STANLEY 'downunder'-2009

Just incase anybodies interested.... Havelock Nth Stanley kicked of the 2009 season with a solid and at times dazzeling 6-1 demolition job of Hereworth School (we call them private schools-you guys public I think.)
We gave up a soft goal early ,but proceeded to dominate thereafter.
The team looked magnificiant in their 2007-08 Accrington Stanley 'Away' strip kindly supplied at a super knock down price by Rob Heys and co. I will post the league table as the season progresses.:D

SNAP ! ..forthe second week in a row, HN STANLEY 'demolished' the opposition 6-1 . This week it was HIBERNIAN Tigers on the receiving end. However, we were only average at times and will have to be more consistent for 60 minutes to beat our arch rivals and fellow club side HN CYCLONES in a few weeks time,(they had the 'bye' today.)
Onwards.:)

HN STANLEY.. continued on their winning way with a very hard fought 3-0 win against Maycenvale Mustangs. The score was 0-0 at the break, but a good old fashioned 'tune-up' had us firing on all 8 cylinders in the second spell.Unfortunetly, we are joined at the top by the other Maycenvale outfit-the Hotfoots-who had a 7-2(?) win.we both have a differential of 13.We have a bye next week, then a tourney and in three weeks, the BIG one,vs HN Cyclones, the team that has never lost.

A small bushall of joy regarding the name Stanley...today Havelock Nth Stanley won the 9 a side tourney (5 x 20 minute games) with 1 draw and 4 wins. Its the first silverware for this team so we're all abit 'chuffed'. Next week its the BIG one though, vs HN Cyclones back in the regular league. But I would trade in todays result for victory in that match.
Sorry if the this post offends anyone in relation to events in your part of the world in the last 24 hours. It was not my intention to do so.

Re: STANLEY 'downunder'-2009

Today was the BIG one, vs HN CYCLONES, the 'never, ever been beaten' team. Well they nearly were. We missed a very good chance midway through the 2nd half, then a 'sitter' right on fulltime. I can't recall them getting a shot on goal. Final score 0-0. Probably a fair result, but I did think we were technicaly (sp) the better team. Another HN team next week-the ACE'S. They are mid table, but there coach is the ex CEO of NZ Football and recently CEO of Sydney FC in the Hyundai 'A'League.Nice bloke.

ON the STANLEYS ON indeed... Today the HN STANLEY fair dinkum lashed fellow HN team the ACES, 5-0. I know I'm biased, but we played some very clever, intelligent footie. The result lifts us to second, 2 pts behind Maycenvale Hotfoots who had the bye today. However, they still have to play us and the HN Cyclones (the team thats never lost). We have the same points as the Cyclones, but a superior goal diff.

Try this...but its updated at irregular intervals, usually on a Wednesday (our time). You can also check all the other leagues, mens, womens, kids (10 th grade and up.). Below 10th grade, they've introduced this 'small sided games' lark which I think is OK for little 'uns, but don't want to see it for 11-13 year olds...

Our traditional 'slow start' continued and Western Rangers punished HN STANLEY in the 3rd minute with an 'soft' goal. Then we decided to play and ran out 5-1 winners.
Should've been 10 but for some woeful finishing. Top of the league side Maycenvale Hotshots were un-done 3-0 by our fellow club side the Cyclones 3-0.The wash up from all that is we are now top , about 7 goals better diff than the Cyclones.

Yes, they are aware,as far as kids remember or care about such things. aAfew of the parents ask me about the club on a regular basis ,one in particular is a big BIG wig with a major international NZ/Aus bank....incidentally the dreaded Cyclones have one of equal standing with another major bank..

Kiwi John 27-06-2009 20:34

Re: STANLEY 'downunder'-2009

Not a good result yesterday...HN Stanley played the leagues most improved team, Hastings Rovers. Prior to K/O, STANLEY had conceded just 3 goals. We were off to an unusually beaut start with a neat strike from our top player FINN. They equalised.1-1 at the break. 15 minutes into the second spell,(and playing without our regular centreback,) HASTINGS powered through the middle and netted 4 times !. Down 1-5, I was off to the nearby river to 'sleep'. Then, with 10 minutes to go, it started. Brilliant play and a "Never say die" attitude got us back 1,then 2, the, 3 goals to trail 4-5.Then right on the dot of fulltime, Henry slammed home the 5th from 3meters to make the final score 5-5. UNBELIEVABLE !! The sad fact is we slip from 1st to 3rd and unlikely to catch the CYCLONES as they have the 'easier' run in.Still , we'll be going hard.

Oh dear...our title asoirations are ,being realistic, all over.Today we played the other side in REAL contention ,Maycenvale Hotfoots, and were held to a 1-1 draw. WE HIT THE &^*#^*(&^%*#^ POST 8 times!!!!!!! The goal we got was an own goal.,theres was fair enough, but 1 of only 2 shots they had on target. We are now actually 4th, but are undefeated...School holidays now, so we can't get back on track till 25th. Looks like those dam CYCLONES will go through undefeated and take the friggan championship. Best we can realisticaly play for is 2nd. Thats our target now.

HN Stanley resumed its season with a nail biting 3-1 win over the big Haumoana Hunters. We led 1-0 before slack defence allowed the 'Hippies' to steal one. With 5 minutes to go, and after countless chances on our part, we scored a ripper and 2 minutes later added the killer blow with another well excuted effort. Final score 3-1. We deserved it, but my hair turned grey for a while. Played 9, won 6 drew 3, 34 for, 10 against.21 points. Up to 3rd.

Today the HN STANLEY trounced their fellow club team ,the PUMAS, 5-0. It was a very solid effort by our lot, though they had a few chances. Our keeper got MOM as today he looked the most compedant he has all season-never looked in danger of being beaten.
So, thats all 3 fellow club sides we've played now. Cyclones (0-0), Aces (5-0) and todays effort. Thats 3 games without conceding a goal,a target we set at the start of the season. Three games and a 9 aside tournament to go.

Today what was to be our 2nd last league game turned out to be HN STANLEY's last as the final round(scheduled for 29 August) has been wiped. God knows why. So at the start of the day we were sitting in third spot. At the end, we have finished 2nd, 1 point behind the CYCLONES and 2 ahead of Maycenvale Hotfoots. We won todays match 4-0 (0-0) in a game viewed by some fellow from the ACCRINGTON STANLEY FC shop who is over this way.

So the 'league' season is over, and HN STANLEY finish it with a Played 12, won 9, Drew 3 Lost 0 For 43 against 12 Pts 30'

Next week we take part in a 9 aside tournament , and attempt to defend the title we won back in June.

Re: STANLEY 'downunder'-2009

WE WON, the Hawkes Bay Football 9 aside tourny. Thats 2 out of 2 for that form of competition this season. The group we were in were the winners from the previous tournament, and we did it 1-0, 2-1 (after being 1-0 down with three minutes to go,) and 0-0 in the cruncher.. Thats it for 2009, and thats it for Havelock Nth STANLEY. Next year its graded and the current 4 Havelock Nth club sides will be trialled and graded. The first team (which I've been offered to coach), will have to carry the clubs proper name, Havelock North Wanderers. I expect 4 or 5 'Stanleyites' will make the squad, but thats in the future.
Meanwhile, its been a great season for the kids, and they are all very happy campers.
