On the fishy site:

Club Statement
Tuesday 3rd Nov 2009
http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/ball.gifhttp://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/line.gif
HMRC
ASFC is delighted to announce that the full obligation to HMRC has been paid.

Accrington Stanley Football Club announces a positive change in governance and management at the club, and the successful payment of its obligations to HMRC of £308,000

ASFC is also pleased to announce a new board of directors comprising of Ilyas Khan as Non-Executive Chairman, Peter Marsden as President, and David O Neill as Managing Director and Head of Operations. Both Rob Heys (Chief Executive Officer) and John Coleman (Team Manager) will continue to report to David O’Neill.

Commenting on the changes, David O’Neill said “I am very pleased that the new board has come together, and that the future of Accrington Stanley Football Club is assured. The past few months have been challenging, but the positive changes effected on the field, and in the day to day management of the club can now be supported by a stronger financial backing and a board with the requisite experience and strength to move forward. I would like to thank the club’s many well wishers, and also HMRC and the PFA and the Football League for their support during these critical times. Accrington Stanley deserves to be a full part of the football world in Great Britain, and that is now assured”

Ilyas Khan and Peter Marsden issued a joint statement. They said “We believe that the town, the community and the supporters should now link arms with the team and the management to forge a stronger and vibrant partnership that will be a credit to this wonderful wonderful Football Club. Whilst there have been clear differences of opinion between David and ourselves, these are not only resolved, but put behind us. The three new directors will concentrate on their areas of expertise, and jointly, bring their collective endeavours to actions that are exclusively in the best interests of the club. This includes David O’Neill who will continue in working as he has done for the past year or so in so many areas that often remain un-noticed.”

ASFC is also delighted to invite all directors who have stepped down, to become Vice Presidents. Their contribution to the club is gratefully acknowledged.

Accrington Stanley Football Club looks forward to inviting all supporters and family members to the club this Saturday where John Coleman and his team will continue to build on their wonderful efforts this season”

What great news. I'm quite overwhelmed. We came so very close to losing our beloved club and to know - for sure - that it is truly OK... well... :D

I'm a little disappointed that O'Neill is still around. Of course he was General Manager for a while before his time as The Great Pretender; but this was under Whalley rule... However, I am delighted by the sign of compromise between the parties. Hopefully O'Neill is working under some sort of probation until Messrs Khan & Marsden are ready to search for an appropriate filler of the role.

Thank you Ilyas. Thank you Peter M. Thank you Peter S. Thank you all.

This is a happy day.

Re: The Stanley Revolution!!!

FANtastic

as far as O'Neil is concerned he can now fade into the background and continue with what appeared to be good work behind the scenes until this whole dreadful fiasco reared its ugly head. The steering of the good ship Stanley is now in safer hands and we can all take a step back, breathe a sigh of relief and let the suits do their work.

Lets all get back to linking arms again and being the loudest and proudest little club in the Football League.

We collectively owe a debt of gratitude to Mr Khan and Mr Marsden for their continued diligence and financial aid. This moment will not be forgotten by the people of Accrington for generations.

Just as I criticised him for his past actions which I disagreed with, so I must thank him for playing his part.

Also, be aware that the club paid approx £52,000 of that debt today. I paid the rest. this means its not ALL me.

I finish by thanking you all, and by repeating my hope that we get such a bumper crowd on saturday that the cheers and the stanley roar are heard back in the high courts in London !!

Very true, and the description of the balance sheet having a 'slight imbalance' was almost laughable - were it not concerning £600k+ of further debt! BUT - I'm going to enjoy today and tonight, not going to let DO'N's silly comments get in the way of that.

Re: The Stanley Revolution!!!

Up until 6pm this evening, I knew nothing of this, but when I was driving home and listening to Radio Lancs and it said the bill had been paid, I felt nothing but relief that our famous little club had been saved from oblivion yet again. OK so we have all had a pop at Dave O'Niell and Rob Heys, but if Ilyas and Peter have talked to them and asked them to stay on, then maybe we should all agree to give them our support. Also, after listening to the interview with D O'N, I personally thought he sounded like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. As he said, he never really wanted to be chairman of the club, but it was gifted to him by EW (The real villain of the piece I believe). If the club still owe him, then maybe we should send the money as washers, like he implied the club stewards were worth paying in. Things will take time to settle down, but lets get behind the club starting this Saturday and cheer the lads on to victory to bigger and better things. As others have said, thank you to all persons (be they individuals or teams or firms) who have assisted in saving this club.

BTW Mel and Lancsdave, can I pop back in to the shop to have an addition to my T-shirt - I HELPED save our Accrington Stanley.

Hallelujah.....Hallelujah....

I cannot express or put into words the immense sense of relief that has flooded through me since I heard this joyous news....We are forever in debt.... to Messrs Khan & Marsden who have steered the good ship Stanley to safer waters....

Now we have to build on this and all pull together to move the club towards a brighter and more financially stable future. To use a (horse) racing analogy....I feel we've just clambered over the first ( seemingly at times unsurmountable ) hurdle and there's probably more tests the club are yet to face...But with todays news, I'll sleep easier knowing the club has the right people at the helm to meet the challenge.....

Let's get behind the club, putting all recent problems behind us and start by packing out the ground on Saturday...Onwards and upwards towards brighter times.....:D

Mr Khan and Mr Marsden...many thanks for your untiring endeavour and commitment to the cause.

And to all others who have contributed to the fundraising, however large or small ...thanks....you've all chipped in to help keep the legend alive....

ACCRINGTON STANLEY.....The club that wouldn't die !!!!!:D

You never know the club shop may actually start getting new merchandise, hopefully with a 'Made In Accrington' label on it :)

Re: The Stanley Revolution!!!

I thought Ilyas was very impressive on the radio tonight. He'll be in charge of governance and the financial side of the Club. So, at last, he have full access to the books and he promised the financial security and transparency that we've wanted for so long. Even talked of money for Coley to buy players, though more next season than this :)

It may be a long time before my anger at David O'Neill subsides and it may be a while before I listen to Rob Heys on the radio and not be cynical, but in Ilyas I trust. If the current setup of the Club is good enough for him, it's good enough for me :D

On to the football and a very vocal show of support for Ilyas and Peter on Saturday!

We actually sold one of the t-shirts today, and we have an order for one from some oddball fan in New Zealand :D

I expect we will probably sell a dozen or so, and as we don't own the licencing rights to Peter & Illyas ( wonder if they need an agent :) ), then we thought it fair not to profit from these. As a result any profit we do make from them will be going to the Royal British Legion because of Ilyas's comments in a different thread regarding the Accrington Pals, and of course the time of the year.
