We've just had a shot cleared off the line, and Bavs has made a great save too. Sounds like this is gonna be a close one, but then we knew that anyway didn't we!!!

I have no idea either but I'll ask Dan this week when I see him.

I know it's just my perception, but it seems to me this season when we are in the lead the ref always calls for an extended amount of extra time but when we are trailing it gets cut short -- only a minute in the first half today.

Well thats two shots cleared off the line now. Its starting to like one of those days!!!

Oh well ......

All over them in the second half too, going off the BBC text and stats. Roll on Bradford.

On Stanley On ....

Re: Daggers Match Thread

We need to be able to pass the ball, we were all over them with hit 'n' hopes. Definite penalty on Edwards not given however we should've scored at least 3.

just got in from game ryan should never have come off for that piece off crap .we were run then in to the ground down that side . ref crap.

Re: Daggers Match Thread

Yes slightly disappointing, a draw would have been a fairer result,Miles needs to improve on his corner kicks, but was unfortunate in the first with a good shot. Grant could have scored but hey, we cant win every home game. Roberts was his usual entertaining self and made a good save in the second half

shakermaker 14-11-2009 16:47

Re: Daggers Match Thread

Stanley's back line was superb today, I thought. The midfield was not. Up front we were unlucky, with two cleared off the line and one shot subjected to a magnificent save from Tony Roberts. On another day it could've been a very different result. Hard luck Reds.

You're right Grimps. Ryan was always making things happen down the right, but Mconville just lumped the ball forward at every opportunity - a big disappointment. I was hoping for a substitution or two but Miles wasn't producing much and his corners were poor today, unlike the two delivered at pace by Dagenham which resulted in their goal, and he should have been hauled off earlier for King. Plenty of effort from the lads but not much craft, and our full backs couldn't pass the ball for toffee.
Dagenham defended very well, though.

very disappointing and very poor game from both sides.

how they are top of the table i have no idea.

Team looked very tired today in my opinion.

Miles again, NOT good enough. Hes just not fit if u ask me and Gary King was brought on way to late.

Roll on next saturday, i NEED to forget that game.

Re: Daggers Match Thread

It was a disappointing result, credit to Daggers they hit well on the break with numbers going forward something we do struggle to cope with, I think a point overall would have been a fair result.

Phil's penalty appeal sorry folks I was right in line with it and he took a tumble had he kept on his feet he could have lobbed Roberts, that is something that as been eating away at me all season we as a Team do seem to go down easy sometimes with minimal contact?

Maybe the number of games played and use of minimal players in the squad is having an effect on overall fitness?

But the upshot is we did more than enough to have got something from the game and on another day we would have got that but that's footy for you:)

football19 14-11-2009 17:46

Re: Daggers Match Thread

you could see today why they are top of the league and dont conceed many goals, they worked there socks off and won the midfield battle,As soon as they lost posession they quickly got goal side and made it difficult to break them down. The weather and pitch conditions favoured there style of football, but acci to there credit kept plugging away.A draw would have been a fair result and grant missed a sitter in the second half.

maccawozzagod 14-11-2009 17:58

Re: Daggers Match Thread

big difference today I thought was Stuart Thurgood (the baldy no 8) he did his job well in breaking up and holding. Whenever the ball needed clearing it was either with his head (and to a player) or a big clever lump down the flanks to give Nurse and Benson something to chase.

I didn't think they were any fitter than us but they were stronger. They seemed better at holding off challenges and managed to get a toe poke to every loose ball.

Miles didnt look particularly fit but the heavy pitch didn't suit him at all. He likes to drag the ball about a lot and it kept sticking under his feet. Symes worked hard but got very little reward whilst Bobby Grant just wasn't strong enough at all. Bavs made one very good (camera) save in the first half and Roberts made one in the second half.

Poor game overall and they will be made up to have got the points after that performance. The goal they scored was ridiculous to concede but the penalty claim by Edwards would have been more ridiculous had the ref given it.

Final point? I need to stop making a habit of going sober to the football - its not half as much fun.

thats exactly how i saw it, decent side, but we deserved a draw, lot of water on pitch in a few areas didn't help either, was disapointed when 50/50 draw was made, none of us had tickets, cos usual person had come around before kick-off, we were told by others, quite a few landed on clayton end, just before kick-off, so must assume a good few quid revenue lost yon.:(

we need 3 players in asap keeper def and fast winger on left side .

Re: Daggers Match Thread

Thought we deserved a point from that.

Can I just say top marks to Tony Roberts who as usual had a great craic with the Clayton End and proved what a good sport he is...

...and a pretty handy keeper, too. :(

Re: Daggers Match Thread

Very disappointing result,as others have said. I said it on Tuesday and I'll say it again today. Is it just me....or for some reason are Stanley playing the long ball game more lately????

Admittedly the playing surface was hardly one for playing a strict "on the deck" passing game, but there again with a gale blowing why did we seem to resort to humping the high ball forward from the back second half ???

I'm not Miles' biggest fan, I'd say other than the one shot in the first half....totally inneffectual...At times he looks like he could play at a higher level, at others he seems totally un-interested..He was about as much use today as an ashtray on a motorbike !!! Sad to say it, but there was even a pretty audible cheer when his number went up to be subbed which summed his performance up.

Like has already been said earlier on the thread, I too can't understand taking Ryan off and bringing McConville on. Easy to tell Ryan was disappointed at being subbed by the way he trudged off. He was one player who looked like he could make something happen, but for me, replacing him with McConville was a bad move. :(

Too many times the lad just played "hit and hope" long punts forward without even looking up, I know he's a young lad...but to me a bit lightweight and easily forced off the ball and somebody needs to put an arm around him, have a word in his shell and tell the lad to think a little more where he's going to put the pass or play the ball.

Maybe the heavy pitch played it's part, that said wasn't Coley boasting in the L.E.T. not long back that we were the fittest or one of the fittest in League 2 ??? It may be me, but the last couple of games seem like we seem to be resorting to the long ball game, playing more and more hit and hope tactics. A bit like they've run out of ideas.:o

On our day, when we get the ball down and start passing it around, we can really open teams up....ala the second half against Cheltenham??

Also hope that the transfer embargo is lifted some time soon as it'll probably give Coley the chance to freshen things up with a new face or two and we all know we need Goalkeeping cover. I thought for a horrible few moments today that Dunbavin had been seriously injured by that stupid tackle by Benson.

cashman 14-11-2009 21:32

Re: Daggers Match Thread

cover needed urgent fer Dunbavin as i have said before, lucky he recovered today n last week in cup, we can't keep getting away wi it. that loan must be repaid ASAP. did not begrudge him M.O.M. ive give him enough stick meself in past, even started kicking ball pretty straight, :D was a couple of young Leeds fans on today, spying on the creme.

You see keepers talking to the crowd when the ball's up the other end. But Tony Roberts was talking to the Clayton End when the ball was in he's half, which is unusual.

He's also a lot better keeper than he looks. If that makes sense.

no it wasnt a penalty - but there was one in the first half for Dagenham that I'd probably have given if I was a ref. Kempson and Dunbavin both went for the ball, both missed and both felled Benson, Dunbavin then 'won' the loose ball.
