Good marketing Good idea..

ASDA Accrington – Saturday 28th March 2009
Accrington Stanley FC will be hosting a season ticket launch event at Asda Accrington from 10am-4pm.

There will be a number of ASFC staff and members of the Supporters Group on hand promoting the fantastic 2009/10 season ticket prices. Goalkeeper, Kenny Arther, central midfielder, Andrew Procter and exciting winger, Chris Turner will be signing autographs from 10.00-10.30am before they set off to Rotherham for the 3pm kick off at the Don Valley stadium. Commercial Manager Dan Warburton added, “It’s a great opportunity for the club to get out and raise further awareness about the excellent season ticket prices in very busy Asda store on their busiest trading day of the week. The staff at Asda Accrington have been very supportive towards assisting in the club in the promotional activities we are undertaking and we will look to continue to partner with them in the future.”

So pass on the message to family and friends and we hope to see you over at Asda on Saturday.

Copied from Fishy..

This is what we have been short of ?? Get the players out and use them to help sell the club, this is a good positve for me. Keep it working get the players in the schools sell sell sell they wont come to us lets go to them.

Well done Dan :) Well done OSC :)

It's good that they listen, we also had a trailer at the beginning of the season advertising the new kit which could now be used as a moving billboard advertising the season tickets and parked up in locations around the borough:)

Ossy Millls would be another prime spot to set up as we already have use of part of it for merchandise etc

Accy Carnival coming up in June, let's get out and about and let folk know we exsisit

The Stanley Roadshow coming to a town near you soon, it's not as daft as it sound lot's of schools, churches, village fetes etc. during the Summer, we did it a few year back in Barrowford and most people commented on it!

From small acorns..........

thats a point pendle red, was told at the adsa that there is a marketing outlet ay ossy mills, after i asked a question about summat i wanted to purchase, had no idea at all was one up yon, we were in this last monday n never saw it, think the fact one is up yon should be promoted better, can't do any harm.

Agreed - this is a great idea. It's been suggested many times in the past and now the club is acting on it. Just a pity that they cannot spell the name of our own goalkeeper!

If you notice in the programmes Craig has gone from Lindfield to Linfield  That is just part of the Stanley attraction....:);)

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Well that was a good campaign, went up about 2pm, accymad & Toni were there with several hundreds of leaflets with the season ticket details & application forms. We gave out all of them to the many customers in asda, with only a small amount discarded so with that it was a good do, with some sign ups & paid applications. The trailer was nicely placed in the best location of asda advertising stanley tickets too, thanks to Toni's grandad.

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Hey Ladies & Gentlemen....

First i would just like too thank Lesley, Niel, Mel (& Daughter), Diane & the lady who came towards the end (sorry i forgot your name) for the help i received on the promotion day at asda. Much appreciated and without you guys i would not have left ASDA with my sanity :o) Also thanks to Kenny, Andy & Chris for their participationprior to travelling to Rotherham for the game.

We flogged all 700 leaflets and we hope that we get a good response from it. We exagerated too everyone thats "kids go FREE" which if i say did catch the attention. The sweets on show also did go down well with the youngsters (& myself of course).

The carnival idea is already in swing and i had a meeting myself with the organisers last week and we will be hoping to bring the players along aswell too tie in with what the Ultras are thinking of doing. So basically making us all as 1 for the day as really we all do follow the same club.

I have noted down the suggestions on here re advertising and i will look at them over this week and see what we can do to get Accrington Stanley in everyones eyes....

Thanks again to everyone who has helped me, and if anyone has any other ideas as to where could be a good idea for another Season Ticket Launch thing like ASDA then please do tell me.

Toni

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Well done to all who helped, it seems like it could have been successful. good luck with the rest of the stuff Toni.

As for the other places to do a launch. You could try Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys in Burnley, and Tesco, Asda, Morrisons in Blackburn.
The three in Burnley should be favourites as we could steal the fans back, that were stolen from us 45 years ago.

Seriously though, Clitheroe and Haslingden/Rossendale valley should be fair game.

Pendle Red 30-03-2009 18:40

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Great the "kids go free" was focussed on, that's what we need next generations!:)

One other key area that is maybe a little overlooked and could be brought more to the fore is the full time Student prices at £50, posters up in around local colleges & sixth form centres?

lancashirelassz 30-03-2009 18:47

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Hey thanks for the response from you 2 gentlemen.... ( Well im assuming your men)

with regards to the student price we have got a presentation in line for accrington college in may sometime so that is already in the pipe line.. I also study at Bburn college so we are also going to talk to them about doing the same there as we are doing with ACROSS. Just a thought actually student money comes mid April so i should set up a stall for then (when they all have money) lol

Also touch up on the other stores, we didnt have any more lined up but due to saturday at ASDA being a good success we are looking at contacting other stores aswell.

Thanks for your ideas :) xxx

Good point...and what about that Gateway Supermarket up Ossy?...and isn't there some sort of out-of-town shopping centre at Whitebirk (excuse my ignorance, but not lived up there for over 20 years)? Could we not arrange to have a stand there? Problem now is that time is running out. Couldn't they put the discount deadline day back for a couple of weeks? After all, things are suddenly looking up on the pitch after a long, hard winter and people may need a little time to react to that! :)

Maybe the last game of the Season, could be made into "Family Day"

I don't quite how it would stand with legalities?

possible ideas, kids entertainer e.g. stilt walker or juggler, face painting, balloons etc. meet the players

obviously free tickets for the kids and see where it goes:)

Don't know if it's any help but they are planning a big day in town on Good Friday because of the Ossy Mills opening. I know they are opening the market as well so it should be as busy as it's going to get :)

Perhaps worth taking the trailer down and some leaflets ?

Even more so if Stanley have a shop in the town centre Ossy Mills, ( does anyone know if they are doing that ? ) . I noticed the season ticket posterss up in the windows now :D

Good idea, Dave, but the problem is, as it stands at the moment, the discount deal will have finished by then. Come on, Stanley, extend the deadline date and get some new leaflets and posters printed up!

I will be able to look at getting the deadline date for the "early bird" offer extended ad will mention it as soon as i step foot in the office tomorrow... I think i recallsomeone saying it was entended last year aswell.

We already have some sort of shop in Ossy Mills selling our menchandise so again i will contact them re the day in Great Harwood on Good Friday... Thanks :)

Now Pendle Red with regards to some sort of entertainment on the last home game of the season which is Chesterfield on the 25/04, well i think this is a fantastic idea... But it needs to be rranged ASAP and posters distributed indicating "family Day, Children Go Free". I also have a funny feeling that on this day there is some sort of end of season party in the Buy the House lounge so maybe this could coincide with that event aswell, not sure whether it is welcoming children as i havent arranged this but i will again look into in tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the kind suggestions and comments..

I think you better check that as we (the supporters club) booked the room for the evening at the beginning of the season for our end of season presentation night and I have checked it since and it is definately booked by us!!!

I will just look into making it a fun day out for all the family and see if i can sort out some sort of entertainment, but i know i will be on a tight budget.

Now with response to whether or not i work here at the club. I do 2 days minimum a week in the commercial & marketing department alongside David & Dan, this is my free time when not studying. But it does coincide with my study so its all good. Under a ot of pressure but the best job i have ever had by far :)

think it would be foolish not to extend.

shakermaker 03-04-2009 19:39

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

The club could push the deadline back - if only by a few days - and market it in a positive way, rather than it appearing as an act of desparation.
After this weekend sees the end of the fiscal year, there will be a lot more public unrest, helpfully inflamed by the British media. People will be worried by everything from pension eligibility to rises in the price of stamps, and a little gimmick can be made by the club here.
Keep the 'early bird' offer going a little longer and promote relentlessly for just a few days with a leading line of "early birds allowed a little lie in"... or something equally enigmatic and poetic.
I don't know, we just need to do something. Come on Stanley give it a bit more welly.

Wynonie Harris 03-04-2009 20:02

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Right, so it hasn't worked so far. If the club has the slightest idea of marketing and promotion, then they will be sitting down at some point over the weekend and discussing what to do next...
...do they extend the deal?
...if so, for how long...a couple of weeks...or to the end of the season...or longer?
...how do they promote it?...a cheapo leaflet?...posters?...showing their faces at the various events like the Barrowford Show that have be mentioned by other people on here?
...targeting certain segments of the population (think Toni mentioned something about students getting their grant money soon)?
...hitting other towns apart from Accy?
...getting the OSC and maybe other fans involved?

The one thing the club CANNOT afford to do is just leave it and let it die...there's too much at stake for that.

So, come on, Stanley, buck up yer ideas! :)

Stanleymad 03-04-2009 20:42

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Think the uncertainty at the club could be hampering the ticket sales, a lot of rumour, speculation etc about the ownership of the club & its direction will most definately be a major point especially with the credit crunch, people are a very cautious even more so with doubt of uncertainty. The club & even the OSC & fans [we had some of our members actually helping & trying to push the club & the tickets], so in part we have done our best, next stage is really the club to sort the head of house affairs out quickly & extend the deadline to see where the land lies.

Would of thought the ownership issue would of been sorted & is delaying my purchase as well as the darn seats palavour!

shakermaker 03-04-2009 20:56

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Maybe it's just me Mel but I would imagine that the ownership saga is a good thing for season ticket sales. It keeps us (and in turn our season ticket offers) in the press, and that is a good thing as the club don't seem to be overly fussed about promoting their offers.

Stanleymad 03-04-2009 21:22

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Just me then :(

Stanleymad 03-04-2009 21:26

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

Also what is the gate prices for next year, are they frozen or going up? The seats saga is another problem, cos of the pricing too but also having to decide on which option to take when no bloody idea of the layout or look of it done, so to base the decision on ?? cos that could ruin my viewing next season if i happen to get it wrong, so many things to consider other than the obvious money issue. If im having these issues effecting my purchase then how many others, other than those that have got one.

Pendle Red 03-04-2009 21:27

Re: Good marketing Good idea..

The club have done far more than in terms of previous years:
Brilliant ticket pricing
Ticket prices announced early
plenty of promotion, posters out and about, asda day, radio adverts, competitions in the media, club playing good football

How else can they pull in the punters?

Special prices for odd games? but then run the risk of offending season ticket holders

Burnley are running unlimited tickets for season ticket holders for friends and family at discounted prices for their last three home games, this is a two prong attack in looking at trying to fill the ground, then spending once through the turnstiles and getting people who wouldn't normally attend hooked thus buying season tickets for next season?

I really feel for everyone connected to Stanley, cause this in not a mass marketing machine it really is a family club where most people know one another and get along to some in this day and age that would be seen as nostalgia to me if you could bottle what we have and sprinkle it over folk, we would fill the stadium every week. :)

The other problem Pendle red is really we are a very small outfit battling with the bigger boys, even with the big boys there is mass competition for bums on seats, we can only punch as far as our finances will allow. This tho is our constant battle tho have impressed them with our pricing, tho they do question how? lol

Maybe one other idea, is a try before you buy scheme simply say if you attend the last two games of the season and could produce ticket stubs from those games, you could still qualify for a discounted price (maybe not the full discount, but a partial amount) on the full season ticket price after the deadline?

If they are going to extend they won't announce it until Sunday or Monday, otherwsie the money they will be due to get tomorrow is likely to stay in everyones pocket for a few weeks :)

Watch out for the press anouncement, Sunday or Monday " Due to the popular demand for the bargain price season tickets, we have decided to give as many people as possible the opportunity to take advantage of the offer " ;)

It actually alienates some season ticket holders

After this weekend sees the end of the fiscal year, there will be a lot more public unrest, helpfully inflamed by the British media. People will be worried by everything from pension eligibility to rises in the price of stamps, and a little gimmick can be made by the club here.
Keep the 'early bird' offer going a little longer and promote relentlessly for just a few days with a leading line of "early birds allowed a little lie in"... or something equally enigmatic and poetic.
I don't know, we just need to do something. Come on Stanley give it a bit more welly.

Good post this.. it would be a positive if the club could give it a few more days and have one last push...

Reckon it needs more than a few days. Think they should run it at least to the end of the season...maybe beyond. And, most importantly, they should get out beyond the confines of Accrington and push it in other areas of East Lancs...the Ribble Valley, Rossendale etc. When they revert to the normal price, sales are likely to be minimal, so what's to be gained from ending the offer today?
