Don't know how many their are on this forum but I will try anyway.

During our immense run from Non League into the Football League under Coleman, the fans of Accrington Stanley turned out in healthy numbers. I have an article I will scan in from Unibond days that has Coleman saying "imagine the crowds if we ever got to the conference" (We had just had 2468 v Farsley)

Unfortunately, now because of various issues from losing games, to getting wet on the Clayton End to fall outs with ex Chairmen etc etc. we are down to the bare bones.

I would urge nay plead, the once die hards to just remember that many of Stanley's financial woes stem from the fact that some supporters have withdrawn their investment by not attending. Effectively, not paying your £13 to attend home games got us in this mess.

Now, I saw many old faces at Illyas's house. Saw some more stay aways at the fans forum. Not floating fans but keen as mustard regulars during the glory days. They have stopped going but they obviously care... So...please , please

Please, spare the odd Saturday down at your local club.... Your £13 is really important to the future of our club. Clubs have already said "Why should we contribute to save Stanley when the people of Accrington don't" & they are correct.

Come on Stanley fans. We should use this appeal to galvanise the support & spread the word that following Accrington Stanley is unique.

You/We really will miss it if its gone.............:(

Good post, WM. As someone who was around Accy in 62/63/64, believe me, he's right. Many stay aways DID miss it and bitterly regretted the fact that they now had no football league club in the town. Don't let it happen again!

Unfortunately they always seem to find an excuse not to come. "I'm not going up Stanley till they are in the League", they get in the league then it's "I'm not going up Stanley and getting wet, I'll wait till they get a roof", they get a roof then its "I'm not going up Stanley as long as Eric Whalley is in charge", Eric goes then it's "I'm not going up Stanley until Coleman and Bell have gone". For some of us it's just not that simple. I’d love to come; and although I endorse every element of our Willies post it’s just not possible to come over at the moment and probably won’t be for another season. But I will use the SOS site and make a donation in Lou of my gate fee for tonight and the rest of the home games for the next eight weeks.

Don't think this is really the time to be 'getting at the public of Accrington'. I thought we'd left those days behind. Willie Miller has posted a heartfelt plea without, I must add, appearing to blame anyone. The club needs the town behind them, or at least as many of them that are prepared to show an interest. Would have thought that thanks and encouragement to those who are rallying round would be a better way to entice the doubters into action and convince them that ASFC is worth supporting

One doesn't expect miracles from elected representatives in these days of recession and fiscal constrictions, but some sincere and tangible recognition of t'Stanley's emergency,...plus a delving into the depths of the pockets of the Burghers of Accrington , would seem the first thing they would want to do for the biggest 'Name' in the Borough!!.

I also think that any help must be of the persons/organisations own volition........though a gentle bit of canvassing doesn't hurt......I think we should be aware that 'Charity Fatigue' is very real, and can hinder what is a genuine, heartfelt campaign.
I'm sure you know what I mean by 'Charity Fatigue'......it is a situation when everywhere you turn, there are folk begging for money for a particular cause.

The campaign to raise money needs to be gentle enough not to alienate people, but robust enough to get the money in, and make people feel that they have helped in whatever way they can.

It might help for those who donate money to have their donation recognised........maybe the Observer or the Telegraph would donate some column inches to a list of benefactors.......It would not be necessary to list the amount of the donation....and this would only work for those who donated money and left their details.

Cheers Jeff; it wasn't an issue for me, just wanted to say that it can be hard when you want to do something but can't. Let's hope that Accrington and Burnley come out in force; Ideal time for new bloody to see whats going on and what their missing on a Saturday afternoon.

unfortunately mate all clubs have people like this. What they really mean is "Im not going becauae I want to wear a Man Utd Top and sit in the pub watching sky and bragging to my mates how good I am" LOL!

I post on a Rovers' forum and many of the members share the sentiment of "if town won't support them, why should we help?", something my dad shares a similar view of (he's a Dingle so it's expected). For me, it's about the fans that go - I would be gutted for Stanley fans, as I would be of any other team.

Hopefully there'll be a collection box on Saturday at Ewood. All kudos to the Dingles as well for their efforts. I just wish my club would do the same. I'll be visiting the Crown Ground for the first time in my life on Friday evening with my little brother. It's only £13 - but every little helps.
