Our club has been saved....

Lets get the party started (weather permitting!!!!)

Just a quick empassioned plea for tommorrow. Stanley Ultras will lead the singing as always on the terrace tomorrow with songs old & new, traditional & continental.

Now I know that not everyone likes a sing & a dance at the football but I am just requesting that, if possible, just for 90 minutes, that we all SHOW how much we care that we are still in business.

Even if its just enthusiastic body language or the odd clap in time with the beat it all helps. Leave your inhibitions with the missus, have an extra pint (or twenty Macca!) & lets make it an afternoon to remember.

See you all in the Crown.

:) :) :)

Dunno T.M. the relief is sure great, but my concern is well diminished, a little club could not be in any worse crap than it was, n have great faith in I.K. n P.M. to steer em right.:)

TM - what are you concerned about ? Please share, and I hope I can help. At least you might help me see something I am missing !!

I am concerned, but not about the survival of our club. However, as i have stated before, i see ASFC as a true community club, and as such your concerns ought to be my concerns. I will almost certainly make mistakes, but if you (and others) can help by keeping me very firmly grounded, then I hope the mistakes can be diminished.

so, if there is something specific, please please say so. PM me if you wish, or email me on [email protected] (and that email is available to all fans and supporters).

While I would never presume to speak for our resident simian, I, too, have some concerns regarding the long-term viability of our club.

Over the last few months, many references have been made to rather sizeable outstanding debts (apart from the tax bill) and we are all too keenly aware of the gate figures. Are any of these other creditors in a position to hinder the operation of the club? Will we be able to service this debt without negatively impacting the product on the pitch? What additional revenue streams are being explored to make up for the shortfall at the gate? Will the previously mentioned ground improvements be implemented?

think the question is - Will other creditors be allowed to hinder the operation? obvious to me they can.:) wouldn't presume to answer fer Mr Khan, but i doubt it.

Re: Our club has been saved....

Expat - one of your mistakes was surely getting amongst the Ultras for the D.I.S.C.O -unless you have already signed over your life insurance to the club!!!!!

I think the main concerns of the fans are that, whilst the immediate threat has been removed, we do still have debts. Because the club has so much to do in order to become a real threat at this level it is hard to see how that can physically be done whilst still trying to pay off debts. The simplest form of this is the PFA debt. We know that it will have to be paid, but will it be paid via the means we originally intended (the next FL payment)? If this is so then we are going to be under the transfer embargo until that payment is due - and this will take us past January. If the intention is to pay it via other means then can that be done sooner rather than later in order to get the goalkeeper cover in?

There are many hurdles to cross in the short term but I sincerely believe that we can double attendances within a few months - and hopefully the country emerging from economic gloom next year will further impact the rise.

I look forward to the days when we can see the home end well and truly packed out again.

I know we've still got considerable debts to pay off and, as Saturday's gate proved, we've got a mountain to climb in terms of attracting the local public, but I'm more optimistic about Stanley's prospects than I've ever been in the last 49 years. Because, at long last, instead of flying by the seat of our pants, making it up as we go along, we've got people at the top who will plan for the future longterm in a realistic, yet ambitious way. Our future is not only secure, but very rosy indeed! :)

Re: Our club has been saved....

As long as the club grows its community roots their wont be a problem. We still have one of the lowest entrance fees in the league and very cheap season tickets. Sometimes Blackburn and Wigan can be cheaper when the do the 10 pound a game offer, but on the whole we offer good value. I understand the psychology which argues more than 10 pounds puts off a decent percentage of people who wont pay more than 10 pounds for non top flight football. But can we afford £10 entry? I do think there is a case to be made for the bradford city 'sell aload of season tickets and they will be cheap'. Such a scheme could both mobilise the current fans and town to get behind the club.

expatriate 09-11-2009 09:40

Re: Our club has been saved....

i have been watching this very interesting thread. the points being raised are ones that actually confront many teams, and many businesses. The answers are not hard to identify, but they are hard to implement. The one thing I can absolutely guarantee is that decisions which will be made whilst I am involved, will be made with the interest of the club at heart, and not the interest of any one person or group of people. I also guarantee an open door to the community and the club. I have a view that it will take a number of years of consistent and concerted effort before we can win the hearts and minds of the community to the point this translates into people in the ground - but its an eminently achievable target.

One last thing, for now, I also happen to think that the onus of responsibility is on the club to attract fans, and not to complain if they choose not to turn up. In this day and age its hard to compete for that valuable two hours, but not at all impossible. Our club needs the community behind it, and we will do what it takes to ensure that we mend our ways.

Keep the good ideas and also your questions, coming along.

TM - i applaud your intent and your rationale in raising the issues. We might be safe now, and i happen to believe we are safe for a long time, but I also know that we have to do a lot of hard work.

One point on my experience with the Ultras. I loved every second of it, even when the more boisterous started that mad DISCO chant that leads to the shoving and pushing. I might not be as young as the kids in that group, but I know that there was a protective circle around me. a couple of strong young arms made sure i did not fall down !

see my separate thread on that subject

Couldn't agree more!

The reputation of the Club was damaged enormously during the last few weeks of the SOS Appeal and it will take more than cheaper tickets to get people back to the Crown Ground. Ilyas has to be the one being the public face of the Club and be very pro-active in putting forward a positive message ... it can't be Rob Heys/David O'Neill, at least for now, because of the mistrust that they generated. Plus, the players have to be used more in the Community so again we can move away from the image that we unfortunately generated up to last week.

It will be a slow rebuilding process, but we now have a more united Club than I can remember for many a year!

David O'Neill and Rob Heys will have to prove their worth to the future of Accy Stanley because a lot of people aren't convinced they should still be there.

Agreed 100%.

I dont doubt RH and his commitment just the fact he told lie after lie when he was the so called Chief Executive.

Doug 09-11-2009 13:05

Re: Our club has been saved....

First and foremost there has to be a compact between the fans, supporters and the club’s board; the past couple of months have been traumatic for all sides but continuing to point fingers at Rob Hay’s and David O’Neil will only serve to keep those divisions alive. Healing between the different sides and opinions must take precedence if the “Club” is to move on. Put the past behind us.

Mr. Khan, Mr. O’Neil and Rob need to be speaking from the same team sheet from now on, they have to be seen as one unit moving the club forward; working together. This is easier than most of us would think; after all they appear to be doing it already; so why can’t we.

Facilities are ****e; there’s no winter cover behind the stands so it will be less attractive for families; no matter how good the football, if your hungry and ****ed wet at half time your not going to enjoy it if your dragging a couple of moaning cold kids round to the burger van in the driving rain.

Before the game, in-between and after the final whistle it’s dead as a fart. Get some family entertainment organised; post match you could have the Pipe Band or the local Drumming groups, half time the Cheer leaders (or maybe not) or local talent singing or just plain Club information being delivered over the tannoy by one of the girls with a clear pleasant voice….Just make it entertaining/fun/interesting for families/community.

The Crown could become a centre point for local talent to make their mark, at the same time local charities or interest groups could have a marquee behind the stands providing a little distraction between play.

It’s all been said before: better bogs (Toilets that people would be comfortable walking into), food outlets (Christ; walk into Lancaster on any Saturday afternoon and you will find food from all over the world) Make it interesting, get some Asian food pitches going, and what about Polish or Chinese…it won’t cost the club anything but everyone will benefit.

One last time….a working group made up of supporters, the board, community (all cultures) business and council. Meeting, Talking, Acting.

Thanks Ilyas. I'll post it on here rather than emailing you, so that everyone can share in the information.

Apart from some of the points raised by other posters, I'm still concerned regarding some of the points raised on this thread:
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f...now-50304.html

I am very relieved and grateful for the club being saved, but I'm concerned that the relief will be short lived. I'm very much of the view that significant changes are required to turn the club around and when I read of the changes 'at the top', I was really encouraged and optimistic regarding a new start and fresh direction.

However, after reading that you didn't expect to be Chairman very long and that both you and Peter Marsden could be removed by the majority shareholder, I am left wondering what has really changed. I think the club (to use a collective term) has done some serious damage in terms of public relations and there has been a significant reduction of faith in their ability to turn things around.

I know that there are no guarantees, but who's to say that in a few months time, we won't be here again and worrying about the survival of the club?

Tin Monkey 09-11-2009 13:26

Re: Our club has been saved....

I was trying to edit my message, but it won't allow me to.

I wanted to add that David O' Neil may claim to not like speaking to the media, but he fends off questions like a seasoned politician. I heard him speaking on the radio last week after the club had been saved and he failed to give a straight answer to any question posed.
When he was asked if he was going to do anything to repair the damage done to the relationship with the fanbase over the last 8 weeks, he replied by saying something along the lines of, 'well you can't please everyone all the time', as though it was the whinging fans' fault and he was an innocent party.
