. |
Re: Who Would You Keep?
we need to keep every1 bar the ones like smith bell etc who have been on the periphary and will only play if we have injuries. the standard of the league this year has been very poor i can count on one hand the number of decent teams imho. we need 5 good quality additions as long as we keep the majority of the squad (including charnock). another centre back, centre mid, left footed midfielder, 2 strikers.
with most of our players out of contract am more worried about who we might lose than who we should keep. been alot of scouts at the games recently |

Re: Who Would You Keep?
I agree cashman but i think we should keep Grant but loan him out for half a season so he can get some first team games under his belt. Because i think he will become great agin like last season! Just wish we had got griffiths before he went back home.

Re: Who Would You Keep?
Just a side note. Jordan Neild wont be going to Everton (or anywhere else) in the near future as I heard he broke his leg against Chester on Saturday.
Bad news for the lad but could be good news for us in the long run if we get to keep a good young player for a couple of seasons at least!! Get well soon Jordan!! |
