Friday Night Football

Four of us were having a natter in t'pub the other night and the topic came up of why don't Stanley play matches on Friday nights. I should imagine that this has cropped up in earlier posts but my mates (who support other teams) were adamant that they'd come and watch Stanley rather than sit in front of the telly. Is there any particular reason that this won't happen? I know that the gates would be down for matches involving teams in the southern part of the country but even if it was experimented for only one season the novelty value alone would probably see gates improve.

Football = Saturday 3pm with the odd midweek match thrown in to keep us going..

You'll be wanting seats on the terrace next! :)

Have to admit I'm a huge advocate (spelling?) of Friday night football. Only ever been to one Fri night game up here and we had to open up another stand behind the goal (after the game had started) to let in several hundred more fans who were still queuing to get in. (a rarity!)

There is a massive apetite for Friday night football north of the board and Setanta had agreed to show a number of games live on Friday, however the Police have put an end to it. (as Fri night is one of the busiest nights they have for trouble - youngsters drinking etc in town centres, and so they don't have the resources to police a footie match).

Not sure why Friday night football was/is seen as such a big thing - for me I think it was a) because it was night match, b) it wasn't in midweek so I didn't have to worry about getting home late then up for work next morning, c) a few pints could be had and I had plenty of time to sleep it off on Sat morn, and d) it freed up all of Saturday to do whatever I wanted - primarily lie up on the couch and watch all the other scores coming in. Bring back Fri night football!!!

Plus of course there's quite a lot of local league matches on Saturday afternoon's, so there may be a chance of getting some of those lads coming. Unless Sky pull out of football I seriously doubt that we'll get back to the scenario of all matches kicking off at 3-00pm on a Saturday afternoon. There is also a recession on so I think that anything to generate more cash should at least be thought about.

I've never understood why local league games are scheduled for the same kickoff time as the 'big (local)game '.I guess not everyone in a town/city supports the local 'star attractions'..Kinda thought that the main attraction would k/o @3 (as it is) with all local stuff at 12:30 or Sunday..thats how it is over here for the leather egg game.

not in favour cos i know a few long standing season ticket holders, that fer them Friday Nights would not be possible, due to work commitments. should those folk just be ignored? i don't think so.

I agree Cashman, the views of the season ticket holder should in fact be paramount. Re kick off times however I suspect that, as always, it will likely be dictated by companies such as Sky TV. Sadly they've become a necessary evil as clubs depend on tv money.

We would buy 2 season tickets if it was Friday nights. This year because of the weather we will get to about 7 home games in mid week.

i would love it if stanley played on a friday! work most saturdays so it'd be ideal for me, i'm sure a lot of people wouldn't agree but maybe the club could trial it for a few games at the start of next season & see what the reaction was??
