Just arrived back home this morning and thought I would just post a little ditty about our great club :) After driving 550 miles (480 from Accy) arrived at almost the end of the earth in Scotland - calm down UK :) - My wife and I set about setting up our tent when we were greeted by the owner - who was a true Scot,- he asked us about our trip up then asked me where I had come from? I explained then told him of my origin, he then proceeded to tell me how he used to work for Neild Distribution, then he asked me about "That little footy club" I said I knew of it and watched the odd match :rolleyes: He then proceeded to tell me that they were a well known club, he claimed that "M** **D (sorry Baggy) were probably the only club who were better known - I disagreed :D
Maybe you had to be there, but on a campsite at the end of the world almost, what other footy fan/club could command such recognition??? Was proud to be from Accy :cool:

Been saying this for years, and because we have such a famous name, we should be doing more to capitalise on it. Hundreds of football clubs throughout the league and non-league would die for a brand name like ours. Hopefully, Marcelle will be looking at ways to maximise the potential of our name very soon! :)

Although the name is well known, the problem is that it's known for largely negative associations. Resigning from the league mid-season and as a foil for many jokes (i.e. comparisons with general mediocrity and poorness ), doesn't really project the right kind of brand image.

The challenge now is the create a brand identity that is very positive; one that people want to believe in and buy into. That's a massive task.

funnily enough i got very little of the jokes when i had me bar in sunny climes, most people did refer to the demise, n said it was a great shame as they were a great little club, one of the founders etc etc. it actually restored my faith in cockneys.:D

Yes, as we've discussed elsewhere on here, Stanley is a convenient metaphor for the underachieving side of football for third-rate comedians and lazy journalists. But out there amongst the public at large, there's an amazing amount of affection for and interest in Stanley almost as a British institution. Phil Whalley described it perfectly in his book.

I'm sure there must be some way to turn that affection round to our advantage. I can't quite figure out how, but hopefully, Marcelle can! :)

Would have to agree TM, but it seems only to be in the UK.

In my experience, whenever I have travelled abroad and worn my Stanley Shirt I have only ever had good things said to Me about the Club.......our 'branding' problem deffo needs addressing here at 'Home',and I,like you hope that Marcelle can do just that. :D

:) Gerrard already attends some stanley home games mainly mid-wk games when l/pool arn't playing to watch his best mate Bves..:)
