Re: Goals, Goals, Goals!!
Well January is now out of the way and what a month it was! It started with no matches, through the snow and rain, then like buses, we get 2 F.A. Cup matches in 5 days!!
Fulham, what a day!!! JOHN MILES scored the first goal of the new decade (and his first of the season)….And what an important goal it was – what a night!! We have now scored 55 goals so far this season. With the extremely bad weather at the start of the month, it is amazing we had any football at all this month!! That being said, we only added 5 goals to our total this month. SYMES leads the way with 14, followed very closely by BOBBY GRANT on 13, what a season those two have had so far – long may it continue! It will be Barnet, first up this month on Tuesday night and with all the postponements and re-arranged games due to our FANtastic cup run, we will have 2 games a week throughout February!! Here’s hoping for GOALS, GOALS, GOALS!! |

Re: Goals, Goals, Goals!!
Well February is now out of the way and with it all the nonsense of the transfer window, but great to see that we did not lose anybody in the window - players or management alike! :) :)
During the month of February, we managed to score 7 goals, 3 from Bobby, 2 from Milesy and 1 each from Jimmy and Symes. We started out - eventually, with that frenetic match against our lovely local rivals Morecambe and what a game that was, coming from a goal down twice and then that great, great winner from Jimmy Ryan – what a strike!!!!  :) Northampton and Macc, were disappointments!! Lincoln, well…… :( But at least we got back into the groove against The Bantams, with 3 points and two great strikes from John Miles Barmy Army!!!! :) The least said about Torquay, the better, 95th min!!!! :( After 7 months, Bobby leads the way with 16, followed very closely by Symes with 15. Overall, we managed just 7 point in February, which was in all honesty a slight disappointment, but we move in to March with the prospect of 8 matches, 6 of which are at The Crown Ground in sunny old Accy, here’s hoping for a great march on the promotion front and obviously, more Goals, Goals, Goals!!! P.S. That now leaves us on 62 for the season and that sees Kiwi John (57), Madkev (59) and Accymad (62) all out of the running!! (Accymad, I am working on the theory that we will score some more goals this season!! :D) |
Re: Goals, Goals, Goals!!
ya could have included me in out of the running, me 70s looking a bit sick.:D

Re: Goals, Goals, Goals!!
March has been and gone and with it, 7 games and we also managed 7 points, which was a little disappointing!! :(
During March, we managed to score 7 goals also! :) We started at home to Money Men, Notts. County, the less said about that the better, an exciting draw against Macc, then the all action game at underhill, with a well-deserved 3 points – and FL safety for another season :) :) Home against Rotherham was a great night, 3 points, a super winning strike from Jimmy – another one - and a FANtastic vocal support from the crowd. Then followed Rochdale, also at The Crown and for the 2nd time in 2 seasons we lost from being 2 goals up!!! Burton Albion was absolutely dire, to say the least. We also had a disappointing game at Ballmouth and had our home game against Barnet called off for about the 15th time!!!! :) After March, Symes leads the way with 17, followed very closely by Bobby with 16!! That now leaves us on 69 for the season and that sees Macca (63), UK Cowboy (67) and me (67) also out of the running!! |

Re: Goals, Goals, Goals!!
April started out with yet another poor showing, away to The Daggers, then the Bank Holiday disaster against Grimsby and yet another two goal lead thrown away!!!
We then made the trip to bottom club Darlo and we managed a bore draw!! The home defeat to Port Vale – great strike from Bobby!! – made it 1 point from 21! :( This was then followed up by another home defeat, this time to Hereford, though to be honest, on another day it would have been a win – 1 point from 24, has to be worrying, thank goodness for the early season Taxman problems   The game against Crewe was the Fancy Dress away day, which, as an event was FANtastic, though the resulting Stewarding display was nothing less than laughable - for everybody other than Jimmy!! 1 point from 27, relegation form and possibly the worst we have ever had in the Football League! The £5.00 game against Barnet saw us finally get a win, good goal from Billy and cue the celebrations from all of the Grimsby fans!!! What a night to remember :) :theband: :) That now leaves our 2 star strikers battling it out to become the leading goal scorer for this season, with Super Michael Symes on 19, followed very closely by Bobby – Bobby Grant on 18!! Wonder who will score the final goal of the season at The Crown Ground!!! We have now scored 76 goals so far this season and Outback Ozzy (69), Div3North (69), Shakermaker (69), Cashman (70), MCR ADIM (70), Jimbo T Hornblower (72), Dabeast (72), Mab (72), Sparkie (73), Wynonie Harris (75) and Redash (75) are all also out of the running..................leaving only:- fc:stanley, Haggis316, MikeA and Fatgaz182, fighting it out, with just two games to go, good luck to all of you!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
Re: Goals, Goals, Goals!!
Well May was upon us, we had just two games to go and our momentous season would be drawing to an end :)
We started out at home to Chesterfield and for the second time in a year, we dented their play off hopes :D :D :) An inspired double substitution from Jonny Coleman – Football Genius, followed by both men Miles and Kee, linking up to open the scoring, then with a few minutes to go Billy adding his second, the 18th win of a difficult season and 60 points barrier broken for the first time!!! :) Our final (and 60th including S.O.S.) game was away to Cheltenham Town, a Team we had beaten 4-0 at home way back in October. In that game, Chris Turner scored his 1st – and only!! - goal for Stanley, until today!!!!!! A point away at Cheltenham, with a 1-1 draw, saw us manage 61 points this season and we finished up with 79 goals and a massive well done to – ironically! – HAGGIS316, who guessed correctly, that Stanley would score 79 this season!!! Karma sent!! :D A tame end to a season, that had - at one stage - promised so much, yet at some stages along the way, looked like it could have been the end! All in all a great season, another year on year improvement and the basis of a FANtastic squad to build on for next season!!! :) :) :) ON STANLEY ON |
