Re: Halifax today

Stanley's second goal was bizarre with their goalie slicing the ball backwards leaving Bobby Grant with a tap in.

Haggis316 18-07-2009 19:47

Re: Halifax today

Good to see Darren Kempson looking dominant composed and tidy in the first half.

Gary King took his goal well with the Halifax fans baying that his run was offside.

Was hoping to see Billy Kee and R Langley and the goalie who played at Burscough cos I haven't great hopes of Alan Martin signing. Does anyone know why they did not feature?

Phil Edwards gave them no change in the second half. I remember one goal saving interception in particular.

Re: Halifax today

I too was expecting to see the keeper who played at Burscough, perhaps travel was an issue as he lives in the south ?? The lad from Leicester doesn't join us until the 1st of August, so it will be straight in at Rotherham???. The other name you mentioned dosn't ring any bells with me, BUT I'm not the close to the team!! Off the field things are my main area!!!

Good to see so many familiar faces at Halifax, sorry couldn't spend more time chatting, so many things needed doing!!

Re: Halifax today

Kempson didn't look too fit to me, but Joyce looked like he could play a bit. Some nice touches and passing play. Second half was poorer than the first and I still see us being totally dependent on Mullin up front.

One thing I am certain of after today, we need to sign a first choice 'keeper.

stanleyfan 18-07-2009 21:46

Re: Halifax today

Yes i agree.. I think that dunbavin is an ok bench warmer but he is definitely not a first choice keeper!

The squad is coming together. I think after singing a good goalie the next step would be a goal scorer that can play off mullin- hopefully Kee will fulfill this role

Re: Halifax today

I disagree.

First half was the usual route-one stuff with Paul M.
The ball was 30ft in the air for most of the time.

Second half was far more fluent play by Stanley, ball played low across the field, far more attractive.
Finally, Cav had had enough of the messing around and decided to show the part-timers how it's done.
Picked up the ball, told the forwards where to go, two passes. Goal. Halifax fans shocked. That's the way to do it.

Re: Halifax today

Mr T told me outside the ground that Kempson had literally come straight to Halifax - obviously he has not benefitted from the boot camp like the others.

Paul Mullin was a threat that Halifax could not ignore but for me he did not have one of his better halves. I thought King was always the more likely to score - as he did.

I was very impressed with Joyce.

In the second half I was right behind his goal with John Timmins and Jase and I can confirm it definitely was Ian Dunbavin.

It was Dunbavin but he had changed his shorts to purple ones

The only one I could find on the net after the match played in the Isle of Man. Wonder if they were referring to Ross Lloyd the triallist from Blackpool.

Ross Williamson was definitely on the team sheet a journalist lent me. Cannot remember whether it was on the pre printed part or whether she had written it in.
