Today's match at Grimsby

Team (from Grimsby's site): Kenny, Cav, Murdock, Proccy, Miles, Lindfield, Edwards, Ryan, Rocky, Turner, Symes. Bench: Hibbert, Bell, Grant, Kay, Mullin

Re: Today's match at Grimsby

Disappointed to see Cav and Rocky playing, but hey ho - personally I would have played Kay and Bell with McConville on the bench plus one other Burey? Least there was some good news this afternoon with Liverpool beating Blackburn 4-0 and Preston losing to Blackpool.

Half time - suppose 0-0 is a decent half time score for us. lets hope for goals for Stanley in the second half as long as the goals against says nil

Notts County losing at Don Valley - it would move us up to 16th if scores stay as they are.

Half time: 0-0. 'All action' according to the radio. 'Entertaining'. Murdock and Cav picking up lots of balls in the air.

Re: Today's match at Grimsby

Followed right behind the 2br car into Grimsby and Cleethorpes on my motorbike. They turned off right to park just before Mcdonalds.

Just motorcycled home.

Great performance in front of over 6300 Grimsby fans and 88 of ours. There were no obviously empty seats on the other 3 sides of the ground.

The way we started could only see one result. Totally dominated with some great possession football. Unfortunately did not score.

As their player ran through one on one with Kenny Cav and Rocky raced back and Cav made a superb interception in our penalty area.

They came more into it in the second half.

Kenny Arthur made some superlative saves to keep a clean sheet. The flying tip over at full stretch from their no 12's shot heading for the left corner was one of the most amazing saves I have ever seen and right in front of their end

Turner put in a wonderful cross for Symes goal. Even a Grimsby fan was saying what a great goal it was after the match.

Kenny man of the match.

Re: Today's match at Grimsby

I had a really good day today, except for coming back to where I'd left my car in Accrington to find it had a flat tyre. :(

Anyway, I think the team responded in the right way to the week's events. Every player gave everything they had and I think we just about edged it in the second half. There was a good reaction from the players at the end to the travelling fans, which really showed that we're all together at this time. It'd be a shame if a few misguided people undid that camaraderie on Monday.

By the way Haggis, were you wearing a yellow coat at today's game? If so, then i was sat right behind you. ;)

Wore yellow high viz tabard initially but took it off very early and was wearing predominantly black motorbike jacket and trousers with silver high viz trim.

Had large blue bag for helmet.

Was sat between Redash and Wynonie in first half and to the right of Wynonie in the second half.

My photo is on profile any way.

Probably...four pints of real ale brewed on the premises at Willy's Bar, followed by a couple more celebratory pints on the way home does tend to take its toll! ;)

Yeah, I read that! I assumed KP was their photographer and if he was sat near the corner flag he was seriously in danger from some of our shooting. Perhaps that's what he meant.....

Henry Morton 11-04-2009 21:59

Re: Today's match at Grimsby

Many thanks to our correspondents who ventured to Grimsby and risked falling off the edge of the known world.

Now that you're back, I trust that all 88 of you [allegedly] have thrown off the smell of fish or at least neutralised it by visiting either (a) your local fishmonger, or (b) your nearest Public Convenience.

Of course it's great news that Stanley are staying up.

So perhaps ASFC's executive decision to play the best possible team at Grimsby was correct.

Based on the reasons for that decision we might imagine that Easter Monday's home game against Chester should, then, be an occasion for celebration and for Eric and Rob to relax.

A memo will perhaps have been despatched to Mssrs Coleman & Bell to the effect that no player who might be described as 'controversial' need be included in the team.

If only.

Unfortunately, other sides in the relegation battle might successfully argue that Stanley deliberately fielded a weakened side!

Yer do yer best . . . .

Re: Today's match at Grimsby

The atmosphere today was really dictated by the way Accrington started the game.If it had not been for Henderson we would have been 3 down in the first 20 minutes.Town were sluggish throughout the match and therefore the atmosphere reflected this (anxious, frustrated) and above all seeing our boys 2nd best to a very well organised Accrington Stanley did allow fans to enjoy proceedings.
What concerns me now is that this result secures Stanleys league status so will they be as committed on Monday against you know who!!!!.
A BIG CHANCE GONE.:)they better be:D:)
