New Stadium Announcer

Who is the new announcer,????.
I was quite pleased when I turned up at the ground, and no sight or sound of Pricky what's his name. I thought great no obscure reggae music at half time :mosher:.
Half time arrived and 'Flippin Heck' , I nearly Sh1t myself, How loud does the new guy need the music????, I find it difficult enough as it is, having to shout at the top of my voice if I have anything to say to the person next to me :p:tongueout.

It was even louder last home game - I brought my ear plugs this time he really needs to turn it down.

As Gaz said, if you stand to the left of the goal, you hardly hear anything at all. ;)

That is of very little consolation to those of us , who, in our dotage find it easier to sit under the Main Stand TM..!!.

As to the quality of the musical fare served up by the 'NEW' Stadium announcer,
It really was difficult, due to both the amplitude and abysmal sound quality emanating from the speakers, to assess just what sort of C**P it actually was !!.

BRING BACK 'OWD BOB'....Who used to come in our ears par excellence !!

p.s Alfred.E. thinks that 'Billy Casper' must be a bit of a picky so and so !!.

That's very true Yonmon, but at least it's an improvement on Ricky 'That's Your Marker' Kirby! :D

Just to throw my 2p worth in guys, we do actually have a half decent PA system..........however it does not seem to be set up correctly. I have offered,on many occasions to set it,as I have the best part of 20 yrs experience in working with 'live sound',but to no avail! The mistake a lot of people make is 'volume up = better sound',when infact it should be 'clarity over volume= better sound'. This goes for the spoken word as well as recorded/live music. Ok lecture over!! :):):)

I agree the announcer is better than Ricky Kirby - but if it was his choice for us to walk out to the theme from 'The Omen' I'm not so sure.

Just Remembered back at Deepdale in the 90's before the Scoreboard the halftime draw was paraded around on a board during the second half by two lovely ladies (bimbos:D).

Just throwing my threepenny bit in to the mix, I quite enjoyed the music yesterday (Lincoln game). I heard the 50/50 draw number as well (wish I hadn't as I was only one number out). But on the subject of music to walk out to, if the music is to the 'Omen' and we keep winning, then I say it should stay. But I do agree with others - Pete for god sake please get on to Dave/Marcelle to sort out the quality issue with the sound system.

Re: New Stadium Announcer

I was on yesterday and I have to say the sound wasnt as bad as I thought it might be.......well nowhere near as loud as I was expecting it :)

The problem you have is more likely to be the speakers. They are ok for 'vocal frequencies' but cant handle the frequencies produced by 'music'.........its kind of like playing your cd's down the old 'cup and string' setup...........all you would hear is the 'top end', no middle or bass as the 'string' cant pick up on them. Our speakers look like they have 'Piezo' (sp) horn's only which most definatley be unable to handle anything below 'treble' with any real efficiancy. To upgrade them would cost an absolute fortune.............I will, however pop up and see Rob/Don/Marcelle this week when I collect my season ticket to see if I can be of help................just dont shoot the messenger tho guys!!

Remind them again about the 'speaker' at the Clayton End which hasn't worked for months Pete. I'm not bothered about the music, but I can't hear the 50/50 result. ;)

It wasn't as bad yesterday, still a bit loud IMO though ... it should be background music, not attention grabbing, turn it up for announcements.

I think the main reason for such contrasting views here is that the clayton end speakers are not working correctly(if at all) meaning anyone towards that area of the ground wont have a problem with it being too loud - the issue of those of us who watch from the main stand is that the music is so loud you have to raise your voice to speak to someone speakign next to you

I am impressed by this posting Cowboy !!...Succinct, if a bit baffling (no Pun intended!)....

I have a theory that persuades me that the positioning of the Speakers (and their Pizza ,,,ooops 'Piezo'(sp) Horns, just under the edge of the roof forces the sound into what must be an environment which not only amplifies the sounds..( Both Vocal and Music !)..but also increases the reverberation levels emanating from these sub-standard speakers, which as you point out, are probably not the type which would prove ideal for the task!.

The resultant sounds appear to be bouncing and echoing around at an alarming rate, which results in a degree of distortion which my ears find difficult to resolve !!.

If you have the ear of those who might improve this element of the entertainment at 'The Crown',,,then do whisper our concerns into it..!!.

However, I do agree with you that the cost of improving the situation would be somewhat prohibitive...and with the Club's more pressing outgoings in mind....I for one will continue to tolerate these shortcomings!!!...

Which, as Alfred.E. quite correctly points out, makes this posting totally redundant !!!!.......SORRY !.

An extremely good theory, and one that I would have to concur with! The best solution,IMHO, would be to move the current speakers to the front of the stand and turn them towards the crowd, therefore eliminating the 'natural over-reverberation',whilst also cutting down on the 'bounce-back' effect of the surrounding structure. I would imagine that the 'volume' problem would be somewhat reduced as a result. This would most certainly be the most financially viable option should the club wish to make changes................So,no Yonmon, your post is not a pointless one!:D

Cowboy !....Have you noticed that practically everyone on our Forum is going to great lengths to agree (or 'Concur' as we more erudite 'postees' would put it !)..with every opinion and argument, however humble, that others are putting forward ??.
Do you think that this might be an additional element of 'positive fall-out' from the new climate of optimism and good-will which is pervading the Club at the present moment ?..(Which might seduce us all even more if 'The Reds'
put one over Northampton tonight!).

If this is the case...then my Red Colored Spectacles really are redundant !.

It is a rather unique situation Yonmon, why, even TM is jumping on the 'happy waggon'!.............:D

This evenings fare, however, may well have brought us all down to earth again, but as your good friend Alfred.E. has said "one swallow does not make a summer"............( Im sure I used that quote around the same time last season, but for the opposite reasons!)........So dont ignore Him too much!

I digress, back to thread...........is it just Me or did anyone else notice the improvement in the sound system this eve? I thought it was clear, non 'reverby',and at a reasonable volume...........also thought that the 'music' was played down a little this eve. If I didnt know better I would suggest that someone at the Club has been reading this thread.........but we all know that wouldnt happen, would it? :D:):D

Now,where did I put my tinted Specs?..............................

I found this a bit depressing too Cashy !!....Perhaps he's under orders from the late, but not too lamented Ricky to undermine our current feelings of well-being !! by relaying constant snippets of bad news during the game!....You know what these DJ's can be like !..

As to Sam.F's assessment of last nights's assessment of the sound quality under the cover of the Main Stand...The amplification, particularly during the 'Overture'
( Clear Orf....Carl Orff!!!).....was alarmingly loud and lent nothing to the occasion...except I noticed Steve Guinan wincing with every blast !.

Perhaps it was an 'OMEN' of what was to follow !!.....BUT it can be tolerated

I might be wrong, but I was sure I heard the announcer mention a company name everytime he read out the score last night, so maybe it's part of a sponsorship deal in the same way that Huntroyd Nurseries sponsored the extra time announcements some time ago.

What me worry, Yonmon?...well, yes, slightly, but hopefully only for a little while! :)

Re: New Stadium Announcer

I remember a few seasons ago at Stockport, they had a poor PA system, 'How we all took the mick'.
The thing is ours now is no better.
While i am on the subject, How embarrassing as a 'Stanley Fan' is it to have to listen to Carmina Burana played at such a high level, through such poor system?????. "Tinpot"
Away fans must Pi** themselves.

yonmon 19-08-2009 14:25

Re: New Stadium Announcer

'How embarrassing as a 'Stanley Fan' is it to have to listen to Carmina Burana '.....

William you ARE being 'picky' again !......This 'opus by Orff' is meant to inculcate all the emotions of impending excitement and cerebral titillation in the listener...surely you felt and shared the throb of the collective heartbeat of the Ultras...and Cashy...and Wyn...and even Sam.F.!...as this stimulating Choral masterpiece flooded around you !....
It stirred me, I can tell you !!.....Had to go to the Loo !!.....TWICE !!!.

Why, Even Coley had a faraway look in his eyes as he nonchalantly strolled by to the dugout..giving a little skip now and then in time to the wild and fascinating Rhythms so eloquently composed and scored by Herr Orff !!.

So do try to see the reasoning behind our NEW Stadium announcers logic in choosing this particular piece of Cr. er.Music ....He is after all doing his best..thinking about us all....and is probably good to his Mother as well...SO THERE !!
