Accrington Stanley '55/56

I've just been looking through the programme from our LDV Vans Trophy game at Bradford City in 2004. Pages 28 and 29 of Bantams World feature a look at the Accrington Stanley 'Dream Team' and fairly in depth bio for each player. I know that many will have this programme and will have seen this feature, but I thought I'd scan and upload the pages for anyone that might be interested. The images were only acquired through a home scanner so it's not the best quality in the world (and the quality will probably be further reduced when I attach them to the thread) but they're easily readable when viewed in actual size.

Featured players include Tommy McQueen, Les Cocker, Jim Harrower, etc.

Interesting Shaker, the team on the front is Armour Ashe, Eddie Hunter, Tommy McQueen, Jimmy Harrower, Charlie Sneddon, Norrie McReadie, Joe Devlin {I think**, Les Cocker, Jimmy Stewart, Wattie Dick and Willie Miller. Incidentally, I saw in the Observer that Jackie Swindells has passed away, he was a very good forward on his day and scored a few goals for Stanley. I wonder what the dream team would have been had it been selected from all the players up to 1962?

That's very interesting Shaker, I remember most of the players mentioned, There were also the likes of Willy Kelly, Hughie Ness who took up as an electrician after football, Harvey Mccready, got to know Harvey in later years, was a very good darter and mated about with big Jack Mcgregor who was landlord at the Palatine for a time. Am I right in thinking that Jimmy Harrower went on to be mine host at the Castle Hotel on Whalley Road, seem to remember going to his daughters 21st. There was also a lad called, I think it was Henderson actually got involved with Ossy Immanuel in the late sixties early seventies, he ran a business making pots and pans on I think its called Barnes Street near the Queens pub

It was Tommy Henderson who used to do the pans he goes in Bold Street Club on Sunday nights, and big Jack McGregor goes in Bold Street Club nearly every night

Yep, you're spot on there. He had the Castle in the mid to late 60's. His son, also called Jim, was in my class at Accy Grammar.

JEFF, I have sent you a PM regarding Harvey McCreadie who was my best man back in '64.
I have been trying to find info on Harvey and his wife Pauline for many years.
Pauline's father was a senior board member of Stanley in the 50's, and Harvey, Pauline & I were close pals spending many a "happy night" at Joe Morts.
Harvey lodged at the Stanley's Boarding House in Avenue Parade back in those days. (It was also a short stay home for players transferred in, until they found a permanent residence locally).
